I just signed up for quickbooks online. In the past I used quicken and entered each transaction as I went so I knew exactly what the balance was in my checking account. If I were to link quickbooks with my bank, then how would I know the exact balance since quick books has to wait until the date comes in from the bank. I am afraid an automatic draft could be missed. there must be a delay...

This's a great question! Thank you for asking!
If you're familiar with Quicken (or QuickBooks Desktop) checkbook register, in QuickBooks Online, they also have bank register and works the same way. If keeping daily bank balance is very important, you can manually add transactions here as they come. Once you add here, on the banking tab once the transactions are downloaded, you will match (green button) it. If you see ADD line in bank feed, that means you've missed adding in the check register in QuickBooks. This works as checks and balances. For some QBO users, this process works the best!!
Where is check register (bank register) in QBO?
Left Dashboard > Accounting > Chart of Accounts > select account, click View Register under Action column.
Hope this helps!
Hey, sfagt.
I appreciate you reaching out here in the Community. I'm here to provide a little more insight on connecting your bank to QuickBooks Online.
Bank transactions are updated once a day at midnight. To bring in transactions more frequently, you'd:
1. Click the Banking tab in the left navigation bar.
2. Make sure the desired account is selected. (The box will be highlighted in blue.)
3. Select Update in the top right corner.
I've got an article that goes over more details about connecting your bank accounts and managing imported transactions: https://community.intuit.com/articles/1437494-connect-bank-accounts-and-manage-imported-transactions.
I'm only a post away if you have any other questions.
Hi Sfagt,
Following on from @MorganB message below, when you click update QuickBooks will bring in all the transactions that appear in your online banking when you log in. If the transaction does not show within your online banking, then it will not pull through into the QuickBooks banking section.
Kind Regards,
Emily

Thank you, your answer made the most sense.. Now I have confidence to give quickbooks a try and continue my training. My initial concern could not really be found on the company website (or if it is there then it is simply unclear.) It could not be answered by my saleman or by the girl who answered the phone when I called in to the service line. She simply told me that she always knew the balance in her own checking account. Her answer made me chuckle. So thanks again for the real answer :)
If you need more help, you can check out this very popular YouTube video (published by me).
QuickBooks Online - Bank Register (old easy way to manually enter the banking transactions in QBO)
there is no " view register" option in my actions
how do i see a list of the cheques i've written
Hi barbz.
I'm happy to help you. You can run a Check Detail report, this will let you see all checks you've written. To do so, follow these steps.
If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to post here anytime. Thank you and have a nice afternoon.
this by far is more steps to see the register for quickbooks on line.......how is this easier??????
Hi there, @dana110.
Thanks for taking the time to follow along with the thread and sharing your concerns.
You're right. Having a quicker way to access the register in QuickBooks Online would be more convenient for our users. That said, I think this would be the perfect opportunity to send this suggestion to our Product Development Team. Our developers review each request and consider them for future updates. You can use the steps I've included below to send your feedback request.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I'm always around to lend a hand. Take care!
My checkbook register has stopped showing the balance and I cannot get all activity that I manually enter to show. It is also stuck in the past, only showing items through 2022...
What did I do to cause this to happen? It was appearing when I first migrated from Desktop
The system may have set the filter settings to show only for 2022 transactions, @FOE1732.
You'll want to modify the Filter set up from the register window to show all transactions. You can check it by following these steps in QuickBooks Online (QBO):
You've mentioned that balances also disappeared from the register. Make sure to click the Mini Gear icon from the Bank Register window to review if the Running Balance box is ticked. Please see the screenshot below:
That would be why those transactions and the balances aren't appearing and how you can fix it.
If the issue persists, I suggest running QBO on an incognito or private browsing mode to isolate this. The internet files might be disrupting the data, that's why QuickBooks features aren't working as intended.
Here's how:
From there, run QBO and check if you can see the transactions and balances by following my recommendations above. If it works, I suggest clearing your regular browser's cache. This will remove broken files from the browser, and allows the browser to load updated data from the server.
Once all is good, you may be able to reconcile your checking register with the guide of your bank statement.
Let me know if you need more assistance. I'm still here to help you more. Take care always.
When I go bank register, my sort is lost from the day before. It is sorted by something other than date or reference because the balance is n/a. It reverts back to this weird sort all day long. My other user does not have this problem. What is happening? Can it be fixed?
I can share with you some steps on how to isolate and fix this issue, cmkemp.
We can perform some troubleshooting steps to fix this. There are times when the browser is full of frequently accessed page resources, which causes some errors or unusual responses.
Let's start accessing your account using a different or private browser. You can use either of these shortcut keys:
If it works, I suggest deleting your regular browser's cache. Using other supported browsers can also help isolate the issue.
Once done, we can clear the filter and sort the date header again. You can follow the steps provided by my colleague Jovychris_A above on how to sort it from your bank register.
I've added this article to learn more about how to remove columns on your bank register as well as on what other transactions you can quickly add:
I'll be here whenever you need more help with your bank register. Just add them in your reply and I'll take care of them for you. Wishing you and your business continued success!
No luck with fixing.
Emptied cashe.
Used another brower.
No change.
I have reset it and closed out. Went back in to account and no change.
Will not save a sort by date.
real puzzle.
Thank you.
