Summarize Payroll Data in Excel issue

When trying to run Summarize Payroll Data in Excel as soon as we click the report we get an Excel message that reads "We found a problem with some content on QB_Payroll_Link.xlt. Do you want us to recover as much as we can?" If we say no the report does not run. If we say yes it runs but some of the tabs do not have complete information in them - especially the State Wages Listing tab. Worked with support and tried updating & reinstalling but no luck yet. Any other suggestions?

Hi there, @casrookie.

Thank you for providing some details about the steps you've tried. I can help you resolve your report's Export to Excel issue.

You can try reinstalling using a super clean install. This is the last resort for issues that can't be resolved by a standard clean install. For important reminders and detailed instructions, you can refer to the article below.

Reinstall using a Super Clean install

After using the super clean tool, I'm sure that you can already export the Summarize Payroll Data to Excel.

Keep me posted if you have other questions about reports or transactions. I'm here to help you further. Wishing you all the best!

I am having the same issue.  In our office we have multiple workstations all running on a network.  On Tuesday (1/8/19) , we had no problems running this report.  On Wednesday, about half our workstation were getting the Pivot Tables error and half could still run the summary report with no errors.  Today (Sat. 1/12/19), I am down to 2 workstation still being able to run the report without problems and the other 13 workstation having the issue.  We use multiple versions of QuickBooks Premier Accountant Desktop software and it doesn't seem to matter which year QB you are using they are all having the problem.  The two workstations that it still works on have their auto updates off, whereas all the other workstations are set to auto update.  I am resorting to using one workstation as a test case and wiping it and reinstalling MS Office and QB on it and not updating the QBs to see if that resolves the problem.  Then once we are past W2  prep season, installing the updates.  Not a good solution.

Hello,

I’m having the same isssue.  I got an error message when running the Summarize Payroll Data in Excel report. Once I click to fix the error, the repaired QB_Payroll _Link2 opens. The State Wage Listing Tab does not have the usual drop down box to choose SUI Company or FUTA for me to run the correct reports to send to the State of Florida and the Feds. I read one of the comments to do a super clean install and that’s just unacceptable and not practical.  We all need to submit this information ASAP, so please help in fixing this issue.

Kind regards,

SanabellaSpa

I'm having the same issue with Desktop Pro Plus 2019. This has been going on since last fall, ridiculous to pay for this product and not have full functionally! I'm already getting love letters from the SS Admin, which I believe is directly correlated to this QB issue, questioning some of my employee data Its time to reconcile this issue.

January 15, 2019

I am having the same issue with Enterprise 18.  I'm not going thru the trouble of re-installing QB on each computer when it isn't even an established fix.  It's tax season so hoping this gets immediate attention since so many are having an issue.  Thanks for posting.

Hello, @dyleva.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts here in the Community. I understand the impact of any delay in resolving this problem. Our engineers are doing the best they can to get this issue resolved as soon as possible.

As soon as an update is received, I, or another member of the Community Team, will be happy to update this thread and let you know so that you can get back to business. But for now, I'd suggest contacting our Desktop Payroll Support so they can pull up your account in a secure environment and add you to the list of affected users. You can contact them with the instructions provided above by my colleague @JamesDuanT.

Let me know if you have other questions. I'm here to help however I can.

I need to jump in on this as I'm having the same problem with Summarize Payroll Data in Excel using Desktop Pro 2017.  We all have state & Federal reports that are due.  When will this be fixed?

January 21, 2019

Hello, @Jeanne1213.

Thanks for reaching out and joining the thread.

This has already been escalated and our Engineering Team is actively working to get this resolved. However, we don't have a specific turn around time yet when this will be available.

I can pass along all the feedback you have to the appropriate channels and make sure your concerns are addressed accordingly.

In the meantime, you can run the report from previous quarters and then when asked to update, select yes and it'll be able to pull up the data correctly. If that does not work, clean install of QB and Excel are possible fixes.

I'll be here to give you an update once the issue is resolved. Let me know if you need anything else.

January 22, 2019

Same issue.  Been running State Wage Listing in excel for 15 years.  Need it by the end of the month for filing purposes.  Please keep me updated.  Thanks.

January 24, 2019

We are having the same problems.

This is tax season.  I need this report.  There does not seem to be any other way of getting that data summarized for our State Wage Listing or Quarterly.

I contacted QB as well as Microsoft.

