Hello,
I'm hoping someone from the Intuit Online Payroll team can answer a couple of questions about a confusing email we received regarding retirement of IOP and migration to QBOP Core. Please note I have read the Community Posts about this migration and am not looking to be redirected back to boilerplate articles about the IOP retirement and transition to QBOP Core. I am trying to get specific answers to questions below about the contradictory email we just received, so that we can ensure this transition does not cause a disruption in paying our employees.
One June 1, we received an email titled "Your Intuit Online Payroll Subscription". At the very top of the email, it says "Exciting changes are coming to your Payroll subscription No action required. Changes begin July 12, 2021". The email then goes on to say "As a valued Intuit customer, we wanted to make sure you knew about the upcoming changes to your Intuit Online Payroll subscription, effective on or after July 12, 2021. We are retiring Intuit Online Payroll and moving you to a better payroll service — more modern, with more features, and better ongoing development support. For most customers, the transition is completely seamless and takes under a minute."
Since the email leads with "No Action required", then says "We (Intuit) are retiring Intuit Online Payroll and moving you to a better payroll service", and that "the transition is completely seamless and takes under a minute", I interpret all of this to mean we do not have to do anything, and that sometime on or after July 12, Intuit will migrate us over to the from IOP to QBOP Core.
However, further down in the email, it says "You can decide the right time to move, based on your business needs. Between now and July 12, 2021, simply log into your Intuit Online Payroll account and start the process to move your payroll to QuickBooks Online Core"
If we need to "log into your Intuit Online Payroll account and start the process", then this directly contradicts the statement "No action required", that "We (Intuit) are retiring Intuit Online Payroll and moving you to a better payroll service", and that "the transition is completely seamless and takes under a minute".
So, our first question is - What, if anything, do we need to do to to transition from IOP to QBOP Core.
If in fact we do need to do something related to this migration, that raises a second question. The email says "You can decide the right time to move, based on your business needs. Between now and July 12, 2021, simply log into your Intuit Online Payroll account and start the process to move your payroll to QuickBooks Online Core". However, when we log in to IOP, there is no reference on the home page or anywhere else in the product to this migration process. So, if we do in fact need to "simply log into your Intuit Online Payroll account and start the process to move your payroll to QuickBooks Online Core", where in IOP do we "start the process to move your payroll to QuickBooks Online Core".
Thanks.
I appreciate the detailed information, Brothersbr. Let me ease your confusion.
The "No action required" is for you not to reply to the email anymore. We're just updating you about the migration.
With regards to the migration, you'll have to manually export the payroll data to QuickBooks Online.
For the detailed steps, feel free to check this article: Setup export of IOP data to QuickBooks Online (QBO).
If you have additional questions, please don't hesitate to click the Reply button below. We'll reply as soon as we can.
Hello @Kristine Mae ,
Thanks for your reply, but it does not answer our questions. Please re-read my original questions.
As you can see, we are not trying to export IOP to QBO. We don't currently use QBO and are not planning to use QBO for accounting.
Our questions below are about the process for IOP being retired and us being moved to QBOP Core, which Intuit states is a standalone, full service payroll system that can be used with many different accounting systems.
The email we received says Intuit will be moving us on or after July 12, and the process is "seamless and takes under a minute". What, if anything do we need to do to migrate from IOP to QBOP Core? The response you provided below about exporting from IOP to QBO is not relevant here, as we are not trying to do that.
Thanks for getting back to us, @Brothersbr. Allow me to chime in and share additional details about the migration process from IOP to QBOP.
To continue using a payroll account, two options may help you. The process for most customers will take less than 60 seconds, but no more than a few minutes. However, you may want to give yourself a little extra time when you first sign in. All your data will be there but how you work with it will be a little different.
To get started, if you already have a QBOP account, I'd recommend continuing to use the standalone. Let's try to login into QuickBooks to verify if you now have an account since you've checked the box to move over to QBO Payroll.
Here's how:
You may visit this page for more details about payroll transition: Move from Intuit Online Payroll to QuickBooks Online Payroll Core.
For option 2:
If you don't have a QBOP account yet, you have an alternative to subscribing to QuickBooks Desktop Payroll (QBDT). Then export your IOP data to your new account. This way, your accounting and payroll data are united in one program.
