Hi there, accounts12.
Thanks for taking the time to reached out to us. Allow me to address your concern, so let me get this straightened out.
QuickBooks Online doesn't have an option to add/change unit of measurement for inventory item. I can see how this feature would be beneficial to your business, I encourage you to send feedback directly to our Product Developer Team. They place a lot of value in the ideas provided by users, when deciding on how best to improve QuickBooks.
Here's how you can send feedback:
For future reference, you can check this article on how to create and use a products and services list.
Please know that you're always welcome to post if you have any other questions. Have a good one.
Good day, Hkoi.
For now, we're unable to provide a predicted time period. Rest assured, I will share your concern to our management team so they can submit this to our product developers. They will review all your requests and might include it in future updates.
Visit the Community anytime if you have other concerns.
It's disappointing to get these kind of replies. Can you provide us a ticket number so we can follow up with the request that you sent them because the feature is still not implemented? Without the ticket number we have no way of holding anyone accountable for your promise.
This link shows that there was a known issue with units of measure and QuickBooks Online so I'm assuming your developers abandoned the implementation instead of fixing the issue since it's been over six months since you last posted and there still is no units of measure in QBO.
I completely understand how you feel, @Michaels88.
However, we don't have the ability to create a ticket for a feedback request here in the Community. These feedback request are directly given to our engineers since they will be reviewing this first before applying in the next future updates.
I recommend to visit our QuickBooks Online Blog instead. This way, you can view the latest updates in QuickBooks.
Please let me know by commenting below if you have any other QuickBooks concerns. I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
It just really feels like you're telling me "Thoughts and Prayers". I guess I'll just hope for the best because it doesn't seem like there's any accountability on your side. You're placing the onus on your customers to read about what you're working on instead of creating real change. If you guys aren't able to figure out how to resolve the problems with units in QBO it's much better to say, "We're working on it but we don't know how to fix the problems yet" instead of telling us to read your blog to see if you figured it out yet.
There is no update for units until today, even thought it was suggested over a year ago. How can an accounting program not have units / measurements available? Do you sell 10 rolls of cables or 10 meters of cables. It is completly wasted time to enter the feedback form. No accountability, no changes, no support in this important matter.
For the time being, consider using an inventory management app.
I can provide some information about this feature, @cepps11.
The feature to set of add or change a unit of measurement in QuickBooks Online is still unavailable. That would be a great addition to the current features that we have, so I'll take note of it.
For the meantime, I suggest visiting the QuickBooks Blog to check for new updates and features that we have.
You can also check for any third-party app that works perfectly with QuickBooks Online that supports adding or changing units of measurement. See this find apps article for detailed guidance.
I'm always here if you have additional concerns with the account and or anything else. Take care and have a wonderful day!

Wow ! I purchased Quickbookonline recently and realised they do not offer multiple units of measure on QBO. Also I notice here the Quickbook team seem to be a complete waste of time as this discussions are ongoing for over 1 year. I will be cancelling my subscription unless someone from Quickbook contacts me on [email address removed] and assists in resolving this issue
Very disappointed, purchased QBO recently and realised they dont offer multiple units on measure for maintaining inventory. Can someone from Quickbook contact me or else I will just go ahead and cancel my subscription.
QBO doesn't offer the feature and you have to use an additional app for it as I mentioned in earlier post. Consider switching to QB Desktop Premier or Enterprise.
Good afternoon, @Malay Shahj.
Thanks for joining in on this thread. This isn't the impression I want to leave you with. I can provide you with some additional insight into the multiple Units of Measure feature. I can also walk you through the steps of contacting our Customer Support Team.
The Units of Measure feature is only available in the QuickBooks Desktop version at this time. I'll send feedback to Product Developers so they can consider this in one of the upcoming releases. They take the time to review every request and try to add them to the next available update for QuickBooks. You can check out our QuickBooks Blog to see what's new in the system.
However, you can still get in touch with our Customer Support Team by the instructions listed below:
Afterward, you'll receive an estimated time of when one of our specialists will call you. In the end, if you want to cancel your subscription, here's a guide that can help you out.
Let me know if this helps. It's my priority that all of your concerns addressed. I value you and the success of your business. I'm only a few clicks away if you need me. Have a fantastic day!
It is a complete waste of time submitting feedback. QBO has no interest in actually listening to their customers' requests for features and the patronizing replies on these threads only reinforces that perception. Handling multiple units of measure should be a no brainer - users aren't asking to replicate the feature set of the more robust inventory management apps - they are asking for a very focused feature. It's already implemented in the desktop version so obviously the knowledge in terms of workflows exists within Intuit. Recommending a user start using another product with a hefty monthly subscription for such a simple feature is a cop out. We already pay a pretty exorbitant monthly fee considering the number of bugs and lack of features.
This seems to be an ongoing thing with QBO - users make the lack of a feature known, they get a somewhat canned response and then years go by with no movement and no way to hold Intuit accountable. I just switched a month ago and I kick myself almost every day as I realize there's yet another small feature that the online version is missing or is buggy. Seriously considering throwing in the towel and just calling all the data entry labour a loss and moving to another company that actually cares about it's customers.

They listened and monetized it. They acquired the app as I mentioned in earlier post. If you don't prefer using an additional app, consider switching to QBD Premier. You may purchase a one time license of QBD 2021 Premier 1 user worth $499. Deploy a private cloud if required to access the data by internet connection.
@Fiat Lux - ASIA I get what your saying, just frustrated with the huge gaps in feature for QBO. They bill it as a quasi-replacement for QBD but it's not even in the same neighbourhood.
I moved from a combination of an old version of QBD Premier and Invoice Ninja for the front end invoicing because QBD is just clunky for customer facing stuff but I'm now rethinking the whole idea of QBO. It just seems like a bait and switch.
The problem I have with the idea of using these other apps is two-fold - the not insignificant added cost but the biggest is just the added complexity. I don't need the complex inventory management solutions they provide, I really only need 1 thing: multiple units of measure.
I don't need work orders or bundling or shipping or any of a hundred other little niceties these other solutions provide, I just need to be able to e.g. buy a case of 12 items but sell both as a case or individually. And also have my inventory correct in QBO so that I can actually use the reorder points, etc.
Now its January 2022...still no update on when this feature will be available? This has got to be one of main reasons me and so many other companies are unable to switch to QB Online Advanced. I can't believe there's not a product roadmap that can at least identify when this feature is slated for...if its not on the roadmap, then that is a major oversight with so many that have mentioned the need for this capability. Please provide another update for the community as we're hoping for at least something in the form of a timeline when we will see it...
Welcome to the Community, TSev.
I can certainly understand how an ability to add/change the unit of measurement could be useful and have submitted a suggestion about it as of today.
You can also submit your own feature requests while signed in.
Here's how:
Your feedback's definitely valuable to Intuit. It will be reviewed by our Product Development team and considered in future updates. Since these are requests, there's no guarantee that can be given as to if a feature may be created, but rest assured this is the proper way to submit a request to the appropriate group. You can stay up-to-date with the latest news about your product by reviewing Intuit's Product Updates webpage.
For the time being, you can also check out our QuickBooks App Store to see if there's any applications which may be able to help you achieve what you're looking to do.
I'll be here to help if there's any additional questions. Have a lovely day!