Thank you

I am an accountant and I am having the same problem with Summarize Data in Excel.

When I call quickbooks technical support, they say they are working on the issue.  It was reported over 3 months ago!  We cannot do our state quarterly reports without this report.  We have to do  manual calculations for hundreds of our client's employees which is a total waste of time, using excel of course.  This report is the only one that shows excess wages when an employee has reached the maximum amount for SUI.    The report worked fine for years now and the ENGINEERS can't figure out the problem!  QUICKBOOKS THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.

Everyone who is having problems should inundate technical support with calls until they fix it.

Yes, we have reported this issue and our engineering team is currently investigating what may be causing this. All I know is that we are using Windows 7 and Office 2007 and we can get the reports in QB 2018 and 2019.  Yet we have a client that has Windows 10 and office 2016 and she cannot get her reports.  We got them for the 4th quarter and then nothing.  It appears that it is a glitch in office 2016 along with windows 10.  QB needs to get with Microsoft and get this worked out.  Engineers need to look at the codes.  There has to be a coding error somewhere.

Can anyone tell me if they ever found a resolution to this problem? I am still having issues with pulling the payroll report into Excel. The State Wage Listing report is no longer working and that's the main one I use.

Hi, jmeyer4RVC.

Allow me to step in and provide some update regarding generating the State Wage Listing report via QuickBooks Desktop.

Our Payroll Team is actively working to resolve this issue. I’d encourage you to contact our QuickBooks Desktop Support and have them attach your case to INV-24874, so they can add your account information to the notification list. That way, our engineers can send you updates via email when they are available.

To ensure we address your concern on time, check out our support hours.

As a workaround, you can run the report from previous quarters, and then when asked to update select "yes" and it can pull all the data correctly. If that does not work clean install of QuickBooks and Excel are possible fixes. Or, you can delete the 'QB_Payroll_Link.xlt' and re-download it.

Here's how:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. On your computer, go to your C Drive. Then Program files (86x),
  3. Find Intuit, then Quickbooks20xx,
  4. Click Components and then Templates.
  5. Find the QB_Payroll_Link.xlt and delete it.
  6. Reopen QuickBooks and get a full payroll update.
  7. After updating, try opening the report again.

The following resources are good references. It contains information about exporting feature limitations as well as on what other Excel reports that are available in QuickBooks Desktop. Also, this will provide you steps on how to save reports as Excel Workbooks:

Please extend your patience while we're working for the permanent fix. Don't hesitate to drop me a line if you have other questions. Have a good one.

Having a similar issue.  The report that actually loads is 3 sample people with made up social security numbers. They are not even related to the company file. Very odd.  Let me know if there is a fix in the pipeline.

We also have a client with this issue. I am unable to comprehend that this issue still exists from January of 2019 in October of 2020. Please update me when this has been patched.

I understand how much work this on-going concern with the payroll report had caused you, @thebcdub.

This is a reported issue. Currently, our Product Engineers are working diligently on an investigation to determine the root cause of this error and released a permanent resolution.

In the meantime, you can run the report from the previous quarters. Then, when asked to update select "yes" and it is able to pull all the data correctly. If that does not work clean install of QB and Excel are possible fixes. Here's how:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. On your computer, go to your C Drive. Then Program files (86x),
  3. Find Intuit, then Quickbooks20xx,
  4. Click Components and then Templates.
  5. Find the QB_Payroll_Link.xlt and delete it.
  6. Reopen QuickBooks and get a full payroll update.
  7. After updating, try opening the report again.

Also, I'd recommend contacting our Technical Support team so your client will be added to the affected user's list. Once updates are available, you'd be notified through an email. Just make sure to provide your name, updated email, and the investigation number INV-49928.

Here's how you can contact us:

  1. Go to the Help menu.
  2. Choose QuickBooks Desktop Help.

Same problem here - has been happening for over a year - do not see why Intuit can't resolve this issue as well as other issues related to Excel (for example the Statement Writer only works with Excel 2013 or earlier).  This continuing lack of support and fixing of an issue that has been going on for so long is quite unacceptable.  The fixes do not now or have ever worked for me.  Cuts down on efficiency and quite honestly, if I could find a different accounting program that was easily accessible to clients I would do it.  As a ProAdvisor I am finding it difficult to recommend this product.   We really need better updating and compatibility with Microsoft.  Nothing like having customers be in the middle of issues between software giants.