To start, let's purchase a payroll account first, then activate it. After that, you can now set up the Export Preference to start exporting the data.
Setting up QBDT Payroll:
Then, you can now activate it by following the steps in this article: Activate QuickBooks Desktop Payroll. Once done, set up the Export Preference to automatically flow the data in IOP to QBOP. You can click on this article to see the process: Setup export of IOP data to QuickBooks Online (QBO).
However, I still suggest contacting our QuickBooks Payroll Support Team. They have the tools to pull your account and discuss the migration process of payroll data.
Here's how to contact them:
You can browse this article to learn more about the different types of support we offer at Intuit and its availability: Support hours and types.
Additionally, I've added awesome articles about handling your payroll accounts and other related topics.
I'm always here to help if you have any other concerns or questions. Just tag my name in the comment section and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
Hello @JoesemM
Thanks for your reply. I think you are a step ahead of us - as you can see from my original message, we have not migrated yet or "checked the box". When we log in to IOP, there is nothing about transition to QBOP Core or any box to check - hence our confusion and original reason for starting this post.
We received the email from Intuit on June 1, and it says "Between now and July 12, 2021, simply log into your Intuit Online Payroll account and start the process to move your payroll to QuickBooks Online Core"
When we log in to IOP, there is no mention of moving to QBOP Core . Where in IOP do we check the box to begin the migration? There is no box or mention of migrating when we log-in to IOP.
Thanks
Thanks for the clarification, Brothersbr.
I can walk you through exporting your payroll service from IOP to QBO. Just ensure that you have a QuickBooks Online subscription since selecting the account is part of the process. Before we start, also make sure that you have a supported and up-to-date browser. Then, you can follow the detailed steps in this article on what needs to be set up in QBO and on how to start the process of migration: Setup export of IOP data to QuickBooks Online (QBO).
If you're unsure about the migration process and on what to select, you can reach out to our Phone Support Team. They have the tools to have a remote session with you and can closely look into your payroll setup.
Just let me know if you have other questions. Have a good one!
Hello, I've been on 7 different quickbooks chats today and have received no help whatsoever. I DID do the migration, I found a link when I logged into my intuit online payroll from with my quickbooks desktop. My issue is that now I can no longer access my payroll/taxes from within my quickbooks desktop, but instead have to open a browser and go to qbo.intuit.com. Why is that??? How can I export payroll or taxes paid if my quickbooks desktop is not synched with the core system? Now when I go into intuit online payroll from within my desktop, it says i no longer have an account. I am so very frustrated because nobody has been able to help me or even understand what I'm talking about. I think this rollout is a mess! I'm begging for help please!
I agree - this support STINKS. Huge waste of time to get wrong answers, no answers or answers to different questions than the ones asked.
Simply AWFUL!
Has anyone been able to resolve this issue? I have been using the Intuit Online Payroll for year and signed in on Tuesday to compete the migration. After briefly having access, I tried to run my payroll and was given an error message and encouraged to log out and then sign back in. I have been unable to gain access since then and conversations with support are like talking to a 1st grader. No, I don't need to reset my password, I know how to clear cache/cookies and have used 3 different browsers across 5 different computers...it still DOESN'T WORK!!!
I get kicked out of chats and cannot find a phone number to save my life. I was seriously about purchase the Quickbooks Online but I am rethinking that because there is no effective support.

Since you're still getting the same problem, I’d recommend contacting our Technical Support Team. A specialist will look up your account and further assist you via a secured remote access session.

Visit us here if you need a hand with managing your account or any QuickBooks-related questions or concerns. I'll be here to ensure your success. Keep safe always.
Well, that information would be helpful if I could login to my account...you see unless I am logged in to the QBO system, I do not those options...why can't your support team get its act together and fix the issue. They have my ticket and keep asking me if it has been resolved??? Aren't they supposed to know when it is resolved or not...
Thank you for the prompt reply. I'm here to help out and point you in the right direction for support, @stratagema.
Since you're unable to log in to your account, you can use this Contact Us page to connect with our Technical Support team. Be advised, they're available 6 am to 6 pm PST, Mondays to Fridays. Don't hesitate to post a reply if you have other questions about QuickBooks Online or the payroll service you have. I'll be sure to get back to you. Have a great weekend!
