Hello
I am looking for help as I still use QB Desktop Pro 2018 for bookkeeping, (general ledger and accounts payable) but no additional features. I was still able to import qbo files from bank and credit cards but the past month it started telling me I need to update to access Intuit Account. When I click on learn how the link has nothing to do with that. I login to my account through website fine so I still have access to account. When I login in still shows Quickbooks 2018 Active so I thought all was solved. Today it tells me my 28 day reminder is over. What can I do to still use the basics?
Thanks
Since last year, they have been sending notifications to users of outdated QB Desktop (e.g. 2018) to create an Intuit ID account and connect it to your company file(s). We may have to download the latest installer file and reinstall our QB program to fix this issue. If you are still having problems and only need one user to access QB Desktop, you can use the trial version of QBD 2021 to upgrade your data and use it for good if necessary.
I can help you get past this to continue working on your account efficiently, artamous.
Intuit requires you to log in to your account if your company file in QuickBooks isn't linked to your Intuit account. This ensures you have enhanced control over user access and simplifies the process of seamlessly connecting all Intuit products and functionality.
If you prefer not to log in, you have the option to click on the Remind button to stop the prompt for seven (7) days. However, please note that after 28 or 42 days, you'll no longer be able to bypass the sign-in requirement.
In addition to the provided option, you can use the keyboard shortcut Alt + F4 and then click the Cancel button as an alternative method.
To prevent the need for an Intuit login every time you open your QuickBooks Desktop company file, you can refer to this article that provides step-by-step instructions.: Stay signed in to QuickBooks Desktop. This link can help you avoid the reminder from appearing when accessing your QBDT company.
I'm here to assist you with any further inquiries or concerns about account management or any other aspects of your account. You can add them in the comment below.
With e-mail I got I am not seeing where my reply showed up. If the other one shows somewhere I should get other notifications (quickbooks needs to make seeing your postings and replies easier/more direct) so to keep short. I am at the point that I am past the 28 days. I thought I thought logging in online had me past this part, however, now I can't get where I can open company file to use alt+4 or any other functions. The screen saying past 28 days cannot be closed
Thanks again
If I download the installer will this let me back into Qucikbooks 2018 so I can link companies? If I use trial version of Qucikbooks 2021 does it become a 2021 data file and have it so I am actually using 2021? I am never confident in trial version being "forever" than if I get 2018 going it tells me I have a 2021 file that cannot be used or converted.
Thanks again for your help

You can use the trial version of QB Desktop 2018 or 2021 with the same trick for good. Contact me in private for details.
I'm sorry for such a delayed response but there have been a lot of things the past month that I have not been able to work on issue. The link you provided says it is not valid or no longer available. I am hoping I can bypass part of the problem by installing on different computer. Hopefully this lets me back in and I can try to register.
Thanks
Which link do you mean?
You can download the installer file for QB Desktop 2018 from here
I'm sorry I was pulled away from this problem with so many other issues and I am just getting back to it. I have a few intuit accounts so how do I link the files? I own a few small businesses . I use A/P for one but others are really just G/L. I'm the only user just a few companies
how do I link the files?
What do you mean with "link the files"?
I am going by what another person told me when I started topic. You can see reply I received. The link included no longer works

My initial posting

You will need to ask the original Primary Admin to change the link to a new email address (i.e another Intuit ID). Otherwise, Intuit server will send an email to the Primary Admin to grant you access with another Intuit ID. Last resort, you have to purchase a third party Admin reset service.
I am the primary/only admin. When I login to this account, it shows 2018 as one of my programs
Checking things it looks like 4Gal could be right with e-mail address. However if that is the case it would be that I set up a few companies when helping a friend with his. It could be that his account was used when setting up but I have "my copy" using key code from copy I purchased installed on this computer. How can I change/confirm this?
Thanks
When you try to open the company file with your Intuit ID, the system will send a request to the original Primary Admin and you will also get the same email. You will know what the Primary Admin email address is and you can ask them to replace it with yours later. Last resort, buy a third party Admin reset.
I think I figured the actual problem. When it tells me I need to login before using it ask username, I put in the user name but it never asks for the password. The ring of dots starts spinning but it never makes it past that part, With the weekend it has literally been trying to connect for 3 days. I have closed the program and restarted it. I have rebooted computer. The login works through website but can't complete through program. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help and patience.
My reply does not show on screen so this could be duplicate. I think what I see as actual problem at this point is when I try to login through the program it never succeeds. The dots have literally been spinning in circles for 3+ days. It ask for user name but not password. The login works through the website but not the program. Thanks for your help and patience
Hi there, artamous.
The login process requires a working built-in browser, which is responsible for online communication in the background of QuickBooks. Any updates to your computer system can make it obsolete and affect its functionality. This could be why the login process won't go through.
Normally, updating QuickBooks would resolve communication issues. However, as there are no more updates available for version 2018, I'm afraid I cannot provide any additional troubleshooting steps for this particular issue.
You can consider purchasing the latest version, so you can continue working on your company files. Just contact the phone above beside your Community avatar to buy QuickBooks. Then, you can follow the article about updating your company files to a new version later on.
Please don't hesitate to reach back out if you need further assistance with your company file. Take care and have a good one
Thanks. How do I know if built in browser is possibly installed? I have quickbooks 2023 and need to renew soon but what I use quickbooks for I cannot justify the cost and will have to find a new program. I have used qb around 25 years (maybe longer) and turbotax as well. I still have cd's for turbotax & turbotax business 97. Sadly Intuit has cost getting so out of control for small businesses and individuals and doesnt seem to care about the smaller users. Maybe a miracle and someone else can have suggestion
Thanks again
I have quickbooks 2023 and need to renew soon
Can you open any files on your QBD 2023?
When is your subscription due?
I appreciate you for getting back to this thread, @artamous.
It can be frustrating when the costs of software start to become unmanageable for small businesses and individuals.
In relation to your inquiry, it's important to emphasize that the version you mentioned, QuickBooks 2023, doesn't include a built-in browser. The custom browser will only be supported in QuickBooks Desktop Pro/Premier/Enterprise/Accountant 2020, 2021, and 2022 versions.
To learn more about this, you can review this reference: Use our built-in browser in QuickBooks Desktop.
If you decide to convert your desktop file to a QuickBooks Online company, you can check out this link for more details: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.
If you have any further questions or need assistance with managing your QuickBooks account, feel free to get back to this thread. I'll be around to help.
How can I tell if I will have 28 day limit? I have not received this message yet and have QB Desktop 2017 opening file. I fear choosing to sync license data hoping that will sync files and prevent this problem again. I have found as far back as QB 6 so far. Since I am just using for general journal and bills payable I don't care how old the program is at this time.
Thanks
