Tags - nothing showing in my reports

HI There,

 

My transactions are showing in a specific tag as 90 transactions but when I run a report there is no data.

I'm in a  panic because I was using this to show the board some internal reporting for income and expenses. 

The same reports that I pulled yesterday are not showing today see images attached -yesterday they ran a proper report - today it says no information contained herein. HELP :-)

Hi there, @CHMM.

 

I'd be happy to help you run a Profit and Loss report with the tags in QuickBooks Online.

 

You can customize the Profit and Loss report and choose the Tag name. I can show you how to do that.

 

In this example, I'm naming my Tag group as "Padgett." Marhien and Stephen are the tag names I've used. Please refer to the steps below on how to customize the report:

 

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. Enter the Profit and Loss report in the text box.
  3. Select the Customize button.
  4. Under the Rows/Columns section, go to the Columns drop-down and select the Tag group.
  5. Check the boxes of other aspects you'd like to show in the report.
  6. Select Run report.

I've added some screenshots for your additional reference.

 

 

After running the customized report, the tag names are now showing.

After you've done customizing the report, you may also memorize it so that you can use the selections you've chosen in the future.

I can see the importance of reviewing the Profit and Loss (P&L) report to show the exact financial status of your business to the company's board members. The Tagging feature, lets you get deeper insights as to how your business is doing. With this, you can perform some troubleshooting steps to isolate this unusual behavior of the system. There are times that the browser is full of frequently accessed pages, you can first log into your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account using a private browser to isolate the issue. Here's how:

  • Press Ctrl Shift (Google Chrome)
  • Ctrl Shift (Firefox or Internet Explorer)
  • Control Option (Safari)

 

Once signed in, go to the Gear icon or Banking menu, then select Tags to pull up the P&L report for your group. Then, make sure to filter the correct date in the Report period field. If the tag transactions show in your report, return to your regular browser and clear its cache and cookies. This will remove older data that causes viewing and performance issues. If the issue persists, I'd recommend pulling your group tag reports using other supported browsers.

Unfortunately I did exactly as you suggested - opened a new browser window signed in and still the same.

I should add that I am using Google chrome which from what I was told was the best browser for QBO

I appreciate you performing the troubleshooting steps given by my colleague above and sharing the result with a screenshot.

 

Since using a private or a different browser didn't fix the issue, I highly suggest contacting our Phone Support Team. This way, they can further investigate this matter and get this resolved from there. They can also create an investigation ticket if other users experiencing the same thing.

 

To reach them, click the ? Help button at the top-right corner and select Contact Us to talk to a live agent.

Thanks so much for your feedback and help - i did exactly as you said - it wasn't that easy as the computer kept trying to offer me solutions instead of providing me with the contact us  - i finally got it and QuickBooks has no available calf back or chat until Thursday  - i assume perhaps they are closed due to elections ? 

 

Unfortunately for me the need to have those tagged report is urgent because I need t give it to the cpa for our non profit to file form 990  - nay other ideas ?

I appreciate you for getting back to us here in the Community. Let me help you run the report so you can provide the data to your CPA.

 

Let's try to open the data through the Reports section to check if the same thing happens. Here's how:

 

  1. On the left navigation bar, click Reports.
  2. Scroll down and select Transaction List by Tag Group below Sales and customers.
  3. Choose the date range.
  4. Hit Run report

The callback and chat option should be available within the support hours. Our Customer Support Team is available from 6 AM - 6 PM Pacific Time (Monday - Friday) and 6 AM - 3 PM Pacific Time (Saturday).

Thank you so much for your help, 

 

so the report the way you instructed worked - EXCEPT it just lists every transaction within that tag group. 

I need the P& L for that Tag group. because there are income and expense and then the profitability to consider. Any other ideas ?

In my version of QBO, "tags" is not an option in the Column drop down. How do I enable?

Yes, you have to turn on the tag to used and show it when you run reports. I'll show you how to do it:  

 

  1. Go to Settings and select QuickBooks Labs
  2. Look for the Tags feature and turn it on. Tap Done

 

After you've done enable the tag, you can create your tag groups. For more detailed insight about it, you may check out this article: Tag transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Hi @MarsStephanieL 

 

I tried following these same instructions for running a P&L report by tag group, but my problem is that none of my tag groups are appearing under the "columns" drop down menu. It only gives me the option to show "Ungrouped tags"

However, when I look in the "manage tags" page, I can see that I do indeed have many transactions tagged during this same time period. It's also worth noting that I don't actually have any ungrouped tags

Thanks for the screenshots, and I appreciate doing the incognito step in your end. I have news regarding the Profit and Loss by Tag Group report. 

 

Our users have reported an issue where they can't see any data when running the Profit and Loss by Tag Group report. Our engineers are working to fix this as soon as possible. 