I have contacted your so called tech support 4-5 times for 3-4 hours total. They were worthless in assisting me and all could say in the end was that they were forwarding the issue to the Engineering Team. I have very little faith in your products right now. This has been a known issues over 2 months ago, according to the community. It may be rare but your people should know what to do...pathetic
Our company is going thru the same thing for over three weeks. We have chatted and talked to 17 support people so far. Our password has been changed several times. Another community member suggested setting up a company name for a trial version of online quickbooks. From here you can get to the help menu and to the talk to a human option. This has not helped us either. We have two case numbers and our issue is under investigation. Have been hung up on several times by chat and by phone. This is so frustrating. We have missed one payroll and are going to have a second one this week. We have an insurance audit coming up for workmen's comp and can not get to our payroll records to complete it. It will soon be the end of the month for doing monthly tax deposits. No one seems to care. Quickbooks support use to be great! Not any more. I have had support tell me that they would keep us updated to let us know how our case is progressing. Yet to happen! Have been told that there were over 100 investigations going on for the same issue. Before putting companies in this position, quickbooks should have all the problems solved. We could have still been using our intuit payroll until the quickbooks core was ready to go. If anyone has had the issue solved, please share now it was done.
"Exciting changes" - if you call a fee increase exciting.
The email is wrong. It says to visit account and settings and select Billing & Subscription. As Intuit should know, Billing & Subscription do not exist in my account. It's actually this and none of them provide any option to convert. Where did you others find the magic convert button?

Well although I can't speak for your issue, we were finally able to figure out ours. With the help of a very committed tech name Allen Adrian, we determined that during the IOP to QBO merge, my Intuit login was the issue. I have used Quicken for years but thought I had already kept it separate but somehow this integration cause my business account login to be revert back to an old email address and password that haven't used in many years. I had even changed my personal Quicken login since then but somehow the system saw my attempts to login from the business side as being an unauthorized user. Needless to say, after many attempts, password changes, and a lot of frustration, we finally cracked the code and got in. Once we were in the system, we strip out the personal emails and login, designated the business accounts emails, and gave access. Worked like a charm since then. Hope this helps! Cheers!
Hi there, TheMaximus.
I'm here to clarify and give more details about the migration process from Intuit Online Payroll(IOP) to QuickBooks Payroll Core(QBOP).
The instruction on the email is after you have moved to QBOP Core. You can visit Accounts and Settings to upgrade, manage, or cancel your subscription. Since we will be retiring the IOP soon. You'll have the option to move between now or after the date provided in the email. If you want to migrate now. I'll show you how.
Set up a connection to QuickBooks Online:
Set up accounts in your Intuit Online Payroll account:
If you don't want to move now. we will be moving you to QBOP. You just need to go to qbo.intuit.com and use the same user ID and password you’ve always used. You can bookmark this page to make it easier for you to sign in.
For your reference, you can check this resource here: Setup export of IOP data to QuickBooks Online (QBO). This provides detailed instruction on how to move from IOP to QBOP.
In addition, you can review the helpful materials below to learn more about processing payroll and some other payroll tasks:
I'll be right here to continue helping if you need further assistance with the new payroll system. Assistance is just a post away. Have a great day!
As I mentioned before (and you should already know), there is no "Accounts and Settings" in IOP. There are three choices under the heading "Billing and Service", none of which provide any option to upgrade or change the subscription plan.

Cancel Service
Review Service Agreement
This was confirmed in a customer services chat that there was no ability for me to "upgrade" at this time (contrary to your instructions and the email I received from Intuit).
I do not want to wait until the auto-switch because I assume that will also fail at that time and then I'll be locked out of payroll as others on these boards have experienced.
I have followed your export instructions and either it is taking a VERY long time to export, or the export failed. I will leave it alone and see if it eventually completes. Based on your instructions, I assume it is stuck and not working because I only got to the password setup and then it hangs with a circle going round and round and no further progress after that.
Hello there, @TheMaximus. I appreciate you for getting back and following the instructions shared above.
I can see the effort and time you've exhaust to get all these things done. Yes, you're right that the Account and Settings option is not available in the Intuit Online Payroll. This can only be seen using a QuickBooks Online account.
