Hello, premierdog.
We'll encounter this error if the connection with our server was interrupted or corrupted. I have some steps you can perform so we can fix this.
Let's first start by using an incognito window and connect it from there. You can also clear your browser's cache so the system can start fresh. Additionally, make sure that the browser is updated.
If the same thing happens, you can switch to other supported browsers. It could be that the one you're currently working on has a temporary issue with QuickBooks Online.

Nothing has worked and this is so frustrating. This is something we have been able to do ourselves for a long while. Now a change...but it back to the way it was.
Hello there, lapoore.
Thanks for letting me know the results of the steps you've taken so far to resolve the Network error when trying to save new employee information.
Allow me to share another way to remove the network error message that you're getting. Here's how:
More details about handling network issues can be found in this article: What to do when a network issue error has occurred.
Also, here's an article that includes more details on how you can edit the employee's information: Add or edit an employee in Online Payroll.
Additionally, we have easy-to-access articles, webinars, and video tutorials that will help you in familiarizing the different tasks, features, and functions of QBO. Below are the following:
Get back to me with additional questions while working with payroll or anything about QuickBooks. I'd be more than happy to help. Have a good one.
None of the above has worked and support hasn't been able to fix either. So frustrating. I am having this issue when trying to add a new employee to my client's account and my client is having the same issue on her end as well. Neither of us can edit an employee's taxes.
Good morning, @lapoore.
Thanks for reaching back out and telling us your concern with saving new employee information in your QuickBooks Online account.
After reviewing this situation, I've discovered there's an ongoing investigation with this problem. With that being said, other users of QBO is having the same issue. The next step would be to contact support and get added to a list of affected users. From there, you'll be on a list to receive updates via email. Here's how:
It's that easy.
This will be the best route for you at this time. It's my priority that you're able to get back to running your business. If you have any other questions or concerns, don't hesitate to ask. Have a great weekend ahead!
Any fix on this yet? I ask because I'm getting the same error message so obviously not.
Thank you for joining the thread, @dedmonds.
Currently, the INV-59268 which pertains to the error message prompt when saving an edited employee's information is still open.
Our product engineers are now prioritizing this so you can get back to your business as soon as possible.
If you haven't contacted our phone support yet, I'd recommend reaching out to them. This way, they can add your account details to the list of affected users and provide you an update once a fix becomes available.
You can follow our updated steps on contacting them:
You can also check out our support hours to ensure that we address your concerns on time.

