Hello,
I want to print and mail 1099's manually. I have the forms with me. I see the option "Print and mail manually" Do I have to pay the $58 just to print the 1099s?????
Hi, @Evan03.
I'll share with you some learning about 1099 forms in QuickBooks Online.
Yes, you'll need to pay $58 to print and mail the 1099 form. The reason why you'll need to pay because the form is already pre-printed. Also, the form size is 8 1/2" x 11" that includes compatible double-window envelopes with size 5 5/8'' x 8 3/4". For more information, check out this article: Create and file 1099s using QuickBooks Online. Directly go to number 7 in Step 3.
But if you don't want to cost anything, I'd suggest printing the plain 1099 form on the IRS website. Please click these links below to print the form and complete instructions.
After that, run a vendor reports, so you have a reference in mapping the accounts. For more details, check out this article: Create a 1099 report for vendors and vendor payments.
Once everything is good, you can now mail the form to IRS. Please note that the filing due date for 1099-NEC is February 1, 2021.
I've also added articles on how to troubleshoot printing issues in pre-printed forms: How do I print my 1099 forms?. Please proceed to Step 2.
Please let me know in the comment section if you have other concerns. I’m just a post away. Take care!
Hi Michelle,
Thanks for your response however, I bought the 1099 and 1096 forms and envelopes already (through amazon). I did not order the forms through Quickbooks. All I need is to print the 1099 info from quickbooks. I don't need the forms as I have them already. Why do I have to pay $58 when all I need is to print?
I've got your back, Evan03.
The $58.99 is for the 1099 kits starting at 10 forms and their made-to-fit envelopes. Since you already ordered a form from Amazon, let's make sure to set up the alignment when printing 1099s.
Here are the steps:

I am a bookkeeper with multiple clients. I have run into a problem printed 1099-NEC with a couple of different clients with different versions of QBs desktop (2019 & either 2020 or 2021(I can't remember on that one). When I first went to print the 1099-NEC they were formatted to 2 to a page not the new format of 3 to a page. When I ran an update, I could no longer print or preview 1099-NEC. I could print the 1096 but not the 1099s. I also had an issue with a client on a MAC that the format was also 2 to a page.
How do I get the format to be the new 3 to a page?
RSBOS
I can see that you're having issues with your clients different QuickBooks Desktop versions about printing the 3 to a page 1099-NEC, @RSBOS.
I'd be delighted to help you and your clients get the 3 to page 1099-NEC form. Before running into the steps below, I recommend updating QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release and downloading the most recent taxable to ensure it will work fine. Also, make sure you are checking the Critical Fixes box. Then please follow these steps:
When prompted, click Yes to accept the option to install the new release.
That should enable you to print 3 to a page for 1099 NEC in QuickBooks Desktop.
For QuickBooks Desktop Mac users, if the 1099-NEC forms are not printing 3 to a page, I recommend contacting our Support Team. Our representatives can take a look at the problem and help provide further troubleshooting to help them have the updated 3 to a page 1099-NEC form. I followed the steps but no vendors come up. It says none meet the threshold but that is not true. How do I get it to pull in the information? I have mapped the vendors that need a 1099 but they will not come up - it just says none meet the criteria. HELP!!! Even my accountant could not figure it out?
Hi there, Cynthia M.
Thank you for reaching out to the Community. There can be a couple of reasons for this. Only vendors you paid by cash or check will be reported with the threshold payments total of $600 or more. If you have vendor payments like credit, debit, or gift card, and payment networks like PayPal, then these payments are excluded in the 1099 form.
Also, I suggest checking the mapped accounts in the 1099 Wizard. Before that, you'll need to run a Transaction List by Vendor report to check what accounts linked to the transactions for missing vendor.
Please check this article:1099 Troubleshooting. And, go to 1099 vendor is not showing on the list when preparing 1099s to see the steps on how to run Transaction List by Vendor report.
You can open this article to view details on which payments are not included in the 1099 forms: Understand which payments are excluded from a 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC.

The direct answer to this thread is still not addressed. Does QB charge to print 1099s?
It is misleading to have a button to press that states a costs to print if it is only charging for the kits. The layout has changed since the 2021 tax season.
In the 2021 tax season there was not a charge listed and we small business owners could print 1099s for contractors without fear a charge. Has that changed for the 2022 tax season?
These steps DO NOT show how to change the format from printing 2 1099s per sheet to 3 1099s per sheet. Last tax season you could choose to use one of two formats. Why was this feature removed?

Hi Maybell_S,
I know the steps that need to be taken to print and mail my 1099s. And I know my deadlines.
I already have my 1099 forms and 2022 tax year there was not a price over the button used to “print 1099s”. This format make is appear that I have to pay to print my 1099 forms.
Does it cost to print 1099s this year?
Also, why am I only allowed to print on forms 1099 that have 2 boxes not 3? Last year it could be switched. This year there is no place to change the option. Why?
