If you want to install QuickBooks on a second computer, you can follow the steps given by my colleague Angelyn_T.
Before you begin with the installation process, it's better to consider certain pointers. First, ensure to check the minimum requirements for the particular Windows version you use for speedy installation. Also, prepare the license and product number.

Hello.
We use QB Desktop 2019 for my husband's business for which I am the bookkeeper. It's set up for 2 users, he and I.
Question: I would like to download a copy of QB to use for my own side business, so it would be a new company file for a different business. Can I do that?
Thanks for any instruction on that...
Carol
Greeting, @BookkeeperWytch.
Yes, you can create a second company file for your business without affecting your husband's company file. You just need to enter your business name, industry, and business type to create your company file. I can guide you in doing so.
First, you'd want to secure a copy of your husband's QuickBooks license number and product code. You can now download and install QuickBooks to your device. Here's how:
Once completed, you can now create your own company file. You can follow the steps below:
Also, you can create multiple company files in one QuickBooks Desktop license. You can refer to this article for more information: Create QuickBooks Desktop Company file: Overview.
I want to ensure that you have the optimum configuration for your business, so please feel free to let me know if you have additional questions. Have a wonderful day.
i have Qbooks 2017 on my main computer and it won't download anything from my bank. I uninstalled and reinstalled from the disc, but it still wont download from my bank
I wondered if downloading it to my newer standalone would fix the problem?
Let me help ensure you're able to bring in your bank transactions to QuickBooks Desktop, nanban.
I can provide some steps to isolate and check if the issue is coming from the .qbo file. You can start by downloading the Web Connect file from your bank outside of QuickBooks. Then, manually import them to record your transactions.
Here are the steps you can follow:
If you see an error when you download or import the file, there may be an issue with your bank. Reach out to your bank for help.
If you can import and see your transactions in QuickBooks, follow the steps to reset your bank connection.
On the other hand, you can check to see if the issue is with your company fie. To continue, you can import transactions into a new company file. Here's how:
If you can import the file in the test file, there may be a settings issue. Go back to your original company file and reset them.
If you can import your transactions in your original company file, everything is fixed.
If the issue persists, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Desktop Team. They can create a case and investigate this behavior.
Let me know how this goes by commenting below. I'm always right here to help you.
Your QBD 2017 is outdated. You may have 2 options:
1. Upgrade to QBD 2021. Utilize the trial license of it to make sure it works. Then you may purchase a one time license of QBD 2021 Pro for 1 user worth $399 or Premier for 1 user worth $499
2. Keep using QBD 2017 and import the bank data manually or utilize a converter app.
Installing on same Computer. Upgrading QB 2018 to 2021. Purchased with Payroll. Got License and Product keys. At upgrade requested key is in 4 boxes. Keys I have is a string. Entered. Not match required format.
Hi there, Calimex.
Thanks for following up on this thread. I want to make sure you're able to install your updated QuickBooks Desktop account.
Since the product key given isn't matching the required format, I recommend contacting the Desktop Support Team. Agents have specialized tools, like screen-sharing, to take a closer look at your account to determine what's causing this issue.
The following link provides access to the Support Team outside of the product since it's not currently operating: QuickBooks Support
Please don't hesitate to reach back out if you have any other questions or concerns. I'll be here to help in any way that I can.
I have QBDT2018 on two computers sharing one data file on computer A. We currently have a license for each computer. However, we've never been able to get the two to work properly in multi-user mode. The two users never need QB at the same time. Due to our having Enhanced Payroll we need to upgrade QB by May of this year as QB2018 is being sunsetted. Since we never go into QB at the same time can we purchase one license, install on two computers and share the same data file (but as stated not share simultaneously)? Thanks
Thanks for your interest with knowing how our products work, @billcx,
You can install QuickBooks on a second computer if you're not using payroll. Installing a single license of the program while using payroll will create problems. Also single licenses can't be set for a multi-user system.
If you want other people to access the same file, a hosting service will work. This will help users remotely access your PC away from your desk. We have an app website where you can find hosting tools to help you. See this: Apps for QuickBooks Desktop
We also have a separate forum called Intuit Developers, where you can find engineers who can help recommend third-party hosting applications to use. Click this link to our website: Intuit Developers Community.
If you need further help with anything in QuickBooks Desktop, let me know in the comment section. Have a nice day!

Hey, if I have a desktop version and I want to use quickbooks on Mac now, will this process work?
Thank you for joining in this thread, @nickjasbir.
I'm here to share some details about accessing QuickBooks for Windows on a Mac laptop or computer.
QuickBooks have a specific version that is designed solely for Mac. Thus, you have to install QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac on your device to run the program.
Once installed, you can convert your QBDT for Windows file to QuickBooks Desktop for Mac. This way, you don’t need to start over and transfer your file.
Please take note that you can only move company files from QuickBooks Desktop Pro, Premier, or Premier Accountant Editions.
Additionally, you can check out the system requirements for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac. This way, you can install it successfully on your device.
Feel free to click the Reply button if you have other questions about transferring your data in QuickBooks. I’d be happy to answer all your inquiries. Keep safe.
Hello! Just to make sure, once I do the steps suggested to install on the second computer and restore the backup on the new computer, those that guarantee that any new work done in either computer automatically synchs into each other from there on or do I have to keep doing backups every time so the information in the system is up to date?
