How to import bank transactions using excel.

I am trying to import bank transactions from a bank that does not support Web Connect.

- My bank only allows downloads for Excel, Comma Separated Values, Micrsoft Money, and Quicken. My quickbooks only allows import for IIF File, Quicken, and Web Connect, none of which I have.

I don't not have Quicken or IIF. I only have Excel and Numbers(almost identical program).

Is there any way to download or convert the Excel file so I can import in quickbooks.

I have been at this for MONTHS!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you ever get this problem solved?  I am having the same issue.  The account I need to import has over a thousand transactions.  Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Generally one does not import excel files into quickbooks.

the reason being an excel file needs to be converted into a file Quickbooks
and read..   And in my opinion is not worth the effort, to set up the file the way
QB can import the file.   Of course this applies to accountant, someone who is
IT trained,  i am sure it fairly simple.

Therefore if the volume of transactions is large.   You may need help from an IT person to show you how to import an excel file.

My file is not very large. I don't understand why I am having this issue. I have downloaded IIF trial and that thing is a joke. I only need to import this list of transactions once, so I do not want to spend $100 on a program. Where are all my hackers at? Haha

I have tried to save the file in every way possible. I get the error message below when trying to import:

"QuickBooks was not able to complete your request.
Please contact your financial institution.
(OL-222)"

You're with US Bank, huh?  I hate them.  

There is a way to import large amount of data, once you get used to it, its quick too.

Yes. Client has US bank and I need to get 1099s out, so I don't have time to hand enter a years worth of data.

 

ANy bright ideas?

I am a little confused - this post is not that old - but nothing from the QB support?  I just purchased QB Desktop for Mac 2019.  I am BRAND NEW to the QB application and need to import only six months of check transactions that are in an EXCEL /CSV  format.  In the QB fDesktop for Mac 2019, there is a very straightforward approach to importing check data.  Literally for the file menu, the path is IMPORT -> TRANSACTIONS -> CHECKS.  This selection allows you to copy and paste your information into a form with field headers.  moving your columns around in EXCEL, would allow you to simple copy and paste.  How is no one from the QB support staff able to reference this on these posts?  My reason for replying is that I took a conservative approach to import data - brought in a few hundred transactions and things were golden - yahoo!  Then I wrote/printed my first check with QB - things went as expected, but now the import function will not import my check number?  

 

Not sure which version, you are using, but the concept of importing simple CSV or tab-delimited info is there without using WebConnect or IIF - I just do not think QB support knows about it or is able to explain.


Have you tried Accountant, Batch Enter Transactions? Make your columns match, Choose Checks from the drop down,  then just copy and paste from excel into QB.

The import and export process for QuickBooks Desktop for Windows and Mac is different. For users using the Windows version, they can only import list in the CSV format.

You attached an article how to import/export csv file but that article only lets you download an exe file which is a Windows file, but you replied to person who was using a Mac. Please update the article.

Yes, there are a couple of ways you can do this by converting the Excel or CSV file (opened in Excel) to another file format.

 

To convert it to an .OFX/.QBO file for import using bank feeds, use our BRC Excel to OFX/QFX/QBO Converter 

 

To convert it to an IIF file to import directly into your bank (or credit card) registers, use our BRC IIF Transaction Creator

I use a third party program to convert the file ...

Very easy ... using a program to convert the Quicken file to a QBO file (type of OFX cleaner).

I am not sure if I am allowed to disclose the name of the program ... 

I believe it is worth the extra cost.

I don't know why this works BUT...for Quicken .qfx files, simply download the .qfx file...open with Notepad...scroll down to where you see  "<INTU.BID>4411" (the number 4411 may be different depending on the bank), change the 4 digit number to 3000. Now save the document and change the extension to .qbo and voila! It uploads as a QBO file!

This discussion is talking about QUICKBOOKS DESKTOP not Quicken

 

After all these months no answer on this except to buy a 3rd party converter.  It would be good to have some guidance from intuit.
