I am trying to print and file Form 941 for 2nd Quarter of 2021 and get the error message below:
Form 941: Employer Identification Number- Form 941 is a draft form and is not to be filed with the IRS. Final form will be available in a later release
When is this later release available? What do I do in the meantime? Is anyone else having this issue and know what I need to do?
Let's make sure you'll be able to file and print your taxes for the 2nd Quarter, cfdc.
You'll have to ensure to keep your software and payroll updated so you'll have the latest features and fixes. To get payroll updates, follow the steps below.
Once done, double-check if you're already able to file the form. Sometimes, you'll encounter this error if QuickBooks is having an update. If you're still getting the same error, you'll want to file the form on the EFTPS website. To prepare and print Form 941, Schedule B, and Form 940, you can read through this article: Prepare your forms, and print and save them. Also, you can find information on the latest payroll update as well as earlier release updates: Find recent payroll updates.
Also, see this article for your future reference in preparing Form 941: How QuickBooks populates the 941.
Let us know if you have any other concerns about filing 941 forms. We'll always be right here to help.
I have downloaded the entire payroll update, confirmed that the release says it includes changes to the 941. However, when I prepare the 941, I too get the "draft form - IRS will not accept..." message.
When will Intuit have a Q2 2021 941 able to be populated in QuickBooks. Your work-around is unacceptable!

Just got off the phone with Intuit - form is not available yet (even though 6/24 updates does say that the 941 was updated). I was told that form is still in Engineering, and they do not have a release date yet, but said we would receive an email and there will be a notification in QuickBooks when the new form is available.
I agree with the other 2 people having this problem. Payroll updates have been done and the form will not print a final version.
You cannot file a 941 form on EFTPS!!
Hopefully we will be able to print Q2 Form 941 from Quickbooks soon.
I agree with the other 2 people asking the question. Payroll updates are applied and Form 941 is still not final in Quickbooks.
Hopefully we will be able to prepare Q2 Form 941 from Quickbooks soon....as I just paid my annual subscription...which was higher again!!
FYI...you cannot file form 941 from EFTPS!!
So NOW it says. IMPORTANT: should be updated on 7/1/21 It wasn't there earlier obviously since that would of answered all our questions
should of been fixed so we didnt have go to the IRS website to get the forms and fill them out, will wait till tomorrow to see if its fixed
When will the final version be available to send to my client to sign? This is crazy. It says 7/1/2021 it will be updated but I can't get it to be signed. I do not understand this feature where QB send the forms Automatically. You should not be doing any such thing other then making the form available. I have to apply to electronically send and a pin which I am in the process but in the meantime need to get signatures from clients that drag their feet. WHEN WILL THE FORM BE READY!!!!!
Just like the other comments. QB is sleeping on the job again - not ready to file quarterlies, YET. But no word on when YET is, true to form QB, keep up the substandard work :(
Time to search a good software alternative, I here that Sage/peachtree is much more user friendly/
Its 7/1/21 the start of the third quarter. The form is still not available and that is unacceptable. QB costs accountants too much money to have this level of poor service. You try to get help and you have over an hour wait. Why do they increase fees every year and service gets worse.
So what is up with this? The form says "Form 941 is currently available as a draft due to pending final changes from the IRS. You will not be able to file this version of the form. The Final 941 will be available for filing after getting a payroll update on 07/01/2021." So it's 8:53 AM CDT 07/01/2021 and I just got the latest update, but it still returns the DRAFT error. So when will the update be added, Intuit? Intuit, hello? Is there anybody in there, is there anyone home? Is there a holiday in some third world country such that a developer cannot do a commit to the database?
QB support said the form would be ready today 7/1. I have updated QB and restarted everything and the form still gives the same error message! QB please let us know when the form will actually be updated, not just a fake date that you give us.
Hello everyone!
I know that you need Form 941 as soon as possible. Let me help you.
I've confirmed that the latest payroll update (22112) doesn't include yet the final Form 941. The accuracy is still being validated due to some changes on the said form. However, once it's ready, there'll a pop-up on your QuickBooks Desktop to inform you that you can now download and install it.
Please check these links for your reference about payroll updates. These will also show you the steps on how to download it:
Our Payroll Experts are working already so they can release it as soon as possible.
For Assisted payroll subscribers, I recommend reaching out to our Support Team so they can further assist you with it.
I've added an article for more info about payroll tax filing: What filing periods (years and quarters) are available in the Payroll Tax Center?.
Keep on posting here if you have additional questions. We'll respond as soon as we can.
Alex, any "good" explanation for the delay. Seems like we're all paying for a product that is not being delivered.
Same problem here... Got the entire payroll update, and still getting the same message.
When will this form be available???
Agree! I would love to know why the form is not ready either. I understand it was just released 6/24/21 as a draft by the IRS, however, on the IRS website is no longer in draft status it is fully released. Always delays!
The 941 is available now. Do another payroll update, and the form should be good to go.
When will it be ready? Don't need big explanation, finger pointing, and work arounds. Just need date when we can expect form to be available, PLEASE?
What does as soon as possible mean, 1 hour or 1 week, give us some time frame please Alex
just tried, still no go
I had to update twice and could then submit the 941, but now I am getting payroll update error messages for the WR30 and cannot file that. Their fix caused another problem.
I appreciate the troubleshooting steps you've taken, ptheo.
Since you're getting the payroll update error messages, I would suggest reaching out to our Payroll Support Team to have this better checked.
Here's how:
I've added an article for more information about payroll updates: Latest payroll news and updates.
Please let me know if there's anything you need help with QuickBooks. I'll be happy to work with you anytime. Have a good one!
nevermind
Hello all,
I came to see why I couldn't file my 941 and am getting the same error.
I, too am disgusted at the level of ineptitude shown by our chosen accounting software. I am still unable to file the form. Here is a fillable PDF from IRS.gov that I can at least mail. I used the numbers from QB from the (unsubmitted) 941.
https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f941.pdf
This is not by far an acceptable solution, but for those who can't wait for the fix from intuit, it's available.
