Deleting a Direct Deposit payroll transaction by mistake

I deleted the liability check recording our Direct Deposit payroll transaction created yesterday by mistake.  Is this going to prevent the pay from being deposited into the employees accounts?  And how do I get it recorded again - it is done automatically by QB after sending the DD.

Deleting a Direct Deposit payroll transaction by mistake

To give you an insight, you can void the paycheck processed through direct deposit in QuickBooks. However, depending on your processing time, the debit from your bank account for payroll taxes and direct deposit may not be stopped.

For QuickBooks Desktop, you'll have a 2-day lead time normally. Thus, you'll need to submit payroll by 5:00 PM PST 2 business days before payday.

After you’ve submitted payroll, you can still void or add paychecks up to 4:59 PM PST that day. After 5:00 PM, payroll begins processing and cannot be stopped.

You can check the status of the payroll to see if it's voided. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Employees menu, then My Payroll Service.
  2. Select Account/Billing Information, then sign in using your Intuit Account Login
  3. Click View Payroll Activity in the direct deposit section.
  4. Enter your Direct Deposit PIN.
  5. Look for the payroll transmission.

If it's voided/deleted, you'll need to reprocess the direct deposit to pay your employees.

There is no View Payroll Activity to click on.  I can't see anywhere that I can look at the payroll transmission.

I appreciate you for going through the steps shared by my colleague above, @Jill57.

Allow me to chime in and share additional insights on how to get around this issue. Let’s update your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) software and download the latest tax table to isolate this. This way, we can ensure your program is up to date with the latest features and fixes.

Once done, perform the steps again shared by my peer katherinejoyceO above. If the issue persists after updating QBDT and your tax table, I recommend running the Verify Rebuild utility tool. This scans your company file for issues and resolved them right away. Let me show you how:

To Verify:

  1. Go to the Window menu.
  2. Select Close All.
  3. Navigate to the File menu.
  4. Select Utilities.
  5. Click Verify Data.

To Rebuild:

  1. Go to the File menu.
  2. Select Utilities.
  3. Click Rebuild Data.

You can also check this article for more details about the process: Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop.

It’s also great to invite your employees’ to the workforce so they can view their paychecks online. To be guided about this process, check out this article for reference: Invite your employees to QuickBooks Workforce to see pay stubs, W-2s and more.

Keep me in the loop if you need further assistance managing your direct deposits. You’re always welcome to share them with me. Stay safe and keep well.
