Intuit reps have been saying this for over a year now regarding this issue.  15 months, I think. It would be refreshing if you just admitted that they're not actually working on this.

It took me two hours to figure out the issues and fix them and publish an update on my site.  Maybe Intuit should pay me to fix these issues...  Just a thought.

RE: I followed the steps exactly, ...

What steps?

The original complaint is about issues in Excel, not locking up QB, so you may be experiencing something else.

Can anyone tell me if they ever found a resolution to this problem? I am still having issues with pulling the payroll report into Excel. The State Wage Listing report is no longer working and that's the main one I use.

Summarize Payroll Data in Excel issue

Hi, jmeyer4RVC.

Allow me to step in and provide some update regarding generating the State Wage Listing report via QuickBooks Desktop.

Our Payroll Team is actively working to resolve this issue. I’d encourage you to contact our QuickBooks Desktop Support and have them attach your case to INV-24874, so they can add your account information to the notification list. That way, our engineers can send you updates via email when they are available.

To ensure we address your concern on time, check out our support hours.

As a workaround, you can run the report from previous quarters, and then when asked to update select "yes" and it can pull all the data correctly. If that does not work clean install of QuickBooks and Excel are possible fixes. Or, you can delete the 'QB_Payroll_Link.xlt' and re-download it.

Here's how:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. On your computer, go to your C Drive. Then Program files (86x),
  3. Find Intuit, then Quickbooks20xx,
  4. Click Components and then Templates.
  5. Find the QB_Payroll_Link.xlt and delete it.
  6. Reopen QuickBooks and get a full payroll update.
  7. After updating, try opening the report again.

The following resources are good references. It contains information about exporting feature limitations as well as on what other Excel reports that are available in QuickBooks Desktop. Also, this will provide you steps on how to save reports as Excel Workbooks:

Please extend your patience while we're working for the permanent fix. Don't hesitate to drop me a line if you have other questions. Have a good one.

Having a similar issue.  The report that actually loads is 3 sample people with made up social security numbers. They are not even related to the company file. Very odd.  Let me know if there is a fix in the pipeline.

  6. Reopen QuickBooks and get a full payroll update.
  7. After updating, try opening the report again.

Also, I'd recommend contacting our Technical Support team so your client will be added to the affected user's list. Once updates are available, you'd be notified through an email. Just make sure to provide your name, updated email, and the investigation number INV-49928.

Same problem here - has been happening for over a year - do not see why Intuit can't resolve this issue as well as other issues related to Excel (for example the Statement Writer only works with Excel 2013 or earlier).  This continuing lack of support and fixing of an issue that has been going on for so long is quite unacceptable.  The fixes do not now or have ever worked for me.  Cuts down on efficiency and quite honestly, if I could find a different accounting program that was easily accessible to clients I would do it.  As a ProAdvisor I am finding it difficult to recommend this product.   We really need better updating and compatibility with Microsoft.  Nothing like having customers be in the middle of issues between software giants.

I have tried all suggestions to no avail.  I have been experiencing this same problem for well over a year; since we upgraded to Windows 10.  We have hired out IT company to and they were able to temporarily fix it with a macro to Excel but that does not work with the newer versions of Excel.

This has been a great disappointment to me and this can be a game changer if this issue does not get resolved.

I hope ALLLLLL QB people replying realize that reposting the same response with a pat on the back and we are working on it or call our team doesn't help people who are unimaginably frustrated that this doesn't work, QB support has no fixes and it is disrupting business. It makes Quickbooks sounds stupid and infuriates end users.

I have been put on the imaginary list and received nothing . . . the program is still broken and I'm still paying a TON of hard earned money for it, not to mentioned the money in my time and energy but our IT guy.

fix that.

I honestly can't believe that they don't have this fixed yet. The fact that I am still required to use a workaround from a consulting company that resolved the issue in 2 hours, but Intuit can't figure it out is a joke.

It's pretty wild that we are STILL waiting on QuickBooks to fix this issue when Big Red Consulting was able to resolve it in under two hours. I am required to overwrite QuickBooks template file with Big Red's every time if I want to run this report. Get it together QuickBooks. There is literally a person in this thread that has resolved the issue. Contact him and pay the man to fix this for you.

I am so disheartened with Intuit. This problem has been hear for YEARS and Big Red fixed it for free, in a few hours. Between this and the having to sign into Intuit to open a company file, updates that you can't seem to get turned off, etc. it is amazing we keep giving them our money. I do not know what they are doing with it but they are NOT improving QuickBooks with it..

I just want you to know that we contacted our IT guy today because I am thoroughly fed up with this issue and Quickbooks slow response to the issue.  We are using Office 365 Online.  Our Summarize Payroll in Excel did not work either.  I had another issue with my computer today and while he was resolving that issue, I mentioned this to him.  He said he thought he could take care of it.  He went into the computer and went into some of the Intuit files and was able to remedy the issue.  He stated that someone on a forum had discussed how to do it.  I have looked through the forums, but I don't see anything.  I am assuming, though, that any IT person would know about it.  If not, you may want to contact Wendell Wilson Consultinig, LLC in Richmond, KY and see if he can resolve your issue.  It was a 15 minute fix at the most.

My company has been going through this same issue.  I was speaking with my IT person today regarding a different issue and told him since they upgraded a couple of my computers to Office 365Online that our Summarize Payroll in Excel feature will not work properly.  While he was correcting my other issue he went in and resolved this issue.  I wish I could tell you what he did, but it was so quick that I could not catch it all.  It took him all of possibly 15 minutes.

Maybe if you contact an IT person they may know what he did.  If not, please feel free to contact Wendell Wilson Consulting, LLC in Richmond, KY to see if they can help you.  I really hope they can because this is truly frustrating.
