Hey there, @jkhgkhgkjhg. Thanks for reaching out to the Community. I hope you're enjoying your day so far.
To clarify, are you trying to acquire a standalone version of QuickBooks Desktop? You can contact our Customer Care Support team so they can set up your account and go over the details and pricing plans for you. I've included the steps below to connect with support.
Once you've got your product license, you can install it in no time. After that, QuickBooks will ask you to activate and update it
Get back to me if you need further assistance in opening your current company file. You can reach out to the Community any time. Take care!
What toggle?
I have used Quickbooks since it first came out. Many years. I spent a lot of time on chat the other day and after many questions and absolutely no answers, he gave me a phone number to call. I simply asked: Can I still get Quickbooks Pro 2021 without a subcription. He just wanted to analyze my business. After asking all the questions that I told him he didn't need to ask. I knew what I wanted and needed. I never actually got an answer to that question. This was for a client and I know what I need. So, moving forward, I did find that online and will order it for the client. Intuit was no help. And it appears that ALL software is now on a subscription basis. Intuit controls your software. We used to have 3 years to use the sofwater with support and then could upgrade or used without support.
Also, they are pushing the payroll service on each purchase.
Very frustrating. With millions of users, it seems Intuit could afford to allow us to own our license.
They are holding us hostage.
So, just need a simple yes or no:
Are they options for 2022 and forward that do NOT require a subcription?

You can still purchase a one time license of QB Desktop 2020 or 2021 Pro/Premier. If you prefer using QB Desktop 2022, you can purchase a one time license of QB Desktop 2022 Premier Accountant edition. Contact us in private for assistance.
I just had the most frustrating experience with "chat" support. I also have been a customer since QB first came on the market. Last spring I had to purchase a new computer. My version of QB wouldn't work with Win10. I purchased QB Desktop 2021 (no subscription) from Staples - I had to have Intuit support help me migrate my accounting files because of the back version I was using. Somehow, someone put my license down as a subscription and now I am being told if I don't fork out $349 for a 1 year subscription, I will lose access to all of my accounting files!
A few questions:
1. Is it true if a subscription expires all access to accounting files will be lost?
2. Is there no way my license can be changed to reflect no subscription? - I asked this question to chat rep and they said "sure, cancel your subscription and lose all access to your file".
I feel like I'm being extorted after 20+ years as a customer. When I asked to have a telephone number to call a manager to speak about this, the chat rep said "we don't give numbers to people to call, you can only request a call back when someone might be available". So, we who are customers and have jobs are supposed to sit around waiting for an unknown call at an unknown time and think we are getting exemplary customer service. What a sad reflection!
Thanks for taking the time to contact the Community, @JonnyGinMN.
Thanks for taking the time to contact the Community. I want to make sure you get the support you deserve. I may haven't personally experienced what you've gone through, but know that you have the right to be heard and, I'm here listening to you.
I'm here to share some insights and answer your concern about the subscription for QuickBooks Desktop.
To answer your first question, the file will not be lost even if the subscription is already expired. You can still use the file, but you'll not be able to continue receiving the security updates and online services.
Such as the following:
This means you can only use the software for manual tracking and keeping your company data. Here's an article you can read for more insights: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy and upgrade information.
For the second question, you'll need a subscription for your license. However, you can follow the suggestions shared to cancel your subscription and purchase a one-time license of QuickBooks Desktop since it will last for three years.
You can check this comparison chart to help you weigh your options: Choose your QuickBooks Desktop product (Software Only).
You can read through these articles to learn more about the new features in QuickBooks Desktop 2022:

