Hello there, @lj22. I appreciate you following the steps provided by my colleagues. Allow me to add some insights about being unable to print three pages of 1099 NEC.
Since you already updated your QuickBooks release version and are still can't print the third page, I recommend checking first and ensuring the update is successful.
When you open QuickBooks Desktop, you can click F2 and see the version you are using. These are the versions required to print the 1099 NEC forms in QuickBooks Desktop.

If you can see that you are using an older version, update it outside QuickBooks.

Hello everyone. I want to make sure you're able to print the 1099-NEC form with three vendors per page.
I'd suggest getting in touch with our Customer Care Support Team. They can check why you're still unable to print your forms with three vendors per page after updating QuickBooks Desktop and provide troubleshooting to fix this.

What I discovered was that my QB was not updating. I checked reset update and updated. A rather long process took place including updating critical issues. I then closed QB and restarted my computer. Went back into QB and discovered the necessary updates were made so that I could print out 1099’s onto the three per page form. Worked fine. All done!!
Make sure you check “reset updates”!
I had failed to do this. Mine is fine now. 1099’s completed on the three per page form.
for me it was user error
Fixed now. Check reset updates and run updates again. My 1099’s are finished!!!!
EVERYONE READ THIS! THIS FIX WORKS....DON'T CALL THE HELP LINE!!!
Thank you so much! After 3:15 hours on the phone yesterday with the help desk, they told me that my mapping and categories were wrong and that the IRS changed the regulations and that I was wrong and needed to follow QBs update. Unfortunately, I only called to be able to print 3 to a sheet for the NEC form and with the update that she had me do 3 times it blanked out all of the data and reporting for all of my 1099s and I had to start over. I had the IRS books and info in front of me and I told her she was wrong, not me.
This took me at least 5 hours until I found your post! This works!!!
@MH2661 wrote:If you updated and the NEC eligible accounts are greyed out and say "Box 15: State tax withheld", here is how I resolved that issue.
Go thru the Print 1099's process again and select to Print 1009-MISC instead of 1099-NEC.On the screen where you map accounts to boxes, set all accounts that should be 1099-NEC to "omit". These are the account that were greyed out previously. Save.
Now go back and print the 1099-NEC. It would let me change those accounts now.
Hope this helps.
What a nightmare this has been. This is the last nightmare to this entire update that left me wanting to strangle the Quickbooks people. The 1099 NEC did not want to print and had Box 15 etc. There is no Box 15. Anyway, I found this passage below and it finally works. Watch out for items below $600. It wants to print that as well, but you can just unclick that vendor from the list so it does not print. Not the proper procedure, but quick fix for now.

This works. Thank you so much!!!!! What a nightmare.
Make sure to unclick vendors that are not over $600. It wanted to print the 1099 for $150. That was my quick fix, to unclick the vendor once you start the 1099 printing process. I have spent about 5 hours as well trying to print 1099. OMG
I have QB Enterprise 2022 and the looks like I am on R3_65. I've done the critical fixed and updates several time but the _65 never changes. How do I get it to R3_71 to be able to print the 1099s 3 per page? Again, this is for Enterprise 2022. My accountant versions print 3 per page just fine and Online too.
Hi @Elizabeth50, how did the program react after installing the updates?
Let's work together to get the R3_71 version installed successfully. We need to repair QuickBooks to identify and fix why it is not installing the critical update's installation. I'll show you how.
But if the steps above didn't make any changes with the issue currently raised, let's continue our troubleshooting steps by following the steps below:
Once done, restart your desktop first before working again with QuickBooks. Then, right-click on the QuickBooks icon on your Desktop, select Run as Administrator, and install the updates accordingly.

I had to redo the settings (mappings) in the 1099 NEC after taking off the MISC settings of what accounts should be mapped so they were not used in both places - which makes the 1099 figures not show up at all. After fixing that I was able to print the 1099 NEC to 3 per page. That is all I needed to do from the client's backup. I don't actively used Enterprise 2022.
what about qb online !
Im an accountant and need to print
Hello there, @dgtc.
It seems that my colleague, @ShiellaGraceA, already answered this post. You can check out this link for more information https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/other-questions/re-1099-nec-is-a-3-up-form-but-qb-....

I am having the same problem and am amazed at the inefficiency of Intuit to get this taken care of, especially since we are on a deadline to have these forms out to any vendors. I have used QB Pro Desktop for many years and in the past have recommended it to my clients. I will now have to rethink that. Is this a problem with other accounting software programs or just Intuit?
@sandyburkart wrote:Just tried to print out 1099 NEC for 2021 in my 2022 version of QB's desktop and it is only showing 2 to a page when the tax forms have 3 to a page. Is QB's working on fixing this issu this a problem with other accounting software programs or just Intuit?
I am so disappointed that QuickBooks doesn't have an update for the 3 part 1099-NEC forms. This is just another example of how they make you buy an update!!!!! So many companies I know are ready to find another software program and it's time. They need competition to keep the in-line.
If anyone has any suggestions for a work-around on this I would love to hear them!
Thanks!
this is not true. AS of January 18th there is no fix in the works....just want to sell us their forms.
I was online help for hours and no resolution. Sorry I updated to 2022.
I've gone through all the steps to print my 1099-NEC forms (QB Desktop 2022) and it won't show me a preview or print the forms to my Brother printer. I just did an Update Now and restarted QB for the third time. I've done this process for the past 14 years and never encountered this issue before. Can you please help!?!?!
Welcome to the Community, lorettarex.
I'd like to help and make sure you're able to see and print forms in QuickBooks Desktop.
Before we start, you may check the following to ensure your printer is working properly:
After that, check if your printer cant print outside QuickBooks, use Notepad.
If you're able to do so, you can run the QuickBooks Print & Print Repair Tool from the QuickBooks Tool Hub. This will fix most f the common printing issues.
I've added this article for your future reference: Resolve printing issues.
Please leave a comment and tag my name if you still have other printing concerns. I'll keep an eye on your response. Have a great day!
Thank you. This worked. Ive had a time upgraded to do this new forms and them the program not being ready for it. Crazy.
Horrible! I was on phone with 1 Tech support a week ago for 1 hour. They could not figure out why the 1099 NEC form is still printing 2 to a page after being in the phone for over an hour.
Today i was on phone with 2 seperate Customer Service reps and spent another Hour and a Half fir the same result.
I cant imagine no one took the effort to see what would print when thry changed this format, rediculas.
If I have to handwrite, i dont need Quickbooks.
This is horrible Tech Support and may be time for me to leave and go with PsyChecks. I dont have time for this.
If no one has shared this with you,
Updaying does Not work! I Updated my Entire Quickbooks and the Payroll with no resolve.
Someone at Quickbooks needs to go in and see how this prints so they can figure out a solution.
Still not working 1/20/2022
Why would I need Quickbooks if I must do by hand? Thats what I pay Quickbooks for.
