Cannot export QB desktop to QB online, login screen does not come up, nothing happens

Hi, I am trying to export my QB desktop company file to my trial QB online account. I follow all of the directions, but the process stalls and the options the instructions say should come up, do not come up. I updated my Quickbooks desktop first, closed Quickbooks and re-opened it. Here is what happens:

1) In QB desktop, Company->Export your company file to Quickbooks online.

2) Make the move with your expert at you side comes up, I select not now.

3) A window with two options comes up, and I select "I'm ready to move" and I click the "move now" button (the other options is "I wan to try it first")

4) The next screen has two options asking me yes or no to whether or not I have a Quickbooks online account. I created a trial account, so I select "Yes, sign me in" (the other options is "No, I need to create on").

 

NOTHING HAPPENS. I CAN CLICK ON THE YES option or the NO option. I can see the screen alternating between the choices. But NOTHING HAPPENS. I single click. I double click. I hit enter instead of using my mousepad. NOTHING.

 

The screen isn't frozen because I can easily close it and try again. I closed everything, rebooted my computer and tried again. I switched computers and tried again. I changed my default browser and tried again. Same result every time at the same place every time.

 

The video and all of the online instructions show that a login screen should display next.

I appreciate you performing some steps to export your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) data to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

 

When moving your QBDT data, there are things that you need to consider. One of these is making sure that your QBDT account is up-to-date. If you're using a version older than 2018, you need to use a trial version to convert your file. You also need to check if the company file isn’t too big to export. Once verified, try to perform the export process again.

 

Also, keep in mind that you can only transfer a company file within 60 days after signing up to QBO. If it is more than 60 days, I suggest creating another trial account.

You need to open your file on QBD 2019-2021 to migrate to QBO. Make sure your Total Targets < 350K or run the Condense Data utility to downsize it.

Thanks for the guidance! That link no longer works but it put me on the right track. So I was able to get a working link from QB support. I have the exact same problem. I am using the current version of Quickbooks Desktop Enterprise, our targets are less than 350,000. It gets frozen when I say yes to migrating. 

 

I have let this process run for over 7 hours and it goes nowhere. My screen is not frozen either. 

 

Can someone please help? I have called support numerous times, gotten different answers and still can't get this to work. It has taken over a month. SInce I am in single user mode, no one else can use Quickbooks.

I'll make sure you can export your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) data to QuickBooks Online (QBO), Gail.

 

To make sure we're on the same page, may I know what version of QBDT you're using? Any additional details can help us narrow things down. 

 

In addition to Fiat lux - ASIA added, you also want to make sure your QBDT is up to date to get around this issue. This also ensures the program is running with the latest features and fixes. Let me show you how.

 

  1. Go to the Help menu and select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Select the Update Now tab.
  3. Click Get Updates to start the download.
  4. Restart QuickBooks when the download finishes and accept the option to install the new release.

Hi,

 

We have the latest version of Quickbooks Desktop Enterprise. I have updated it as well as one of the support people had me repair it. I don't know what the sample file is. I tried to respond to the last reply but this forum gave me authentication errors. 

 

This is Enterprise not Pro or Premier. I have been sent those instructions as well and it didn't work. That option is not available.

Did you upgrade your file to QBD 2022? Try to migrate from your earlier version (e.g 2021). We have noticed posts reporting this issue when trying to migrate data to QBO from QBD Enterprise 2022.

I appreciate you for contacting our support agent to get this sorted out. The file can only have a maximum of 350,000 targets to import. If the file is too big to export, we'll need to condense your QuickBooks Desktop file. Before doing so, we'll need to create a backup just in case you ever run into problems, we can use your backup to restore your data. Once done, try to perform the export process again. If the same thing happens, there may be damaged data on the company file you've been working with. We can run the Rebuild Data tool is built-in to fix any company file data issues. Just follow the detailed steps in this article: Fix data damage on your QuickBooks Desktop company file.

Thank you for these suggestions. I did rebuild the data and it still froze afterwards. We are well under the 350,000 targets. I have the latest release of Quickbooks Desktop, have repaired the QB file with the help of support, cleared my caches and tried to run in administrator mode. I have called support well over 6 times. To be honest, I am nearing the end of my rope. This shouldn't be so difficult. Every time I call support I get a different answer. We are nearing the end of our 60 days.

Screen is still frozen. I have updated QB, repaired the file, rebuilt the data, verified the data and checked that the targets are less than 350,000. They are. Still screen is frozen and goes nowhere. I have also cleared the cache and cookies from the browser. 

 

Do you have any other suggestions?

Try opening the sample file and migrate it to QBO. If the same error persists, the problem is not fixed yet on QBD 2022. You should utilize QBD 2021 to migrate your file as a workaround.

I can guide you where you can get the sample file, @Syn3. This way, you can check the issue and resolve it as soon as possible. 

 

You can see the sample file by downloading the QuickBooks Desktop trial version account. Before that, ensure that your computer meets the minimum requirements to install the product. You can go to this link for more details: Download a trial of QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise.

 

Once installed, open it and try migrating your company file to verify it's already performing well. If the issue keeps going, I'd recommend utilizing QuickBooks 2021 version. Then migrate your file from there to check if it's already working adequately. To download the account, check out this link: Downloads & Updates.

 

When everything is set, please run the Profit and Loss report both Desktop and Online on an accrual basis. This way, you can check if your import is successful.

I'm having the same issue! I've spent two hours on the phone with Intuit including having them remote in to my PC to see what I'm doing and they can't figure it out. It's so annoying!!!

I can get past the screen where it asks for my login information for the QB online, it then tells me it is retrieving transactions and sits there for about 3 hours. This has happened twice. The screen says it could take up to 30 minutes. I only have 26k targets so I know the file isn't too big. I really need to get this resolved asap! Any suggestions??? I've called QB support and they are no help at all.

yes I'm trying to convert a company from QB Enterprise desktop to QB Online. I updated to Version 2022 as required and even checked for updates and everything is up to date.

We discovered there was an ongoing issue migrating data from the trial version for QBD 2022 for the past 3 months. Consider using the trial version for QBD 2021 as a workaround.
