I just received a phone call from a 209 area code; I didn't pick up the call so it went to voicemail. It was someone with a very heavy (Indian?) accent calling himself Alex and stating he was from the Quickbooks support team and that he is concerned that we are not getting the latest updates nor are we synchronizing with.. here he added something unintelligible.
I have no intention of calling this guy back and am going to assume it's a scam to try to get into my QB. My question is how do we know when it's legitimately a call from Intuit; do they actually call or only email? If they do call, how does the name show on the caller id? Also, if they do call, how do we discern that it's legitimate? What are the clues that it's a scam call?
It's a scam call. Intuit wouldn't bother to call. Login to CAMPS and change your phone number.
Thanks for getting in touch with the Community, MonicaG. I appreciate your detailed information.
Typically with customer support scams, they work by convincing you there's a problem with your computer, or Intuit product, then offer to fix it. Intuit won't reach out to you to fix a problem with a computer, and if you weren't already expecting a call from Intuit, it's unlikely it was actually from an Intuit representative.
If necessary, Intuit support can help you determine if an email is from Intuit or a possible phishing email that needs to be forwarded to our security team for assessment. You can reach out to them to help you determine if it was an official call from Intuit. If so, the agent you're working with should see official notes from the agent who reached out to you on your account history.
Here's some things you can do to protect yourself from a phishing attack:
You can also check our Intuit Online Security Center for more information.
As for getting your product's latest updates, you can do so from within QuickBooks. You can refer to our Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release article.
I'll be here to help if there's any additional questions. Have an awesome Monday!
In the past, we’ve received phishing calls about our payment method not working for our QB software / services.
Today, we received a suspicious call that “Quickbooks was receiving messages that our software was not updating.”
-The phone #
-The “employee’s ID #”
-Would not verify our product license # or any part of it
-When asked what version we had installed, the answer was not correct
The connection was distant and at times broken by periods of dead silence. I disconnected the call at that point.
It's a scam.
WE RECEIVED A CALL FOR QB SUPPORT, THE LADY ON THE LINE WAS STATING THAT OUR CREDIT CARD WAS EXPIRED AND SHE WANTED TO VALIDATE OUR SUBSCRIPTION SINCE WE WERE NO LONGER GOING TO HAVE BACKUP SUPPORT, UPDATES OR ANY OTHER SUPPORT SINCE THEY SEPERATED THESE FEATURES FROM OUR ANNUAL DESKTOP SUBSCRIPTION. THEY WANTED ME TO GIVE THEM VERBAL APPROVAL. SHE WAS INSISTANT THAT I APPROVE THIS ASAP SINCE WE WERE GOING TO BE OUT OF DATE DUE TO NON PAYMENT.
@BSH16 Please refrain from screaming.
You can't even get Intuit to call you when you want them to do so.
It's a scam.
The same happened to us. The numbers we receive calls from are [Removed] and [Removed]. These people are very pushy and demanding.
I am constantly getting phone calls from [PII removed] 3 about my QB not updating....it is getting very old.
I can help you report a possible scam to our security team and share how you can upgrade your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to the latest release, VNCPT.
May I ask if you're interested in upgrading your old QBDT software? If so, and it's within 2021 or older versions, please know they're no longer supported, effective May 31, 2024. Given that, you'll have to call our Support Team so they can help you upgrade your QBDT company.
Meanwhile, if it's in 2022 or later versions, you can follow the steps provided by this article to upgrade the system: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.
On the other hand, the QuickBooks team will not contact you unless you've scheduled a call back from them. To report the potential scam, you can send it through our Privacy & Security website. Here's how:
