Good Morning,

Thank you for your response!  Yesterday afternoon [01-09-19], I was trying to pay a vendor and clicked on all the invoices required and when I clicked on the Pay Selected Bills button, an "Apologize ... " message was posted asking for details and the code #15005 83803 and immediately shut down.  Restarting the computer did not help.  Trying to log onto different computer today received the same error notation.

I need to complete paying the Vendors today; I hope you can assist me.

Thanks again,

Kathryn Ofc Mgr

I was trying to open and fill out the Federal 941 Quarterly form and two things happened in rapid sequence:  1--a message that updates were downloading, and that stuck at 99%.  2--immediately after the window in #1 showed, another one showed that said "The file you specified cannot be opened....(see screen shot)  and when I clicked OK, it refreshed the same message, and this would happen indefinitely.  I have to go to Task Mgr and quit the QB task to escape from this hell.  So, I did a QB rebuild and got Error 179, for which I can find no description/explanation.  Why bother having an error with a number if there is no listing of errors by number?! Screen Shot 2019-01-18 at 12.58.41 PM.png

Hi. I recently installed qb pro 2019 but I am unable to do a backup of the 2014 version when updating the company file. If I try to do a local backup or verify and rebuild data I'm getting the error code -6143, -301.

I'll help you get around this error, Tamar.

We'll try a few steps to get rid of it.

First, let's download the QuickBooks File Doctor on your computer. This tool fixes -6000 errors.

Next, let's rename the .ND and .TLG files. Once these files are corrupted, you'll encounter -6000 errors. These are configuration files that allow the software to access company file in a network. Here's how:

  1. Open the folder where your file is saved.
  2. Look for the files with the sane name as your company file but with extensions .ND and .TLG (Examples: company_file.qbw.nd and company_file.qbw.tlg).
  3. Right-click on the file, then choose Rename. Add OLD at the end of each file name (Example: company_file.qbw.nd.OLD).

Then, open a sample company file. This helps us isolate the issue. We're testing if the problem lies with your file or the software application. Here's how:

  1. Close your file.
  2. In the No Company Open window, click Open a sample file, then choose a file from the list.
  3. If you encountered no error in the sample file, get to the next solution. But, if you get the same error message, repair QuickBooks.

Lastly, copy the file on the Desktop. By doing this, we're checking if there is a problem with the company file location. Here's how:

  1. Open the folder where your file is saved, then find the file with .QBW extension.
  2. Right-click, then choose Copy.
  3. Go to Desktop, right-click anywhere, then choose Paste.
  4. Hold the CTRL key, then open QuickBooks.

You can keep us updated after trying these steps. We'll be along straightaway to help you out.

Thanks for looping in, REX421.

I'm here to help you open your company file in QuickBooks Desktop.

Files may not open in QuickBooks for reasons such as:

  • Corrupted or damaged QuickBooks Company file.
  • The file is already opened by another user on the shared network.
  • Using wrong methods to open particular file types.
  • Issues with reports in the file.
  • Issues like access permissions, encrypted or compressed files, problems with filename and extension, and corruption of the data within the file.

Before You Start Troubleshooting

  1. Before troubleshooting the company file, make sure the issue is related to the company file rather than the program itself. Also, make sure that QuickBooks is updated to the latest release. See Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.
    1. Press and hold the Ctrl key while double-clicking the QuickBooks Desktop icon.
Note: Do not let go of the Ctrl key until you have the No Company Open window in QuickBooks.
    2. If the program fails to open while holding the Ctrl key, see QuickBooks Desktop does not start for steps to resolve, as the following will not help.
    3. If the program does open, proceed below.
  2. Verify that only one computer is hosting your company file. Turn off hosting in all computers aside from the server.
    1. From the QuickBooks File menu, select Utilities.
    2. Select Stop hosting multi-user accessQuick tip: If you see anything other than Stop hosting multi-user access, it means hosting is currently turned off on that computer.
    3. Once you verify that hosting is disabled, proceed below.
    4. Make sure that your QuickBooks Desktop Program is not corrupted. Open a sample company file and if you get an error, proceed to troubleshooting Solution 7 QuickBooks Desktop Installation.

Here's an article for more recommended solutions: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/community/Help-Articles/Resolve-Problems-Opening-QuickBooks-Desktop-or....

Please let me know how it goes or if you ran into a different situation while opening your company file. I'm here to help you out.

Thanks for joining the thread, Me31.

I'd be happy to provide some clarification regarding the backup feature in QuickBooks.

Pictures, attachments, and other files that you use are saved in a different folder where your QuickBooks data is located. That's the reason why they're not included during the backup.

That said, if you need to back them up, you'll need to manually do it by saving it on a different folder on the same location, or on an external drive. For additional insight about this, I recommend following this article: Create backup of the QuickBooks Desktop company file

Please let me know if you need further clarification about this, or if there's anything else I can do for you. Thanks again for dropping by, wishing you all the best!
