What day will Friday paychecks deposit into employee accounts the week of Christmas and New Year's??

If you do nothing different they will deposit on the Monday following the Friday holiday.

Two things you will have to do to plan ahead, change your payday to Thursday the 24th and 31st and process on Tuesday, not Wednesday as usual.

I believe you also will have to process payroll on Tuesday before Thanksgiving since tge deduction from your bank account must occur the  day prior to the direct deposit and they obviously cannot process the deduction on turkey day

Welcome to the Community, @jacque-1stwebsal.

I agree with john-pero. Also, if the paychecks will be created and submitted by Friday (Christmas and New Year), it will be deposited to your employees' account after two business days (Tuesday the week after).

It will only change if the payday falls on, or two days after, a holiday. In this scenario, you need to submit payroll one business day earlier than you normally would.

To learn more about how to ensure your employees get paid on time when there’s a holiday, I suggest checking out this article: How do federal holidays affect my direct deposit?

You can submit your payroll in advance without changing your paycheck date, @gee_gee.

Let me share some information on how the direct deposit lead time or funding time assigned to your account affects your payroll submission for Christmas day.

QuickBooks Online have a 1-day lead time or a 5-day lead time.

  • 1-day lead time - Since December 24 is a working holiday, your employee will still receive their pay on December 25th. Just make sure to submit your payroll before 5:00 PM PST 1 business day prior to payday. There's no need to change its paycheck date. After you’ve submitted payroll, you can still void or add paychecks up to 4:59 PM PST that day. After 5:00 PM, payroll begins processing and cannot be stopped.
  • 5-day lead time - This means you need to submit your payroll before 5:00 PM PST 5 business days prior to payday. If payday is on a Friday, you’ll need to submit payroll the Friday before payday.

Thanks for following this thread, Kerrville011.

The direct deposit for QBDT Payroll has a 2-day lead time where you're advised to submit payroll two business days (5:00 PM PST) preceding payday. If payday falls on a holiday, lodge payroll one business day earlier than you usually do. This is because money will be drawn from your account before regular banking hours the next business day.

If you wish your employees to receive their pay before December 25, change the pay date to the 24th. Then, submit payroll on or before Tuesday (December 22) before 5:00 PM PST for direct deposit processing.

For more insights about direct deposit timing, go to the QuickBooks Desktop Payroll and Intuit Online Payroll section in this article: How do federal holidays affect my direct deposit?

With Christmas Eve being declared a Federal holiday, and our normal paydates being Fridays whag day do I need to process?

What day will Friday paychecks deposit into employee accounts the week of Christmas and New Year's??

Greetings, @Cbridges12.

Let me first welcome you to the Community space. I'd like to share some information about how federal holidays affect payroll processing.

Since Friday, December 25th is a holiday, you can submit your payroll by Tuesday, November 22th before 5:00 PM PST. This way, your employees will receive their direct deposit funds on Thursday, December 24th.

Also, as mentioned by my colleague Rasa-LilaM, the direct deposit in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) has a 2-day lead time. That's why you'll need to submit the payroll before 5 p.m., Pacific Time, two banking days before your paycheck date.

I'm adding this article for more details: How do federal holidays affect my direct deposit?

You can also check out the articles shared by my colleague on how to manage your payments or collections schedule and the list of federal holidays.

Just in case you've reached your direct deposit limit soon, you can read this article to know what to do: Get help if you’re over a direct deposit limit.

Please let me know if I can be of additional assistance by leaving a reply below. I’m always here to help. Thanks for dropping by and happy holidays!

Thanks for your prompt response, @Cbridges12 . I understand you want your employees to receive their pay on time.

Based on the declared holidays from Federal Reserve System for this year, December 24th isn't on the list. Check out this link: https://www.federalreserve.gov/aboutthefed/k8.htm

However, you can also process your payroll ahead of time. You may submit your payroll on Monday, December 21st on or before 5:00 PM  Pacific Time.