What is the current ETA on getting this fixed? The taxes will not be calculated correctly for my employee (Federal and State) until this error is taken care of. They are a new hire and I entered them into the system. Upon trying to add W4 information and state withholdings, I get this error and it will not save. I have an open case, but nobody can give me details on ETA.
My employee needs taxes deducted correctly and this won't happen until this is fixed. Please help!
I already have a case open as of 3 days ago. What is current ETA?
Hi, Tamra W.
We are continually looking into a permanent fix to this issue and we don't have a specific time frame yet as to when a permanent fix is available. Once you have contacted us, we'll update you time-to-time about some workarounds and a fix to this issue via email. If you haven't yet, you can follow the steps provided by my colleague ReymondO.
Once this is solved, you'll want to check out these articles that will help you set up your employees and run payroll:
Thanks for your patience about this issue. Let me know if you have other questions that I can help you with. I'm just a reply away and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
But without the W4, they won't be able to take the correct amount of taxes out. So with "continually looking for a fix" .... that means this might be months or years for a fix. How do I get my employees taxes right? I'm not sure I can tell my employees I can't do anything about correcting their taxes. W4 and AZ state withholdings is a pretty major deal when it comes to cutting their payroll checks.
We are seeing the same issue with existing employees following the intuit payroll migration to quickbooks (not our choice). Our employee data and account was NOT migrated over correctly, our company account is incorrect and we are unable to save any changes to correct our employees withholding data. I have been on the phone with support for an hour and a half with NO help on this issue. I've been told, there is an "investigation" with NO ETA or update. This is unacceptable. This failure create company files correctly and inability for employeers to correct W4 information is a complete failure of a payroll system. You are preventing us from paying our employees correctly and paying the correct withholding taxes. That is the complete purpose of a payroll system. This is NOT a network issue from the customer side, clearly, as everyone of these customers seeing this has already told you they've changed browers, refreshed, and cleared all their history. Quickbooks needs to prioritize this ASAP or risk losing customers as they are failing to provide the basic functionality of a trustworthy payroll system.
Any updates? I just added QBO payroll today and ran into this error. I can't set up any employees or move forward with payroll and this looks like an issue that's been going on for some months. Is there a workaround for this issue? Why would there not be a warning - Do Not Sign Up for QBO Payroll right now - you will not be able to add or edit any employees. If there's not a workaround, I'm going to have to find a different solution and should probably just take everything back to my QB Desktop 2019 and forget about the change to QBO. NOT a great introduction.
I hear you about your suggestion of having a notification, @TAMurph.
Saving your employee information in your QuickBooks Online Payroll (QBOP) account is my top priority here. This way, you can start handling them in your account as quickly as possible.
There is an available workaround for the Response not successful: Received status code 400 error message. And most people who came across this error solved the issue after following the given resolution.
Here's how:
2. Go to the Gear icon, then choose Payroll Settings.
3. Select Setup, then click Work Locations.
4. Click Edit, then hit Save without making any changes.
5. You should encounter an error message that the City, State, and Zip codes do not match. Go to USPS.com to validate the address.
7. Once validated, re-update the work location.
8. If there are other work locations, Edit and Save without changes to make sure none of the others are affected as well. If they are, repeat the steps above to fix them.
If you don't receive the error in Step 5, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care Team. They can re-investigate the problem and find a permanent solution. You can follow the steps described above on how to call our support. Also, make sure to contact them within business hours to ensure a swift response.
Additionally, I've included some articles that will help you obtain new hire reports, manage employee information, and other payroll tasks in QuickBooks:
Please keep in mind that you can always ask me about any topics or other processes in QuickBooks. Just drop a comment below, TAMurph. Keep safe.
I reported this 6 months ago and still no fix. I will be cancelling this QB payroll service at year's end and getting another outside service for next year. This is so ridiculous.
Same here. Both empolyer and empolyee cannot edit W-4 form. Almost half an year. Empolyee keeps asking why he cannot update his W-4. So frustrating. It always show "Network error: Response not successful: Received status code 400". I am using quickboos online from Bank of America. After quickbook updated to the new version. Problem comes!
Im having this same issue with QBO Payroll I got from Bank of America. After the change i had issues.
I was able to save the changes by making sure the Legal address and work location address were identical.
THIS! Thank You!
This is still an issue! I tried ALL recommended fixes with no luck. Finally called QBO payroll customer service and they were able to enter the W-4 info on the back end for me.
This is still an issue. I'm going to call customer support tomorrow (Monday) but I can't add a new employee and get the same error message. I tried all the recommendations in this thread. Nothing has worked. Very frustrating.
I am getting the error and have followed all the suggestions in this thread. Why is this happening? If I have to contact QB Support every time a new employee is added I'm going back to Desktop. This is unacceptable.
Hello, jerrisea.
I know how important having this issue fix. I can route you to the best support available so this will be taken care of accordingly.
Currently, our engineering team is already working on fixing this issue. Have you been added to the notification list for this investigation number INV-59268? If no, I'd suggest contacting our Payroll Team to add you to the list of affected users. I'll show you how.

Got this error today, but not back in August 2021 during the last addition. Have not figured out a workaround yet. This needs to be prioritized and fixed by QBO.
@Moderator:
Your Screen shots are out of date. QBO has not looked like that for more than 6 months.