1. Once your Plus license is expired, you are unable to open your file(s). You may uninstall your QBD and install the trial license of QBD 2021 to open your file(s) again.
2. You can still purchase a one time license of QBD 2021 and cancel your QBD 2021 Plus. Login to your CAMPS and make sure to cancel it prior to automatic renewal date.
Their "chat" team is a joke! I had a "conversation" that went in circles and all they kept saying was "the subscription is our featured product." Of course it is! It gets you to pay hundreds of dollars every year--no choice. I finally called the sales number and had a decent conversation with someone, but was told there are no more single/non subscription choices unless I can find an old 2021 version at a store. So far I've been unsuccessful!
Their "chat team" is a joke--made up of incompetent people apparently following a script! I went around in circles trying to get this questions answered and all the person kept telling me was "our subscriptions are the featured product." Of course they are--it gets you to pay hundreds of dollars every year! I finally called the sales line and had a decent conversation with a knowledgeable person who told me that going forward, Quickbooks is only sold as a subscription. I could try to find a 2021 single license download in a store (such as Best Buy), but so far I've been unsuccessful. It's more greedy companies that want more money every year.
I would rather upgrade to 2021 QB Pro than upgrade to a subscription. What a ripoff. I have been using QB desktop since the 90's and currently have 2019. I'm guessing I could have upgraded to 2021 before the 2022 subscription came out, but now I feel trapped or I just stay with what I have until I am forced to upgrade. Either way, I think this is a bad scam business model.
You can still purchase the one time license of QBD 2021 Pro. If you prefer to use QBD 2022, consider to purchase a one time license of QBD 2022 Accountant edition. The cost is slightly higher than QBD 2022 Premier's first year license.
How can I purchase the QB Desktop Pro 2021? I do now want to go on a subscription.
Where do you live? If you are in the US, you may find some local partners offering QBD 2021 on a one-time license. Otherwise, contact us in private for assistance.
Thanks for choosing QuickBooks Desktop in managing your business, MCLancaster.

This helps you see different information about the new and improved features in QucikBooks 2021 to help you get paid faster and to make the data accurate. I've also added these articles for more information about our discontinuation policy and upgrading your QuickBooks program:
I'll address any other concerns you might have regarding installing and upgrading QuickBooks Desktop versions. If you'd like to take care of your transactions and lists, lay down the details below and I'll help you out.
As others have posted, you can purchase QBDT2021 in a couple of places.
If you can download a .QBO file from your bank, then you can continue to use QBDT2021 for as long as you want. If you have to use Direct Connect and sync your bank transactions with QBDT, then you should be good through May 2024. At that point, if Intuit hasn't come to their senses in either pricing or with another stand-alone version, then you'll either need to switch to whatever competitor has stepped in with a stand-alone product or go to the subscription.
I just talked with "sales". He first wanted all kinds of information before he would answer a simple question and then wanted me to call another number to discuss the new version. The online tech support states that you cannot use the new software without paying the subscription every single year going forward. I am a bookkeeper that occasionally works on clients accounts at home. I definitely do not need an annual subscription. Just more tech companies forcing customers to spend more by controlling their data and keeping it hostage.

Which number?
You can still purchase a one time license for QBD 2021 or QBD 2022 Accountant edition.
The sales people you talked to may only have the subscription version to offer you.
Best bet is to do an online search for QB Desktop 2021 or 2022. And it will continue to work as long as you have it. HOWEVER, after three years (give or take a few months) the Banking Online option will stop working. This is true of all QBDT versions. Part of it is true upgrade for security, the other part it the obvious product end-of-life to get you to upgrade.
But if you can download and import a file from your bank, or if you don't care if you sync with the bank, you can keep going. QBDT itself will not stop working.
Going to a subscription is what all software providers are doing. Have you tried to by MS Office lately? Adobe Photoshop, etc.? I haven't checked the latest Intuit pricing, but hopefully the subscription price should be a little less than the cost of upgrading every three years. (Less because there is no materials needed like creating the DVD, boxing, printing, etc., to pay for.)
how?
I have already searched the internet for a non-subscription version of 2021. I also bought the 2021 version many months ago not realizing it was a subscription. I have not yet installed it. I do not want to be forced to pay for something every single year just to have access to my data.

They must have removed that button to swicth, can not find anything but subscriptions :(
Yesterday after trying in vane to get a updated QB with out a subscription, I am pondering my next move on what software we can use, the prices for the subscription are outrageous. As a long time and loyal user i can not even begin to say how incensed I am at this turn of events that Intuit has taken the path of pure Greed! imo.
They only offer QBD 2022 with the subscription license. You can still purchase QBD 2020 or 2021 with the onetime license from a few partners. Contact us in private for assistance.
