How to import bank transactions using excel.

I am trying to import bank transactions from a bank that does not support Web Connect.

- My bank only allows downloads for Excel, Comma Separated Values, Micrsoft Money, and Quicken. My quickbooks only allows import for IIF File, Quicken, and Web Connect, none of which I have.

I don't not have Quicken or IIF. I only have Excel and Numbers(almost identical program).

Is there any way to download or convert the Excel file so I can import in quickbooks.

I have been at this for MONTHS!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you ever get this problem solved?  I am having the same issue.  The account I need to import has over a thousand transactions.  Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Generally one does not import excel files into quickbooks.

the reason being an excel file needs to be converted into a file Quickbooks
and read..   And in my opinion is not worth the effort, to set up the file the way
QB can import the file.   Of course this applies to accountant, someone who is
IT trained,  i am sure it fairly simple.

Therefore if the volume of transactions is large.   You may need help from an IT person to show you how to import an excel file.

My file is not very large. I don't understand why I am having this issue. I have downloaded IIF trial and that thing is a joke. I only need to import this list of transactions once, so I do not want to spend $100 on a program. Where are all my hackers at? Haha

I have tried to save the file in every way possible. I get the error message below when trying to import:

"QuickBooks was not able to complete your request.
Please contact your financial institution.
(OL-222)"

You're with US Bank, huh?  I hate them.  

There is a way to import large amount of data, once you get used to it, its quick too.

Yes. Client has US bank and I need to get 1099s out, so I don't have time to hand enter a years worth of data.

 

ANy bright ideas?

I hope this can help someone, since QuickBooks support can only reply with canned answers to everything.

If you are trying to import banking transactions from a bank not supporting QuickBooks integration, then download your transactions from the bank's website using Excel (CSV) format to your downloads folder (each bank has different methods to do this) .  There are 3rd party converters (for a small one-time cost) that convert CSV to QBO.  (Google CSV to QBO).

 

Now the tricky part.  Over a year ago, in the Bank Feeds page, I created a dummy Wells Fargo Bank account.  I selected this account to accept QBO files and assigned them to my actual QuickBooks bank account.  Summary 1) Download your actual Bank's CSV files into your computer's download folder. 2) Convert CSV to QBO  3) Under Bank Feeds, import Web Connect file. That goes into my dummy Wells Fargo  4) Wait a bit for QuickBooks to process data, then go to Bank Feeds Center to find transactions imported.  Since Wells Fargo is associated with my QuickBooks bank account, the transactions end up there.  Again, I do all this because my bank does not support QuickBooks integration.

My problem is that I do not remember how I originally set up my Wells Fargo account!  I can't get passed the online username and online password page.  I had found the solution through Google over a year ago, but haven't found it again.

I have found many methods to directly import CSV files online, but my 2017 Desktop Pro QuickBooks has no import data button or menu item.  I am only talking about bank transactions here.

 

Can anyone help with this?

Let me share some information on how QuickBooks Desktop handles importing of your Wells Fargo bank transactions.

 

To start with, importing your bank transactions into QuickBooks Desktop using CSV file is not yet available. Excel/CSV file can only be use when importing customers, vendors and item lists

 

Here's how to connect your Wells Fargo account with QuickBooks:

  1. Go to Banking.
  2. Choose Bank Feeds.
  3. Select Set Up Bank Feeds for an Account.
  4. Enter your bank's name.
  5. On the Link your Accounts screen, select which bank account/s to add to QuickBooks. 
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

On the other hand, follow the steps below to import your bank transactions to QuickBooks if your financial institution supports WebConnect (.QBO) file:

 

Here's how:

  1. Go to the File menu.
  2. Choose Utilities.
  3. Click Import.
  4. Select Web Connect Files.
  5. Choose the QBO file, then click Open.
  6. When prompted to choose bank account, choose Use an existing QuickBooks account if the account is already set up or Create a new QuickBooks account if it's not yet added.
  7. Click Continue.
  8. When you see a window telling you that the data has been successfully read, click OK.

The import and export process for QuickBooks Desktop for Windows and Mac is different. For users using the Windows version, they can only import list in the CSV format.

You attached an article how to import/export csv file but that article only lets you download an exe file which is a Windows file, but you replied to person who was using a Mac. Please update the article.

Yes, there are a couple of ways you can do this by converting the Excel or CSV file (opened in Excel) to another file format.

 

To convert it to an .OFX/.QBO file for import using bank feeds, use our BRC Excel to OFX/QFX/QBO Converter

I use a third party program to convert the file ...

Very easy ... using a program to convert the Quicken file to a QBO file (type of OFX cleaner).

I am not sure if I am allowed to disclose the name of the program ... 

I believe it is worth the extra cost.

I don't know why this works BUT...for Quicken .qfx files, simply download the .qfx file...open with Notepad...scroll down to where you see  "<INTU.BID>4411" (the number 4411 may be different depending on the bank), change the 4 digit number to 3000. Now save the document and change the extension to .qbo and voila! It uploads as a QBO file!

After all these months no answer on this except to buy a 3rd party converter.  It would be good to have some guidance from intuit.
