I tried all of the above and was turned away from e-filing my 941 form and I am trying to find out why
I appreciate you for notifying us of your e-filing concern in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), @skautz.
For me to diagnose the issue and provide the most appropriate resolution, I'd like to ask for further details about the problem of being unable to e-file your 941 form.
Could you please provide us with the error message you encountered when attempting to e-file your form in QBDT? Also, may I ask which quarter you need to file your 941? You're also welcome to attach screenshots so we can have a visual reference of the error.
We're looking forward to hearing from you, @skautz. Just leave your reply below, and we'll get back immediately to respond. Stay safe, and have a nice day ahead!
How do i retrieve my 10 digit pin number to file 941 electronically? It used to be stored and now it is no longer there.
Hello there, @BCJNews. I'm here to ensure you'll get to retrieve your 10-digit PIN to e-file Form 941.
If you're e-filing in QBDT, your PIN will automatically appear if you've set it up already. However, if you're using a new company file or haven't set up the PIN, you'll be prompted to enter a 10-digit PIN to e-file.
You'll need to contact the IRS for a PIN reset, as it is missing or lost. Kindly follow the steps below to initiate the process:
Please note to keep a copy of it for future reference to avoid losing it again.
Make sure to download and use the payroll tax table in QuickBooks to avoid any disruptions while processing your E-file/E-pay.
Once all set, you can easily file your forms in QuickBooks. Read this article for reference: E-file and e-pay federal forms and taxes in QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Enhanced.
Drop by again if you have further questions or need assistance with other QuickBooks concerns. I'm here to assist you. Stay safe!
If I (my office) is registered with e-file for filing tax returns do I have to reregister to file payroll 941s?
Hello there, Gail. I'll shed some light on how filing federal forms works in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
If you have registered or enrolled in the IRS e-file program, and have already set up to pay and file federal forms in the QBDT Payroll Enhanced subscription, then you don't have to re-register to e-file the 941 forms.
All you need to do is follow Step 3: E-file your federal forms section of this article to file Form 941: E-file and e-pay federal forms and taxes in QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Enhanced.
Furthermore, please note that we pay and file your federal and state taxes for you if you use QBDT Payroll Assisted.
Additionally, check out this article to learn more about viewing your payroll tax payments and forms in QBDT: View your previously filed tax forms and payments.
Let me know if you have other filing form concerns or other questions about QuickBooks. I'll be around to provide the information you need. Have a great day!
I have E-Filed my Federal Form 941 for the 4th Qrt of 2023. I have a tracking number from QB from January 4, 2024 however it has nothing else. There is nothing showing except that QB's has been "Submitted to Intuit". Normally I get an update within 3-4 days, should I be concerned that the form is lost or continue to be patient.
Good afternoon, @DEY86.

I want to choose the option to report as REPORTING AGENT...but that is not even an option under the change filing method window. How can I retrieve that option to file as reporting agent?
I can help you file as a reporting agent, @GingerTexas.
You can go to the Payroll Center to access the File Forms tab to access the form with the For Reporting Agents in the title. You can prepare and submit Forms 941, 944, or 940 payroll tax forms on behalf of your client from QuickBooks.
Here's how:
Refer to the following article for more information about e-filing federal payroll tax returns as an accountant on behalf of your clients, check out this article: E-file payroll tax forms for your clients.
Furthermore, here's how you can find the form and check the status of your payroll tax filing and tax payment: Check e-file or e-pay status.

@MJoy_D , my issue is that the reporting agent form is not listed anywhere on the forms tab...or in the add new forms list. When I go to change filing method, the normal selection that asks if you are filing as reporting agent is not there, only the option to print or e-file. We just upgraded to 2024 Accountant's QBD and we were able to e-file as reporting agent the last quarter. Not sure what changed when we upgraded.
Good evening, @GingerTexas.
It's great to see you back in the Community! Let's work together to figure out why this is happening in your account after upgrading.
To clarify, did you use the steps listed in this article to set up e-filing? Set up Federal e-file and e-pay in QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Enhanced.
