Hello, Shortib.
In QuickBooks, you can only use the Excel/CSV file when you import lists.
With regard to your concern, if your financial institution supports WebConnect (.QBO) file, then you can import it to QuickBooks.
Here's how:
Go to the Bank Feeds Center to check the imported transactions.
Feel free to get back to us if you need more help.
The issue is, how do we get .CSV bank data into QuickBooks?
It's like you didn't read the question.
If .QBO was available and working we wouldn't have a problem.
Only some accounts offer .QBO. For example this client's US bank account offers Quicken and .CSV. When I use a Quicken to .QBO converter Quickbooks still says the resulting .QBO file is not supported.
There's a real problem with bank feeds not accepting .csv. Many bank accounts do not offer .QBO and the converter doesn't work for all Quicken files.
Hi there, @shortib.
Thanks for reaching back out to us. I'm here to provide additional information about importing a .CSV data into QuickBooks Desktop.
Currently, QuickBooks Desktop is unable to support .CSV file when importing bank transactions. However, to get your transactions imported, you can check out for a third party application. Also, you can ask your financial institution on where to download the .qbo file if available.

I am a little confused - this post is not that old - but nothing from the QB support? I just purchased QB Desktop for Mac 2019. I am BRAND NEW to the QB application and need to import only six months of check transactions that are in an EXCEL /CSV format. In the QB fDesktop for Mac 2019, there is a very straightforward approach to importing check data. Literally for the file menu, the path is IMPORT -> TRANSACTIONS -> CHECKS. This selection allows you to copy and paste your information into a form with field headers. moving your columns around in EXCEL, would allow you to simple copy and paste. How is no one from the QB support staff able to reference this on these posts? My reason for replying is that I took a conservative approach to import data - brought in a few hundred transactions and things were golden - yahoo! Then I wrote/printed my first check with QB - things went as expected, but now the import function will not import my check number?
Not sure which version, you are using, but the concept of importing simple CSV or tab-delimited info is there without using WebConnect or IIF - I just do not think QB support knows about it or is able to explain.
Hello there, kane_2.
I appreciate you for reaching out to the Community. I'm here to provide additional clarification with using QuickBooks Desktop.
The import and export process for QuickBooks Desktop for Windows and Mac is different. For users using the Windows version, they can only import list in the CSV format.
For additional insights, I'm adding this article: Import/export CSV files.
If you're now having issues with the import function in the Mac version, I recommend you give us a call. One of our Phone Support Specialists will need to check your program settings and set up to ensure it'll work at its best.

Have you tried Accountant, Batch Enter Transactions? Make your columns match, Choose Checks from the drop down, then just copy and paste from excel into QB.
Accountant does not show up in my tabs.
Hello there, jgaryellison.
The Accountant tab will only show in an accountant versions of QuickBooks desktop. If you're not using an accountant subscriptions, I'd suggest performing the manual importing instead. Let's follow the steps on how to import transactions using the Web Connect Files which my colleague @KristineMae provided above.
Feel free to get back to me if you have additional questions.
I hope this can help someone, since QuickBooks support can only reply with canned answers to everything.
If you are trying to import banking transactions from a bank not supporting QuickBooks integration, then download your transactions from the bank's website using Excel (CSV) format to your downloads folder (each bank has different methods to do this) . There are 3rd party converters (for a small one-time cost) that convert CSV to QBO. (Google CSV to QBO).
Now the tricky part. Over a year ago, in the Bank Feeds page, I created a dummy Wells Fargo Bank account. I selected this account to accept QBO files and assigned them to my actual QuickBooks bank account. Summary 1) Download your actual Bank's CSV files into your computer's download folder. 2) Convert CSV to QBO 3) Under Bank Feeds, import Web Connect file. That goes into my dummy Wells Fargo 4) Wait a bit for QuickBooks to process data, then go to Bank Feeds Center to find transactions imported. Since Wells Fargo is associated with my QuickBooks bank account, the transactions end up there. Again, I do all this because my bank does not support QuickBooks integration.
My problem is that I do not remember how I originally set up my Wells Fargo account! I can't get passed the online username and online password page. I had found the solution through Google over a year ago, but haven't found it again.
I have found many methods to directly import CSV files online, but my 2017 Desktop Pro QuickBooks has no import data button or menu item. I am only talking about bank transactions here.
Can anyone help with this?
Appreciate the complete details of your concern, @ExMiner.
Let me share some information on how QuickBooks Desktop handles importing of your Wells Fargo bank transactions.
To start with, importing your bank transactions into QuickBooks Desktop using CSV file is not yet available. Excel/CSV file can only be use when importing customers, vendors and item lists.
Here's how to connect your Wells Fargo account with QuickBooks:
On the other hand, follow the steps below to import your bank transactions to QuickBooks if your financial institution supports WebConnect (.QBO) file:

There are certain limitations in importing IIF format files. If you have CSV or Excel files, you can opt for 3rd Party Software Solutions.
We would like to recommend "SaasAnt Transactions".It supports CSV, EXCEL files out of the box.
It is good enough to handle 10,000 transactions. Avail the trial offer and explore the possibilities.
My suggestion is to create an easy path to upload a csv file into QB Desktop. If there is software out there as a workaround, Intuit must be intelligent enough to create it for your users. Or just say that you're trying to block us out and force us into QB Online.
Hi @HulaOn.
In QuickBooks, you're only able to import bank transactions with specific file formats. Let me provide them to you.
We want to provide the best product to our customer and ensure their satisfaction. I also personally want to make sure that you receive the best customer service available.
As mentioned by my colleagues above, users are currently unable to import transactions using other file formats. When you import transactions from your bank to QuickBooks Desktop, these are the accepted file formats:

Hello boltonalloys ! Business Importer Desktop app is made to import Excel and CSV files into QuickBooks Desktop. It has 14-days free trial, hope it will help you save your time!
I have the same problem (different bank though) and I tried this (i.e., creating a QBO file on the bank website and then downloading it) but it did not work. I got the following error message with no way to resolve.
"Quickbooks is unable to verify the financial Institution information for this download. Please try again later."
Hello there, @rha9.
When downloading/importing a .QBO file from a your bank's website through Web Connect, you may get this error (Quickbooks is unable to verify the financial Institution information for this download. Please try again later.) if:
To resolve the issue, you can download the file directly from the banks website (outside of QuickBooks).
If the import fails, you may need to duplicate the steps using a sample file. If it works fine, then the issue lies in on your original file. If so, you can start resolving data damage on your company file. However, if it also fails using a sample/test file, you have to contact your financial institution to report the problem and review the .QBO file for errors and self-corrections.
You may check this article for additional reference: Troubleshoot Bank Feeds Web Connect import issues and errors.
Stay posted if you have any other questions about downloading .QBO file to QuickBooks, I'll be always here to help you. Wishing you the best!
You've probably gotten this resolved by now, but there's an app called "Transaction Pro Importer" that enables you to import tons of info from a CSV or excel file to Quickbooks Desktop. The only problem is that it doesn't seem to import into the bank feeds, so you have to classify all of your transactions in excel before you import them. Hope this helps! I also have a client that uses US Bank, and am hoping to find a less manual solution. If I find one, I'll post it here.
