Call from "Quickbooks Support Team" - Fraud?

I, too, just received a call from a female with an Indian accent. She said she is calling regarding our Quickbook account. She asked for the "Accounts Payable" and said payment for our annual service was declined.  When I asked what card was declined, she said she doesn't have that information but I need to call [Removed] to get the information and renew our service. (Yeah, ok).

They call us on a monthly basis.  It's ridiculous!!

I have reported it, but no one cares, so the calls keep coming.

I just tell them they don't know what they are talking about and that our account is just fine.  If they  Continue harassing me, I just tell them I have reported them to the fraud dept.  Then they hang up.

Call from "Quickbooks Support Team" - Fraud?

Up until the rule went into place last week where Caller IDs had to be verified by the carriers, we'd get a call telling us our car's extended warranty needed to be renewed almost daily.  And then there were the various banks, where we don't have accounts, that would call with an issue on our non existent accounts.

I think it's a great step that the carriers are now able to block the calls from phones they've always knew had fake numbers attached.  But due to free enterprise they have been prohibited from blocking...  Wish Congress would get off their butts and stop protecting their cronies and just ban ALL robo calls and allow users (us) to Opt Out of ALL unsolicited calls !!!   And before you say it's "them"....  Odds are your people are just as guilty.

I received a call from the same group. I signed a contract with the group which was QB SERVICES.

It was for two years and included support. [Removed]. They were helpful with both IT and accounting issues for a couple of months. However I recently called and the number was disconnected. They were definitely an Indian Group. I also received help from a California Number.  I paid them approximately $1,500. I did think they were part of Quickbooks which they clearly are not.

I just received a call that our credit card information needed to be updated for payment to go through. Upon checking our account all billing info is correct, the expiration date is valid and there is credit on the card. The gentleman had an Indian accent and said his name was Marcus and called from [Removed]. I did not give any credit card info to him as I believe this is a scam.

Hello. I fell victim to this exact scam today and also allowed remote access to my computer. I’m terrified of what may happen as a result. Did anything bad happen to your computer or company file after you were scammed?

This same thing happened to me today as well, and since he seemed to know what my issue was (and I HAD reached out to QB support earlier in the day), I allowed him remote access.
I’ve also changed my password and done malware scans on my computer.
just wondering if anything bad happened to to your computer or company file after this incident. Please let me know!

Sorry. I thought you are using QB Desktop. You and all your users must change the password. Then monitor your audit logs from time to time over the next three months for suspicious activity. You can also consider using an automation tool to notify you via email for each invoice generation and other specific events if required.

This is still an active fraud scheme in 2022.  We were contacted at the end of November and were caught in the scam.  We are reporting it to our Attorney General in Kansas and our credit card company.  All phone numbers and emails associated with "ATS Quickbooks Support" are fraud.

I am guessing that this old scam is resurfacing. I just received a call from "ATS Quickbooks support" advising that our card/payment didn't go through. He said that it is a 2 year subscription and his name was Frank and he is the account manager. He was trying to get our Quickbooks license number (which I would not give him). I told him that that the bosses wife handled the payments and that I would send her his information and she may get back to him. His number is [removed], but it comes up as 800-services on caller ID.

Thanks for sharing @Theresaf.

You did the right thing. ATS QuickBooks Support is not affiliated with Intuit.

Call from "Quickbooks Support Team" - Fraud?

I doubt it ever went away.  It's just your number came up in the rotation of all the numbers they have.

Really sad how many people fall for this. Especially from financial people that spend all day matching expenses, invoices, bank transactions, etc., etc., to make sure they match correctly.  So why some people just give out their info, let alone PAY them is just amazing...  in a bad way.

Call from "Quickbooks Support Team" - Fraud?

If QuickBooks did not make it so difficult to get support, scammers would not have such an easy time. When I tried to get support no one was able to help me. I was transferred to your Canadian branch and when that person realized I was not in Canada he attempted to connect me to the right place and I was disconnected. I spent hours on the phone getting bounced around and no help. When I finally received a call from someone claiming to be from Quickbooks Support I fell for it. I blame QuickBooks/Intuit for this happening. A company the size of Intuit could well afford to go after these scammers and make examples of them. They could also afford to have a decent support staff.

Call from "Quickbooks Support Team" - Fraud?

Wow, that timing is really suspicious!!

Maybe one of the Employees here should privately reach out to you for the details and pass that on to the appropriate Management Team.  Sure it could have been a coincidence, but it also could be someone connected to a side Scam Job letting their friends know of a potential target.

Sorry to be skeptical, but the timing just sounds to strange not to think someone knew you were waiting for a call from Intuit.

I just received a call from Jennie X 757 at [removed] (she left me this number to return call) - number said "annonymous" when it came through on the phone.  I told her I thought my bill was already paid and I would call her back - she sounded pretty legitimate =(

Call from "Quickbooks Support Team" - Fraud?

From Email I just sent to [email address removed]

I am a CPA with clients using QBES and in having difficulty with a technical issue with QB access due to an incorrect email address I was told by the Intuit support agent that I needed to upgrade to the most current version.  He then arranged for me to make an upgrade one year payment of $2,547 to Windroot Corp as noted in the attached emails.

After getting a monthly QBES monthly invoice I questioned why I was paying annually and monthly.

This was curious in that the hosting via Right Networks and subscription to QBES Platinum were both being paid via credit card.

I checked online and with representatives from both Intuit and Right Networks both confirmed monthly billing and no record of this payment made or knowledge of Windroot Corp. https://windrootcorp.com/about-us/

I then looked up the company and called and got a person telling me they would look up the billing.  Subsequently I had two calls from the following phone numbers purporting to be representatives of Intuit.  Both later confessed to working for Windroot who says they are a ISP.

[Phone number removed]

When I told them I was going to disclose their scam to Intuit I received the attached “refund in full”

I am concerned that an employee who I contract through the QB support line is working to defraud your customers with this SCAM.

I am getting the following email from this Ronald guy too & phone calls.

"This is a reminder mail that your QuickBooks Data Services will be expiring tomorrow. Your QuickBooks Account will be suspended if there is no renewal on the account.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us at [removed] or reply to us back on the same Email."

I called QB Tuesday to make sure my service which I already pay for would not be cancelled. They assured me no, I am good but he keeps calling and sending me these emails. It does worry me.

QB should send notices letting us know to be aware of such people. The way he explained, I need it otherwise I won't be able to use multi-user and my account would be no good. It would be easy to fall for this.
