How do I print my check register? Quicken always let me do it. QuickBooks does not! Anyone able to help me?

QuickBooks Online

Hey there, anngalen!

You're right, at this time, there's no way to actually print the Bank Register itself. Instead, I can help you create a report that we can print out that will work just as well as actually printing the register. It's really easy, and we can even save it so we can reuse the report any time we want to print the register. Here's how!

We're going to start by clicking Reports on the left side of your screen, and we're going to choose Balance Sheet from the different options.
Next, we're going to click on the amount to the right of the account name for the bank account we'd like to print the Register.
Click Customize in the upper left of the screen and set the date range to whatever you'd like in the pop up window, and then click Run Report.
You can either print this report, or export it to Excel!

That's it! This report will give us an accurate opening and ending balance for the date range and specific bank account selected. You can even save this for later use by clicking Save Customizations in the upper left. It may not be the exact same as printing your register, but I think it will give you everything you need :)

This is just a balance sheet. I need something that shows each transaction such as a register. Anyway to get a more detailed register like report?

Hi, adoption!

It seems you're having a hard time seeing which value you need to click on the Balance Sheet to bring you to the Transaction Report of an account, so I made you a couple screenshots with arrows so you can see what I'm talking about! Just click the value to the right of the account we'd like to print, and we'll be taken to a Transaction Report with a beginning balance at the top. Check out my screenshot (and no, I don't really have that fake balance in my bank account, LOL!)! Hope this clears it all up for you :)

I can get the report to come up but when I print it, it keeps cutting off the check amounts & balance. I have played with it over and over again and I can't get it to print correctly???? Please HELP!!!

This is old tread. Since then, much have improved in new QuickBooks Online.

See the new instructions below!

Since you cannot print directly from the Bank Register, you will need to use the built-in ACCOUNT QUICK REPORT from the Chart of Accounts. You will get the same information as you would see on the Bank Register.

From the home page screen

Select the Company Gear (upper right corner)

Select Chart of Accounts under Settings heading

Highlight the bank account your want to print

Click Report blue button

You can customize the report more by clicking Customize button and also change Transaction Date if needed.

This method doesn't provide a beginning balance. I need that. The other method does, but it's calculating incorrectly. The beginning balance on the report does not match the beginning balance in the register. I don't understand where that number is pulling from. Can you help?

Hi there, dmadge.

Thanks for joining this thread. Allow me to help provide some information about the Bank Register.

Are you trying to print the Bank Register itself? If so, you can definitely to this in QuickBooks Online (QBO). Let me walk you through the steps:

On the left tab, click Banking.
Click Go to Register in the Banking page.
Select the Print icon on the left side option.
Click Print.

For additional reference, you can check this article on how to sort and filter transactions in a register.

That should do it! Don't hesitate to add a comment below if you have additional questions about the bank register. I'm always here to help you out. Have a good one.

JanyRoseB gave excellent directions. Only thing I would add to it is before printing, if you go to the gear two icons over from the print, you can select what you want to see. Ex: running balance (which is what I think you want). Also, above the date, on the left you will see a filter icon, select the arrow down here and you can select your date specifics. I feel your pain. Took me awhile to figure it out too. Good luck figuring out all the nuances of QBO - and keep posting questions! If you have them, so do others.

In QBO, I am able to find and print the check register. But in cases where a check was booked to more than one account, I want the SPLIT column to show all the accounts that check was booked to, rather than just the word "split." How do I do that? (In the desktop version there was a check box to "show spilt detail." Not so in Online)

I'm sorry - but shouldn't a check book register be one in the list of a few reports that are used by all clients? I just read a page of instructions on how to create a report that does not answer my questions. Why should I develop a report and have to save it - and why wouldn't you want to save it after you spent an hour on trying to figure it out.

Come on QB. Give us a Check Register Report. You do it and save for the rest of us. Shouldn't take long or be too hard.

I wanted just a check register with totals. So I went to Journal reports and customized it and named it "Check Register". Gives me a list of checks and a total by whatever date I want.
