Cannot file Q2 2021 Form 941

941 Form for the 2nd Quarter 2021 doesn't even appear in my payroll forms "to be filed." I've checked my updated and it says its there, and it's not.  Of course, you cannot speak to anyone on a weekend.  I'm so sick of this crap.  Not to mention QB does not work with (locks up) when I try to use Adobe PRO DC while it's open.

Cannot file Q2 2021 Form 941

Hi, atsportables.

As referenced by my previous peers, our Payroll Team is still validating the forms due to its changes to ensure it's up-to-date so you stay compliant with the government.

While we're working as quickly as possible to launch the final form, you may download the latest tax table on QuickBooks Desktop.

This process is a good start when it comes to fixing payroll form-related issues as well as helps synchronize the updates.

Additionally, I'll be sharing with you this write-up: Payroll 101. It contains more information about the different types of compensation as well as on what are the types of federal forms you need to file. Also, this will provide you a sample breakdown of a paycheck.

I appreciate your patience while we're working on this. If you have any other issues or concerns, please let me know by dropping a comment below. I'm always here to help. Have a lovely week ahead!

Cannot file Q2 2021 Form 941

I was able to e-file client's 941s until we updated to QuickBooks Desktop 2021.  Why am I not able to select change filing methods - efile?

I'm here to ensure you're able to e-file your client's 941 forms, @TannerClose

If the Filing Method options for E-file are missing, I recommend downloading the latest tax table and update QuickBooks Desktop to its latest release. This process helps fix some payroll form-related issues as well as helps synchronize the updates.

Then, proceed to the steps on how to change the filing method of the Federal forms to E-file:

  1. Select the Employees menu and then choose Payroll Center.
  2. Open the QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Setup, and go to the File Forms tab.
  3. Under Other Activities, click Change Filing Method.
  4. In the QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Setup, click Continue.
  5. Choose Federal Form 940 from the list of forms, and then select Edit.
  6. In the Filing Method options, choose E-file and then click Finish.
  7. Check if the filing method of your Federal Form 940, 941, and 944 is already E-File and select Continue.

For more information, please see this article: Set up your Federal Forms 940, 941, and 944 for e-file in QuickBooks Desktop.

Lastly, open this resource to help you E-file 941 tax forms: E-file 940, 941, and 944 forms in QuickBooks Desktop.

Cannot file Q2 2021 Form 941

Sure is crazy that I post here and get 25 responses to something that was just as simple as the IRS had not released the form when I posted this question, but I have a 3 month ongoing issue and I can't seem to get ANYONE to follow up and have spent 45 hours on the phone to still not have it resolved.

I have an accountant license and the names authorized to use the account in camps are not the names when you open the desktop version in the payroll function so I can't manage any of my 60 accounts and no one can seem to fix it and I have a client that wants to switch their direct deposit account. I have filled out the form and submitted it but QuickBooks could not change it.

YOU HAVE THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH. I am looking into another payroll platform because you are the absolute worst and I will never recommend you to anyone. Who allows a customer to go 3 months and never follow up on a case number and every time I call in I have to start over with a new representative. I am promised call backs and no one ever calls me back.

Is there any update on the fix for this?  I tried to file the 941 quarterly + schedule B today (21st July 2021).  I too am getting do not file draft message.  I have completed a full manual update in help, shut my QB desktop down & then restarted.  I still get the same message.  I see the recommendation is to do it manually on a handwritten form but that is just not do-able when having to also complete the schedule b.  Any suggestions/updates would be most welcome as the deadline is fast approaching to file.

I appreciate you asking for an update about the issue on this thread, KJS.

The steps provided by the previous representatives on this thread are the common ways to issues when filing forms like the 941 in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Since you're still getting the message after completing the manual update, I suggest reaching out to our QuickBooks Care Team. This situation requires a thorough investigation so they can identify the cause and help you file your 941 on time.

Here's how to connect with us:

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Select Help from the top menu bar, then go to QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Click Contact Us.
  4. Enter a brief description of your concern, then select Continue.
  5. Choose Start messaging or Get a callback from the next available expert.

I encourage checking our support hours first to ensure that we address your concerns on time.

I've also added these articles to help you guide with the Form filling of 941 and its deadlines:

I'm always here to provide help and answer any questions that you may have while filling your forms. Have a great rest of the day!

YOu clearly did not read my last reply. I HAVE DONE ALL MY 941's I DO NOT NEED HELP WITH THAT.

I commented on how fast Quickbooks helps you here but when you call in they never follow up because they have the worst customer service I have ever encountered from any company.

I have had an open case since April regarding managing my payroll accounts and not being able to access them.

I am sick of getting messages about the 941. NOthing was wring except the IRS had not released it yet and now it has

I miss Sage.  Used it for 30 years.  Only changed because our CPA uses quickbooks.

KJS sent me a reply about this same topic (can't find it now), which does not work.  Part of it says to go to the "File Forms Tab" under Other Activities in Payroll Setup -- There is no File Forms Tab or Other Activities. Furthermore, I already did the update of the tax tables  - multiple times - and still no Form 941 for second quarter. THIS IS BS.  Is there going to be a work around that works? Still waiting. And, of course, I have no way of replying to KJS because its a "no reply" email address.

I'd be glad to help you today, @atsportables.

I recommend performing the verify and rebuild troubleshooting to scan your data. This will help QuickBooks identify and self-resolve potential data integrity issues.

To verify data:

  1. Select Window then Close All.
  2. Go to File then Utilities. Choose Verify Data.

To rebuild data:

  1. Go to FileUtilities then select Rebuild Data.
  2. Choose where you want to save your backup.
  3. The Rebuild Data utility starts as soon as the backup is finished.
  4. Hit OK when you see "Rebuild has completed".

For the detailed steps, you can review this article: Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop.

If the issue persists, you can contact Payroll Support. This way, we can look into it further and see how we can help you from here.

Feel free to leave a comment below if you have further questions. Take care!

Thanks for taking the time to post here and letting us know what's going on, @Wdlowe.

Reverting to file back your Quarter 2 941 forms is unavailable. Since you're unable to file the forms, you'll have to go to the IRS website and manually fill out a 941 return. This way you can print or download the form then mail it to the Federal Agency.

Here's how:

  1. Go to this link: https://www.irs.gov/forms-instructions
  2. In the Search field, enter 941.
  3. Tap the form on the result to open a PDF 941 file.
  4. Enter the information manually then use the Download or Print option.

Also, please check these links for your reference about payroll updates. These process is a good start when it comes to fixing payroll form-related issues as well as helps synchronize the updates.

I've also added a link that explains the equivalent of each line in the report and its deadlines:

Additionally, I'll be sharing with you this write-up: Payroll 101. It contains more information about the different types of compensation as well as on what are the types of federal forms you need to file.

If you have any further questions about filing payroll forms in QuickBooks, please tag me anytime. I'm always right here to help you, @Wdlowe.
