Hey there, @paffeldt. Thanks for providing an update.
We're aware that the task isn't being shown on the Dashboard, and our Engineering Team is hard at work to resolve the issue. The good news is that you can still export the file without using the task. Follow these quick steps:
That's it! Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to be of assistance. Have a great weekend!
Hi, Devlkat.
You should be able to see the Task List in the Dashboard.
As an initial troubleshooting step, try logging into your QBO account using a different or a private browser.
There are times that the browser is full of frequently accessed page resources, thus causing some unusual responses. To use a private browser, here's how:
Once logged in, go back to the Dashboard to double-check. If it shows, return to your default browser and perform a clear cache. However, if you're still unable to locate the Task feature,
you can still export the file without using this option. See the steps below:
I'm also adding these articles to learn more about these processes:
That should do the trick. Keep me posted on how everything goes in the comment section. I'll be here if you need anything else. Take care always.

I think they are actually trying to grab a copy of the file to pull INTO desktop from Online
Yes, Parkway,
I am switching from Online to Desktop and I have been following the procedure provided by QB, but it isn't showing up. This whole process has been a stretching experience altogether. I should be well versed in what not to do for anyone in the future. Ha! Thanks for your help clarifying.

Thank you everyone, we were able to get everything downloaded. There was nothing that popped up as we opened up QB, but with the help of a very smart QB helper, we got it completed.
Where did you find the task or to do item once exported and downloaded?
You'll find the to do lists on your dashboard, natripps.
Once imported in QuickBooks, it will be ready and added in your dashboard. Just click Dashboard on the left pane.
The dashboard displays the company's overview, to-do-lists, and graphs of business update.
Check this article to learn more: An introduction to the home dashboard.
If you can't see your data in the Dashboard, go back to the email to complete your setup. The migration will automatically apply.
You can run reports to compare data in QB Online and QB Desktop.
If you got additional concerns, don't hesitate to leave a reply.
there is no answer, here, we have the same problem and there is no task, there is no link to download. support has a 2 hour hold , and the gear icon from Internet Explore ( unsupported browser) does not allow you to use it anymore. you would think the supported browsers would allow you to export back to QBDT , unless the real motive is to not let you convert back.
how exactly did you find it? we have the same problem
Thank you for joining the thread, @MaggyMae.
This is not what I want to happen to anyone when reaching out to our support. As I know this important for you to switch back to the desktop version and the gear icon keeps disappearing, I’m happy to get you back on track. Our engineers are fully aware of this issue and are working hard on a resolution. At this time, there is a workaround for you to export data from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks desktop.
Here’s how:
Open up a new web-browser in Internet Explorer and copy this link into the URL:
http://qbo.intuit.com/app/exportqbodatatoqbdt
If you click on the link, it won’t pull anything up, I recommend Copying and Pasting.

OK, I got the email saying my data is ready and to "...Click the task or to do item called "Download the company file created on 02/15/2020". I can't locate either the task or to-do item on my dashboard. I've searched and tried all of the other posts for the last 11/2 hours to try their solutions to no avail. I'm now 6 hours into what should have been an easy transition from Online to Desktop. I now know more about IE versions, Edge security settings etc than I ever wanted to know. And, I'm almost out of bourbon as well. Can someone tell me where the "... task or to do item called "Download the company file created on 02/15/2020" might reside in QB online?
Let me help you with this, @Devlkat.
If you can't still find your downloaded file, I suggest going through the export process again and make sure to take note the file location.
I also suggest reaching out to our customer support so they can help you in locating your file. Here's how:
If you have any other questions please let me know. I'm always glad to help any way I can.
No "destination location" question was asked of me during the my development of the request for a copy of my business data. Here's the full text of the email I received from "Intuit E-Commerce Service":
"Congratulations! Your QuickBooks Online Plus data for {Company Name} is ready to be downloaded.
Best regards,
The QuickBooks Online Plus Team"
Within the QB Online system I cannot locate the "Task" or "To-Do" section to be able to click on the company file task sent to me by the QB Online Plus Team. Can someone who knows where this feature resides in QB Online offer some assistance?
Hi, Devlkat.
You should be able to see the Task List in the Dashboard.
As an initial troubleshooting step, try logging into your QBO account using a different or a private browser.
There are times that the browser is full of frequently accessed page resources, thus causing some unusual responses. To use a private browser, here's how:
Once logged in, go back to the Dashboard to double-check. If it shows, return to your default browser and perform a clear cache. However, if you're still unable to locate the Task feature,
you can still export the file without using this option. See the steps below:

Nope, sorry. Don't see "To-Do" list in private mode or after clearing browser cache. And, I don't see the options you note in #2 of your instructions. When I click on "export data" I get the attached screen. I don't want to export from QB online / import to QB Desktop via Excel spreadsheets. I want to import to QB Desktop the transaction-level data that QB downloaded for me from my online account and said they sent to me. I've now got almost 12 hours invested in what should be a simple point & click process, getting very frustrated with QB products & support at the moment.
Hello there, Devlkat.
I know the urgency in transferring your data file to QuickBooks Desktop so you can start managing your company through it.
To acquire the transaction-level data that QuickBooks downloaded, I'd recommend contacting our QuickBooks Online Support Team. They can help to locate your file and walk you through in importing it to QuickBooks Desktop.
To learn more about moving your online data to QuickBooks Desktop, kindly refer to this article for the detailed information: Export and convert your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop. It provides a series of steps to successfully convert your data file.
Please let me know if you have other concerns. I'm just around to help.
The gear icon still disappears when I click on it. The data export link comes up as page not found.
Hi there, @Sgardner.
Thank you for reaching out to the Community. I'd be glad to provide info on exporting your data.
After reviewing this thread, since the steps provided by my colleagues weren't successful, let's try logging in to your account through Internet Explorer and then deleting the URL and copying and pasting it.
Here's how:
Let me know if the steps above allow you to open up the export link. If you have any more questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to comment below. Happy Friday!
Thank you everyone, for your comments and helps. We are way past this point and are actually working smoothly in QB Desktop now. Thanks Again!!!
Still unable to get my company data. I have tried numerous times from numerous computers. Is it possible to get the data sent to me? I am wasting money trying to get everything transferred so I can switch. This is not even for my primary job. I really don't have time to go home after work and manually enter everything while also running my household that now includes supervising virtual learning.
