There are just a few steps to get this done. Here's how:
1. Make sure you have the company you need to delete open.
2. Click the Gear icon in the top right corner.
3. Choose Account and Settings.
4. Select the Billing and Subscription tab.
5. Click the blue Cancel link beside of the Subscription status.
6. You'll be asked if you want to change your plan, call in, or continue to cancel. If you're sure, select Continue to cancel.
This article offers more info about canceling your subscription and what happens to your data once you cancel: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/community/Help-Articles/How-to-cancel-your-subscription/m-p/187739.
With this info you'll be able to delete the company that is no longer needed. Feel free to comment below if you have any other questions.
this is an explaination of how to cancel the subscription... but how do you DELETE a company?
Hi ellyv,
You'll have to reach out to our QuickBooks Support Team. They have the tools to delete your company in our system.
On another note, we recommend exporting your QuickBooks Online (QBO) data for your records.

I'm having issues transferring my desktop to the correct online account, would this work? Whats happening is when I do download its going to the "trial" account and not the "subscribed" account.
Thanks for joining this thread, speedo.
I'm here to help ensure you're able to transfer your data to QuickBooks Online (QBO).
Upon moving your data, a step will ask you to sign in as the admin of the QBO company. Make sure to select the subscribed account, not the trial one.
You can follow the steps outlined below on how to import your desktop file to QBO:
You can refer to this article for detailed steps and video tutorial: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.
Another way of moving your data is to export list from QBDT, then import them to QBO. Check out these articles to know the list and transaction type you can transfer:

Is this seriously the answer? You cant delete your own online file?
I knew the desktop version sucked but the entire idea of having an online version is to not take failures from the desktop and just "online" them.
Glad to have you here in the Community, @SuperMarioPowerUp.
Allow me to provide some clarifications about deleting a company file in QuickBooks Online.
Being able to delete your company file on the spot in QBO isn't available. We only allow you to cancel your account. This is to ensure that you can still view your data whenever you need some information when filing your forms for the year.
Your company data will be completely eliminated a year after you cancel it. I'd suggest printing the forms and reports you might need in the future.
To give you more insights on what will happen to your data after the cancellation and on how you can delete a company file and start a new one, you may scan through these links below:

I'm trying to close a QBO company & there is no billing & subscription tab when I go to account & settings
I’ve got some troubleshooting steps to share with you, @YarAcct.
Cached data make your browsing experience process faster and saves you time. However, it can slow things down if it gets too big. These files can sometimes become outdated/corrupted, leading to unusual issues that affect system functionalities.
An incognito or private window will not save any history and a good way to identify browser problems. Try to redo the process while using it. You can use these keyboard shortcuts below:
If it works, go back to your main browser and clear its cache to start fresh. You can also use other supported browsers as an alternative. In addition, it would be best to utilize the Health Checkup Tool. It is used to check multiple aspects of the browser to make sure the application runs seamlessly.
Keep me posted on how it goes. I'm here to make sure you get all the help you need. Always take care!
@ellyv wrote:this is an explaination of how to cancel the subscription... but how do you DELETE a company?
The real reason you are not allowed to delete a company file from QBO is so that you don't go around sharing subscriptions with other people. That's all. Otherwise you'd be able to do your books, back up, delete, and let someone else use your account to upload their company data, do their books, backup, delete....rinse, repeat. If you have to cancel your sub, then your friend has to buy his own sub.
I don't understand why Intuit just doesn't admit this, there is nothing wrong with it. One company, one sub. I'm sure they have highly paid PR people who can put this in a nice corporate-sounding way. But instead, we're supposed to believe it's just so that we can file our forms later in the year.
So this isn't what the Chat agents will tell you if you contact them via that method. They either don't know or can't find the answer to this and just will drop the Chat (2-hours, thanks for that!), or tell you that deleting a Company cannot be done and "there is nothing that we can do". You cannot delete a Company, even via tech support it seems, and you must instead wait a year after cancelling a subscription for QBO to decide to delete the Company (assuming that actually happens). I think it would be helpful if on https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/cancel-products-or-services/cancel-your-quickbooks... the last line of "Learn what happens to your data after you cancel" is edited by adding: "We are not able to delete a Company any sooner than one year for any reason." That would at least eliminate ambiguity on this issue.
Go to manage your account, then data privacy. The ability to delete is there.
This is utter nonsense. I had problems the first time I migrated my data due to being unable to get my sales person onboard with an account. so we had to continue to use QuickBooks Desktop until the problem was resolved. So then when I had to migrate again, I was told I had to delete the subscription and subscribe again in order to do it. And guess what?.. the discount I was provided with when I signed up the first time was no longer available and I was expected to sign up and pay the now, now doubled, rate. No thanks.
If this software was worth a spit, it would be able to read an updated company file and simply were in the transactions as if someone was entering them directly from a keyboard.