When you're done exporting the payroll data, you go to the Account and Settings suing QuickBooks Online account where you can manage your subscription status, as my colleagues shared above. Also, I would like to ask if you encounter any error messages when doing the export process? I would appreciate if you can include it.
Since everything seems not to work after the password setup, we can perform some basic troubleshooting steps. Unexpected behaviors can be brought about by problems in the web pages. If you haven't tried using a private browser, I recommend accessing your account from there. This method prevents cookies from being stored on your computer, making it a great place to identify browser problems.
Use any of these keyboard shortcuts depending on the browser you're using:
If it works, clear the browser's cache. This removes the history or logs files so you can start with a clean slate. Also, you can use other supported browsers. Still, you can check this article for more details and tips about setting up export of IOP data to QuickBooks Online (QBO): Overview.
Please let me know how it goes. The Community is here if you need additional assistance.
All signs point to an Intuit problem, not a browser problem. The export was attempted on Firefox regular, Firefox private, MS Edge regular, and MS Edge private, all with the same result.
First, the system fails to recognize the login I have established and "reset" multiple times, so it makes me set up a password again. From there, it gets stuck on the next step, "Set up Quickbooks Online to sync with your payroll account", with an endlessly spinning circle and no progress beyond that.
I now have Quickbooks Online Payroll as a standalone product..... It also shows up in my Quickbooks Online Bookkeeping product.
Am I paying for QBO Payroll as a standalone and as part of my QBO Bookeeping?
Hi there, smithpa3.
Welcome back to the QuickBooks Community. I'll provide some information about subscriptions in QuickBooks Online. Then, guide you on how to find the history of your payment for a subscription.
Since Intuit Online Payroll will be retiring and you'll move to QuickBooks Online Payroll, all your data will still remain intact. However, the interface may vary or different. Also, this service will be connected directly as part of your QuickBooks account.
I suggest going to the Billing & Subscription page and review your subscription rates and charges within your account. That way, you're able to confirm if you're paying for QBO Payroll as a standalone and as part of your QBO Bookkeeping.
Here's how:
I also recommend contacting our QuickBooks Support Team if you need further assistance. They have available resources and can take a look into your account to see your subscription status.
Here's how to contact them:
1. Open your QuickBooks Account.
2. At the top right, click the Help icon.
3. Click Contact Us.
4. Under What can we help you with?, enter your concern.
5. Click Let's Talk.
6. You'll be routed into the Choose a way to connect with us page. Then, you can choose Get a callback.
7. Fill in the information. Then, click the Confirm my call button.
You can browse this article to learn more about the different types of support we offer at Intuit and its availability: Support hours and types.
I'm also adding this article to further guide you in effectively managing your business using QBO: Help guide for QuickBooks Online. It contains topics about advanced accounting, banking, and payments to name a few.
Let me know if there's anything else you need help with. Know that I'm always here to help you anytime. Take care and keep safe!
Additionally, as I mentioned before, online chat support said that my account could not be migrated at this time and the "back end" team was working on this and would contact me when complete - which they have not yet done.
As mentioned, the browser is not the issue. Both browsers I tried are on your supported list - https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/install-or-update-products/system-requirements-for...
Please advise next steps, as the back end team never got back to me.
It's a delight to have you here in the Community, @TheMaximus
Yes, we can migrate or export your data from Intuit Online Payroll (IOP) to QuickBooks Online Payroll (QBOP).
First off, let's ensure you have an active QBOP subscription. If you haven't already, feel free to check out this article on how to get one: Subscribe to QBOP.
Also, here are a few things we'll need to remember before exporting your data:
Let's begin the export process by following the steps below:
Then, follow Steps 2 to 5 outlined in this article for the successful export process. It also contains info on what happens when your data is entered into QuickBooks.: How to migrate data from IOP to QBOP?.
Once this issue gets resolved, you can view this article: See what you can get with QuickBooks Online Payroll Core. It has a list of available features on this payroll service, so you can familiarize yourself with it.
Also, I'd like to let you know that aside from contacting the Phone Support Team, there are various avenues to get assistance with QuickBooks. We have the Online Chat that you can reach out to. They can also review the case ID created and verified all the information you provided.
