I have been using Quickbooks desktop for years! Now when I try to change companies, my Quickbooks shuts down. I restart and try to switch companies and it shuts down again. I called support and they told me the problem is, I am using Quickbooks 2021. They told me to close my company and then all my companies would show up so I could change companies. Now that isn't working! Quickbooks shuts down. They want me to update to 2022 or 2023, but I can't. They took away the scan manager ap and want me to download my bill of ladings on my phone! That is a joke! I do many invoices everyday and that is not an option for me!!! I am at a loss and don't know what to do!!!
Hello, @PAT0511.
I can only imagine what you've been through when trying to open another company in QuickBooks Desktop, and this is not what we want to happen.
I understand you've contacted our customer support team to sort this out. Still, I recommend contacting them again and having a screen-sharing session so they can investigate your concern further.
Here's how:
If you're using QuickBooks Accountant and QBDT Enterprise, you'll want to open two company files simultaneously for future tasks. You can check out this article for a detailed process: Open and use a secondary company file in QuickBooks Desktop.
Let's hear if you have more queries about managing your companies in QBDT. I'm always here to help.
How big is your file size?
I have Quickbooks desktop on 2 different computers. Now both are shutting down when I try to switch companies. I contacted support and they told me to close company and then open up the other company I want. This isn't even working all the time now!!! I won't update to 2022 or 2023 because they took away the scan manager app. I don't have time to download all my bill of ladings to my phone!!! That is a joke! I am trying to find another accounting service!
I am experiencing the exact same problem. It started a couple of weeks ago after an update. My company files are 137,000kb and 57,000kb. I have restarted my computer multiple times. I have tried manual updates but I am fully up to date. The only way I could find today to switch companies was to close QB, then double-click on the .QBW file in my C drive folder. The company opened, and then I was able to switch to the other company as it has always done for the last 25 years. I am using QB Desktop Pro Plus 2023.
Thanks for chiming in on this thread, @dan215.
It's great to know that you've successfully switched companies in QuickBooks Desktop. Your experience will surely benefit other users facing the same issue.
Feel free to ask questions or share your best practices while using the product. Rest assured that the Community is always here to support you.
Yes, I have successfully switched companies, but not in the way that the QB software is supposed to accommodate switching companies. There is definitely a software glitch that the QB programmers created in their last round of updates. Hopefully, the QB programmers will figure out what they screwed up and send us another update to fix the problem they created.
I am having the same problem. I have 7 comapnies that i have to switch back and forth to. I have had 2 sessions with QB they have me do all kinds of things, it works a couple of times and now nothing.
Thanks for getting involved with this thread, kitty52.
Since QuickBooks is shutting down on its own when you try opening a different company file, I'd initially recommend confirming you're up-to-date with your product's latest release.
You can also use the Verify Data utility. It identifies known issues within company files and informs users if their Rebuild Data tool needs to be utilized afterwards.
Here's how it's used:
In the event its results show a "Your data has lost integrity," message, this indicates there's damage in your file. You can use the Rebuild Data utility to fix it. For specific errors, there may already be a resource for them on our support site.
If it displays a "QuickBooks detected no problems with your data," notification, or you've searched our help articles and didn't find any existing resources about the specific error it displayed, you can move on to troubleshooting with our QuickBooks Tool Hub.
Here's how:
In the event QuickBooks continues shutting down when you try switching company files, you'll want to continue getting in touch with our Customer Care team. They'll be able to pull up your account in a secure environment, conduct further research with you, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.
I've also included a detailed resource about QuickBooks closing unexpectedly which may come in handy moving forward: While working in QuickBooks, QuickBooks closes unexpectedly (crashes with or without an error)
Please feel welcome to send a reply if there's any questions. Have a lovely day!
I'm having the same problem. Also, after a recent update , checks don't print correctly. Using the alignment only fixes the first check....the next two are off. I am truly disgusted with this company. I've been using QB for decades. Now looking for new options. Wish they would fix these issues that were created in the updates!
Hello, @pfpbp. I understand the significant impact these issues can have on your workflow.
Currently, we have an ongoing investigation about the program crash that occurs when opening files. Rest assured that our engineers are doing their best to fix it as soon as possible.
I recommend contacting our Customer Care Support team so you'll be added to the list of affected users. By doing so, you'll receive email updates on the progress of the investigation and be promptly notified once a resolution is reached. Below, I've provided the steps to connect with our support:
Here's how:
For more details about our support availability, refer to this article: Contact Support.
Additionally, we recommend backing up your company file regularly to safeguard your data.
Regarding the issue with printing checks, ensure that your printer driver is updated. Frequently, updates address compatibility concerns that can impact printing. If you continue to experience the same issue, there is a possibility that it's associated with the recent release update. This information would be valuable for our support team as well.
I've also included some articles that will help you resolve common printing issues and align your forms to print on continuous-feed printers:
If you have any further insights or observations about the shutdowns, please don't hesitate to share them with us. We genuinely appreciate your patience and understanding as we work towards a solution.
Which QB Desktop year version and Windows OS do you run?
Windows 11 QB Desktop Pro Plus 23
Hasn't been an issue until very recently. I have been trying for 2 days to change companies. When it first started it would crash a time or two and then it would work. Now it pretty much crashes every time. It makes the platform worthless to me since I am unable to access data.
I upgraded to 2023 awhile back. And the same thing is happening to me. I have 3 company files and can only open 1 file. When I try to switch QB shuts down.
Try to install the trial version for QBD 2023 Enterprise and run it at the same time with QBD 2023 Pro. Did you encounter the same issue?
Are you also running QBD on Win 11?
Windows 10 . Three different company files 53.4 MB , 72 MB, and 77.9 MB.
Yes that's the only way I can switch too, thank you for posting that !
Yes that's the only way I can switch too
Sorry I don't get it. Did you fix the problem? All your file sizes should be fine.
Update on this switching companies crashing 2023 Desktop. Nothing has fixed this problem except that QB has essentially forced me out of my software because my free 1-year subscription ended and I am not paying $550 per year to continue it, especially considering this crashing problem that QB has failed to correct. In order to continue with the same operations I have been doing for decades I had to convert my company file over to QB online with a monthly subscription fee. I was given 3 price levels, the cheapest being $29 per month with 50% off for 3 months. In my search for alternatives, I came across a web article claiming that the self-employed program was the cheapest. It was not originally made available to me by QB, and I have lost faith in this company. The self-employed subscription is $15 per month. I am now going through the long process of adjusting to the online version. The conversion pulled up transactions going back to 1994 that need addressing which is not something that is important to me but QB has stuck it in my side like a knife. I think all of these new challenges stem from QB trying to squeeze more money out of our pockets and they are in the driver's seat.
You were using QB Desktop 2023 Pro Plus for single user, correct?
Try installing the trial version for QB Desktop 2023 Enterprise. Did you encounter the same issue?
Why would I want to start a trial version of a $550 per year product to see if it works when the version I already have doesn't work? I see your new pricing as extortion.
I see your new pricing as extortion.
My new pricing? Do you mean their pricing?
If you didn't encounter the same issue with QB Desktop Enterprise, I can share another option to explore later..
How does it help change companies in Pro Plus? Enterprise is of no use to me. We are an agricultural business. I already get QB can't open 2 versions at once occasionally because QB 2020 is still on the computer somewhere. It would only help during the trial period anyway. I am certainly not paying for 2 versions of a platform that I am so highly unhappy!