Federal Bank Holiday is the operative phrase. Payroll direct deposits, unlike your utility or credit card payments, cannot happen when the banks are closed. Let me correct myself, if you schedule an ach payment to Home Depot on the 25th, HD credits your account on the 25th but the funds will not leave your bank until the next legal business day, the 28th. And this is exactly what happens with payroll for Christmas Day and New Years this year. You can schedule checks for Christmas but your employees will not receive the funds until Monday thd 28th, that is why you must SCHEDULE your paychecks this week to be on Thursday.

So you are saying then, that you have to actually physically go in and change the payroll date from the Friday to the Thursday?  Not just submit the payroll early?

Good day, Jewels71.

Let me join this thread so I can share some details about direct deposit payroll for holidays.

The direct deposit payroll depends not only on when you submitted it but also on the paycheck date. With QuickBooks Online Payroll, you may have a 1-day lead time, a 5-day lead time, or a same-day direct deposit. Let me explain the difference between the three.

1-day lead time

If your payday falls on a holiday, you'll need to process and schedule the payday one business day earlier than you normally do.

Same-day direct deposit

You'll need to process and schedule the payroll before 7:00 AM PST on the day before the holiday. For the Friday holiday, approve your paychecks on the prior Thursday by 7 AM PST.

5-day lead time

Submit and schedule your payroll before 5:00 PM PST 5 business days prior to payday.

If you'll run the payroll after the cutoff time, it will process the next business day and employees will get paid a day later. I've added these links for your reference:

If you have to move it up by a day, how do you get around the 10 day requirement between direct deposits?

Thank you for joining this thread, @gabbott517. I'd like to share some insights about your concern.

With payroll, you can pay employees on time by submitting your payroll on the right day. Learn more about when to submit payroll and the lead time of your payroll service.

Lead time is the span of time between the day you submit your payroll and the day your employees receive their direct deposits. While payroll submission day is the day of the week that you submit your payroll. Your lead time will determine what your payroll submission day will be.

What day will Friday paychecks deposit into employee accounts the week of Christmas and New Year's??

In my situation, I just did payroll for this week, today, Sunday Dec 19th, for what is normally a Friday, Dec 24th payroll. The entre payroll is direct deposit.

Now, I realize, from experience, that the bank will be closed on Friday, and expected my direct deposit to go into employee banks on Thursday 12/23.

My direct deposit payroll check dates are still 12/24 and if I had sent the payroll people would not be paid until the following Monday. This would be a great hardship for many people.

I changed all the direct deposit check dates to 12/23.

Normally these dates change to the holidays and I am not sure why they did not this time.

I am glad I checked and am letting all of you know to do the same.

Merry Christmas!

What day will Friday paychecks deposit into employee accounts the week of Christmas and New Year's??

According to the link that everyone is sharing about Federal Holidays, December 31st is considered a holiday because New Year's Day falls on a Saturday. Is that correct? No direct deposit on December 31, 2021?

I either need to process the direct deposit early so that it can be scheduled for December 30th or process it on the typical day (12/29) but the amount will not deposit until January 3rd.

The significant issue with the second option is QB does not let you input updated tax rates until January 1st. So if I process the payroll on 12/28 for a 1/3 deposit, the tax rates will be incorrect. What a mess!!!

I'm a bit disappointed with Quickbooks on this issue.  In times past, we would receive notification about the need to possibly change our pay dates.  There has been no such message which is going to cause a tremendous amount of problems for people.

Yes, you are right! Friday is just a regular day. You can process payroll by 12/31/2021.

I’ll have you these steps, just in case you need more information on how to process payroll.

  1. Go to the Payroll menu, then select Run payroll.
  2. Select a pay schedule, then Continue.
  3. Select the employees you want to pay.
  4. Verify if you have selected the correct bank account, pay period, and pay date. You can also modify them as needed.
  5. Change employee's payment method as needed.
  6. Enter hours worked if applicable. TIP: you can hide or show pay types by selecting the Settings ⚙ icon below the TOTAL PAY.
  7. Select Preview Payroll.
  8. To edit or preview a specific check, select the Edit icon next to the check's net pay, then select OK when done.
  9. When you're ready, select Submit payroll.
  10. You're all set! To print paychecks, select Print paychecks, then Finish payroll.
