checkbook register

I just signed up for quickbooks online.  In the past I used quicken and entered each transaction as I went so I knew exactly what the balance was in my checking account.  If I were to link quickbooks with my bank, then how would I know the exact balance since quick books has to wait until the date comes in from the bank.   I am afraid an automatic draft could be missed.   there must be a delay...

This's a great question! Thank you for asking!

If you're familiar with Quicken (or QuickBooks Desktop) checkbook register, in QuickBooks Online, they also have bank register and works the same way. If keeping daily bank balance is very important, you can manually add transactions here as they come. Once you add here, on the banking tab once the transactions are downloaded, you will match (green button) it. If you see ADD line in bank feed, that means you've missed adding in the check register in QuickBooks. This works as checks and balances. For some QBO users, this process works the best!!

Where is check register (bank register) in QBO?
Left Dashboard > Accounting > Chart of Accounts > select account, click View Register under Action column.

    Hope this helps!

    Hey, sfagt.

I appreciate you reaching out here in the Community. I'm here to provide a little more insight on connecting your bank to QuickBooks Online.

Bank transactions are updated once a day at midnight. To bring in transactions more frequently, you'd:

    1. Click the Banking tab in the left navigation bar.

    2. Make sure the desired account is selected. (The box will be highlighted in blue.)

    3. Select Update in the top right corner.

I've got an article that goes over more details about connecting your bank accounts and managing imported transactions: https://community.intuit.com/articles/1437494-connect-bank-accounts-and-manage-imported-transactions.

I'm only a post away if you have any other questions.

    Hi Sfagt,

Following on from @MorganB message below, when you click update QuickBooks will bring in all the transactions that appear in your online banking when you log in. If the transaction does not show within your online banking, then it will not pull through into the QuickBooks banking section.

    Kind Regards,

    Emily

    Hi barbz.

I'm happy to help you. You can run a Check Detail report, this will let you see all checks you've written. To do so, follow these steps.

    1. Click Reports on the left-hand side.
    2. In the search bar, type Check Detail.
    3. Click Run report.

If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to post here anytime. Thank you and have a nice afternoon.
