How do I create a sales order in quikbooks online?

hi there , I would suggest you to shift to zoho books as they are cheaper than this and has far more basic functions that QBO is unable to give for last 3-4 years.

I suggest you look at other software's like ERP-Horizon as they have all the features people are looking for with the same cost.

It is absolutely inconceivable that as fundamental a function as ENTERING A SALES ORDER is not available to Quickbooks Online Users.  WTF!!!???  An estimate is not the same thing as a sales order.  When you receive a purchase order, you don't respond by giving the customer an ESTIMATE.  Nor do you give them an INVOICE.  The sales order is the step in between the estimate and the invoice, like you car is in between your home and your office.  FIGURE THIS OUT.  I am embarrassed for you, and for myself for paying for this garbage.  

Sales orders are essential.  Anyone knows sales are different from invoicing.

The problem and question DO NOT get solved at all. Estimate, Sales Order, and Invoice are different activities. "Sales Order" is a very very basic and essential feature for accounting. I cannot believe QB doesn't have this function. Please add this feature AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

For the meantime, you can create an Estimate as a replacement. An estimate is a non-posting transaction that can be turned into an invoice at a later time. When the customer gets the invoice, this can act as the sales order.

I'm looking at switching from desktop to online and definitely needs sales orders. Could you perhaps create a new invoice template that looks like a sales order and use this? This is what I do in desktop and wondering if it would work for the online version?

The feature to create a sales order in QuickBooks Online (QBO) is still unavailable. However, you can create an estimate and then turn it into an invoice at a later time. 

You'll create an estimate and send it to your customer for a quote, bid, or proposal for work you plan to do. Then, convert it into an invoice when the customer accepts the estimate. 

Also, you can copy an estimate into a purchase order if you'll be sending it to a vendor. Check this article for more information: Copy an estimate to a purchase order.

Can you please answer the problem most users seem to have?  What is the recommended workflow to deal with the fact that Sales Orders do not exist?  Please DO NOT repeat the useless packaged script used sop many times before.....  it has been pointed out the importance of a Sales Order in the normal flow of business.  What is the explicit use case you are suggesting to make up for the fact that there is no Sales Order?  How do we send an estimate, receive a PO from customer, generate Sales Order, then invoice after all work is complete?  At this point our company has no idea what "Orders" we have b/c this system is so stupid.

Is 4-6-20  and still quickbooks have not provided a solution for Sales Order. This is unacceptable for customers that depend on order tracking?

As of now, I'm unable to provide a time-frame as to when this feature will be available in QuickBooks Online. However, we can create an Estimate.

This allow us to create an invoice at a later time. When the customer gets the invoice, this can act as the sales order.

The issue with using the Estimate is this feature doesn't give a clear picture of backorders for someone who is not in accounting.  It's not feasible for productivity of accurate invoicing or inventory.   Is there a window for when the engineers will come up with a solution for this as it has been 3 years since the first comment.

I agree. I'd love to move to QBO. It really would have saved me during this pandemic. But not having Sales Orders is a deal-breaker. My customers don't understand estimates. That sounds like something my home contractor would give me. I sell clothing wholesale and that option doesn't work in my industry.

A month has passed since the last post...should I assume that QB has done nothing to implement this? It seems like quite a simple addition and a necessary one. What else could your Product teams be working on that is more critical than a function that your customers have been requesting for YEARS?! Shame on you QB...we will be shopping around for a new service.

We need Sales Orders ASAP in QBO. I have been a customer for years an annoyed by this issue. I will not move to QB Enterprise with hosting... i tried it and it sucks. I love QBO but need you to step up your game and ESCALATE this issue so the right person gets the information and get this done.

Renaming an ESTIMATE as a Sales Order WON'T WORK! an Estimates is not a posted transaction!!

I need to be able to send SALES ORDER to my customer and in my INVENTORY I need to be able to se the amount that is ALLOCATED for those Sales orders and then the amount available for sale after that!

I been having to run excel sheets to track this just because you have not implemented this for the past 3 years EVEN when many users have requested it...

Options:

1. Having a 3rd party app to integrate with your QBO (e.g inventory management app, manufacturing app)

2. Switch to QBD Premier/Enterprise. Deploy a private cloud or put the license on a QB cloud hosting.

I tried QB Enterprise with Hosting and it wont work for me... I really need QBO Online because I use different Apps that Integrate to it. (They cannot connect to QB Enterprise)

I pull a lot of data from QBO using a BI software. I am checking for an Inventory Management software but they dont connect to the BI software... that's why just being able to create SO in QB Online and seen the allocated inventory will fix the issue