 

I do have a couple of workarounds for you. First, you'll want to run the report directly from the Reports page instead of the "Tags" tab.

 

The issue seems to be coming from within the Tags page. Simply go to the Reports menu, then choose Profit and Loss by Tag Group under Business overview

 

Another workaround is to run a regular Profit and Loss report. You might want to compare the tagged transactions under the Tags tab and the report itself. 

 

While waiting for the fix, you can contact our support so they can add you to the list of affected users. When our engineers release an update, you'll be notified through email. Here's how: 

 

The new "Help" menu interface: 

 

  1. Click the (?) Help icon.
  2. Choose the Talk to a human option (then type it again when prompted).
  3. When asked by the bot, type "Affected by report issue. Reference number: INV-51880."
  4. Select I still need a human.
  5. Proceed with Contact us.
  6. Click Let’s talk then choose either Get a call or Start messaging

For the old "Help" menu:

 

  1. Click the Help icon.
  2. Hit the Contact Us button.
  3. Type "Affected by report issue. Reference number: INV-51880" in the What can we help you with box.
  4. Proceed with the Let's talk button.
  5. Select either Start messaging or Get a call button.

Were you able to get your report?  I also cannot run my P&L by tag or Transaction List by tag reports.  They had been customized and saved and were working last week, but cannot run them this week.

The investigation mentioned above (INV-51880) about tags that are missing on QuickBooks Online (QBO) reports is still open. In most cases being able to open the Profit and Loss or Transaction List by tags, are also unavailable. Our engineers are now working to fix this as quickly as possible.

 

For now, you can reach out to our Support Team so a representative can add your account to the list of affected users. And, automatically receive email notification of the latest updates. To reach out support, you may follow the steps laid out by jamespaul above, or open this link for the instructions.

Tags - nothing showing in my reports

I am having the same problems.  I've got plenty of transactions "tagged" however when I try to run the report "P&L by Tags" , it only gives me option to choose Ungrouped Tags.  (same problem/screen as "devinitelybk" is having).  If this is a system problem, can you please advise when it will be fixed?

I understand that you need to run a profit and loss report by tags. The same as you, I also want this to get resolved. Our team is still investigating the cause of this error, and we're unable yet to give you a specific date when this will be fixed.

 

In the meantime, you'll want to perform the workaround suggested in this thread. Run a regular Profit and Loss report, then compare the tagged transactions under the Tags tab and the report itself.

 

Also, you'll want to reach out to our Customer Support Team. Any additional info from an affected account will help our product team find a resolution. Please follow the detailed steps shared above on how to reach out to them.

Has the QB team made any progress on this? I would like to be able to customize a Tags report (filter out certain tags and change title and note) and then save the report to use each month. After I save it and reopen it all the changes I made and saved are not there - it shows all tags again.

The issue about customizing tags was recently reported and already closed. Since you're still getting unexpected behavior, let's perform some troubleshooting steps to get this fixed so you can get back to working order.

 

There are times that your browser stores frequently accessed data, thus causing websites, like QuickBooks Online (QBO), to act weirdly. Let's try logging in to your QBO account using a private or a different browser.

 

Here's how:

 

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + N on your keyboard for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox
  • Press Command + Shift + N for Safari

 

Once done, try to run the report again and click the customization button and filter the necessary details. If this works, it means that you need to clear the browser's cache so the system can start fresh. 

 

 You can also do this task on other supported, up-to-date browsers like Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, or Mozilla Firefox. Clearing it will refresh the system, and you'll be able to work with clean trash.

Hi. 

I set up the tags thinking I will be able to track expenses in more details. Sadly for some reason, my QBO do not show summary as per attached photo, neither there is no detailed tags report I can run or customise. I did all the steps that were suggested in this post and no luck. Talk to QB support lady - she couldn't solve my issue. Please help! otherwise tags are useless.

I'll want to make sure that you're able to set your tags to track your expenses in QuickBooks Online, @AnnaSroka.

 

I hear your sentiments and I appreciate the things you’ve done so far. Rest assured that I’ll make it up to you by sharing a couple of details on how to deal with your tag concern.

 

Since the tags are not working, you’ll want to consider using Class tracking. It can go into detail of your sales, expenses, or profitability of your business. You can also assign it per transaction or per line item.

 

We can start with enabling the class tracking from your Settings. I’ll show you how:

 

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Account and Settings.
  2. Click Advanced, then go to Categories section to edit.
  3. Tick the Track classes checkbox.
  4. Under Assign classes, select One to entire transaction or One to each row in transaction.
  5. Tap Save, then Done.

 

Kindly visit this article and proceed to Step 2. It includes the steps if you’ll want to turn on class tracking for Online Payroll.
