Welcome to the Community forum, @kaadcock.

The prompt you're getting comes up when an existing invoice is attempted to change. It means if you tried to make some changes on the invoice but at the end, the invoice wasn't changed. It will still alert you if you'd want to leave the invoice without saving.

If I merely open an invoice and make no changes whatsoever, and click the "receive payment" button, I am prompted to save (or not) before leaving.  This is a new and unwelcome feature.  OF COURSE I know that if I make changes, the prompt is appropriate.

Hello there, @kaadcock.

Allow me to share some information about the prompted message when editing transactions in QuickBooks Online.

QuickBooks ensures that when you edit your transaction, you will receive a prompt message. This is set to be a reminder that will help you identify every time you make changes to your transactions.

If you need tips in the future, visit our QuickBooks Help Articles site.

Please get back to me if you have additional questions. I'm more than happy to answer it for you. Have a great day!

I too am having the same issue. No modifications whatsoever on the invoices yet prompting to save changes - this is not how it used to work.

We lock changes for users on invoices issued on prior months but our team are still able to preview and print said invoices before this change. Now, it's prompting them for a password just to print and preview because Quickbooks assumes a change has been made, when there is none.

It applies on all invoices, old or new, asking to save changes when no changes have been made, or no changes have been attempted to be made.

I believe this is a bug that needs to be resolved. Previous response of "It means if you tried to make some changes on the invoice but at the end, the invoice wasn't changed. It will still alert you if you'd want to leave the invoice without saving." is not the answer as opening an invoice to view is by no means trying to make any changes.

Please advise on any immediate resolution. Thanks.

This seems to have gotten fixed today. Hopefully it stays that way.

Thanks!

Thanks for joining the thread, @WestfieldAV_Com.

Once you create or edit an invoice, you'll get a prompt "Do you want to leave without saving?". This is one of the basic features in QuickBooks that will help you save changes in case you've accidentally closed the window.

If you haven't made any alterations but still getting this prompt, run some basic troubleshooting steps to address the issue. Sometimes too much cache build-up in your browser can cause unexpected behavior with the product.

To start, open your account in a private window. This way, we can isolate the problem and fix it. Simply press the following shortcut keys to open this mode:

  • Ctrl + Shift + N (Google Chrome).
  • Ctrl + Shift + P (Firefox).
  • Control + Option + P (Safari).

If you're able to exit the invoice window without getting a prompt, go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. If you're still getting the same result, try using a different supported browser. This could be a temporary issue with QuickBooks and the current browser that you use.

I'm also including our Help articles for related references in managing your account and transactions.

ReymondO Thank You! The incognito mode (Chrome) window didn't help so I then cleared by browser cache/history/etc and voila! It was annoying because even if I opened an invoice to look at something, when I tried to close it (NO CHANGES ETC) it would prompt me to save it. Anyway - FIXED... Thank You! WAV
