QBO Import fail with error OL-222 - Quickbook Desktop 2023 MAC Plus

QBO file imports stopped working recently, I searched all over net, support and community but could not find concrete answer, we made sure that all the file validations are correct (length's, special characters, etc...)

Cause I discovered is, QBO import is not working in Quickbook desktop if  "in fidir.txt file CREDIT service is not mentioned against the FI from  lookup {BANKING, WEB-CONNECT,CREDIT, DIRECT-CONNECT or BLANK }"

If I use intuit.BID for the bank which has CREDIT service mentioned in fidir.txt then same QBO file import successfully. So there seems no issue in QBO file but the Opted Service for the bank (CREDIT in this case)

Can any one help to validate the theory and help me to understand what is this CREDIT service and from where can we enable for bank so that QBO import will start working

fidir.txt file I refer - https://ofx-prod-filist.intuit.com/qw2800/data/fidir.txt

QBO Import fail with error OL-222 - Quickbook Desktop 2023 MAC Plus

Hello there, zodgevaibhav.

Error OL-222 indicates that QuickBooks didn't receive a valid response from the financial institution's server. This happens when you try to import one or more characters. QBO file that isn't compliant with the Open Financial Exchange (OFX) standard for exchanging financial data with QuickBooks.

Irregular formatting of the QuickBooks company file may also lead to the QuickBooks banking error OL-222. Make sure to double-check any invalid text on the file before importing them to QuickBooks.

Before we do any troubleshooting steps, I'd recommend creating a backup copy of your company file and updating your QuickBooks Desktop release version.

Aside from not receiving a valid response from the financial institution's server, unsupported characters in the QBO file can also cause this error. Here's how we can edit the file:

  1. Right-click the .QBO file and select Edit.
  2. Select any text editor app to open the file.
  3. Find and remove &amp from the text as it is an invalid character.
  4. Save the file again.

You can find this information and more in the following article: Fix error OL-222 in QuickBooks for Mac.

If you're still experiencing issues, or need further guidance, feel free to post below.

Thank you for quick response, but as I mentioned, Same file works if I change Intuit.BID to some other bank, issue is surely not because of &amp or any other validations.

If I can get clarity on the questions I asked in mail thread will help

"what is this CREDIT service and from where can we enable for bank so that QBO import will start working" (Refer main thread for details)

QBO Import fail with error OL-222 - Quickbook Desktop 2023 MAC Plus

Why not give a straight answer to the well-known problem instead of looping the issue back to customer service to receive no clear solution to the problem? Apple Card is correctly exporting the ".QBO" and QB replies with the error message asking to contact your financial institution for the OL-222 CODE. Is this a professional reply? I don't need or want to link QB to credit cards or bank accounts.

FWIW I'm having the same issue "Error Code OL-222" and I am using a PC.

I spoke to my bank and they do not have a solution and said to talk to QB.

I've run all the updates, removed the &amp as suggested in another thread.

UPDATE: I found this thread and one of the comments also said to remove any instance of | which I did and it fixed the problem.

This issue is happening on Quickbooks Desktop 2020 for Mac, too. I have tried deleting and replacing the fidir.txt files and have reviewed the contents of the qbo files.  This is a recent issue that prevents basic qbo file import.

Thanks for the suggested fix. I have completed these steps a couple of times.  The accounts are from Bank of America and Chase.  I've also tried disabling online access for those account and tried reconfiguring online banking for them again.  After closing and reopening quickbooks and trying to enable online banking for either banks, I receive the same OL-222 error.   OL-222 when trying to import qbo files and when trying to reenable online banking for them.

QBO Import fail with error OL-222 - Quickbook Desktop 2023 MAC Plus

Hello there, triview.

Allow me to chime in and help you make sure this banking issue is resolved.

The OL-222 error is normally generated when there is a problem with the connection between QuickBooks and your financial institution.

Although you have already followed the troubleshooting steps provided above and the issue persists, it's important to note that QuickBooks Desktop Mac 2020 is no longer supported. Consequently, certain features, important updates, technical support, and Intuit services, including online banking integration, will no longer be provided.

Considering this situation, I recommend upgrading to a newer version of QuickBooks Desktop. By doing so, you will be able to seamlessly utilize online banking and avoid any potential banking errors. The newer versions of QuickBooks Desktop are designed to be compatible with the latest banking requirements and offer enhanced features and support.

For additional troubleshooting steps in fixing bank connection issues, you can check this article: Fix online banking issues in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

If you have other banking concerns, feel free to leave a comment below. I'll be here to assist. Have a great day!

QBO Import fail with error OL-222 - Quickbook Desktop 2023 MAC Plus

Hello,

I am also using QB Desktop 202 for Mac. The weird thing is I have been dealing with three different banking accounts within this software. I was able to download the QBO files without ANY issues a couple day ago for two other accounts. Today I sat down to import my QBO file from First Republic and for the first time, I received the OL-222 error. Has this "unsupported" issue happened in the last few days?

Thank you.

PS - I too have done all the fixes to no avail.

QBO Import fail with error OL-222 - Quickbook Desktop 2023 MAC Plus

Greetings, @bedatie. Thanks for joining the thread and sharing the details of your concern. It's our pleasure to provide you with information regarding the error message when importing data into QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

I understand the urgency to fix this issue as soon as possible. I'm here to help you get past this error.

If you see the following message after you try to import a .qbo file from your bank, it means the .qbo file format is wrong and may also lead to the QuickBooks banking error OL-222. Or the list of Financial Institutions in QuickBooks needs an update. This error can occur when the financial institution does not respond correctly to QuickBooks. In this case, contact your bank to confirm the file format.

To resolve this error effortlessly, you can follow troubleshooting steps provided by experts, which typically involve updating the list of Financial Institutions or ensuring the correct QBO file format. It will enable you to make use of online banking and prevent any potential banking errors from occurring.

Before any troubleshooting steps, we recommend creating a backup copy of your company file. Also, I recommend updating your QuickBooks Desktop release version. The newer versions of QuickBooks Desktop are specifically designed to be compatible with the latest banking requirements and offer improved features and support.

Here's how to correct the unsupported characters in the .QBO file which causes this error:

  1. Right-click the .QBO file and select Edit.
  2. Select any text editor app to open the file.
  3. Find and remove &amp from the text as it is an invalid character.
  4. Save the file again.

If the issue persists, you can visit this article and follow the next troubleshooting steps (proceed to Solution 3): Error: OL-222 after downloading a Web Connect file from an approved bank.

For more troubleshooting steps, check out this article: Fix Web Connect import errors.

Thank you so very much for this, @4Gal. I guess "disabled" is the big word of the day - that explains why I was able to do this transaction without any issues a couple days ago and now it's giving me the error.

I think I will just upgrade - even though QB 2020 tells me I'm all up to date.
