Hi there, oneeleven111prop.  Let me get the help you need in connecting your bank account.

Beforehand, I'd like to verify if you received some error message when trying to link your American Express Business Checking account? I appreciate you providing any additional information so I can give the most accurate details.

In the meantime, let's verify the below details before connecting your American Express Business Checking account in QuickBooks Online (QBO):

  • Correct bank name. It's important to verify the name of the bank from the list as there are some banks that have multiple names.
  • The bank might not connect to all types of accounts (for example, personal accounts vs. business accounts).
  • The bank is supported in QBO.

Once confirmed, I recommend connecting your bank account. You can visit this article for a guide: Connect your American Express Business account to QuickBooks Online.

Once bank transactions download, you can now start categorizing or matching them to straighten out your books. After that, you have the option to do your regular bank reconciliation

Keep me posted on how things go on your end. I'll be around to provide further assistance with your banking concern.

@Rob251

Utilize the trial version of MT Online to isolate the issue. It is designed to import into any bank or credit card in QuickBooks Online, so there is no specific setting needed. If the same error persists, there is an ongoing problem at your bank or connection.

Thanks for becoming part of the Community, captainblake.

I've reviewed our ongoing/solved investigations and can confirm there's currently no records of subscribers reporting that they're unable to connect their American Express checking accounts.

To verify my understanding, when you try connecting it, do you encounter any error messages?

Initially I'd recommend signing in to your account on the financial institution's website and confirm there's no messages or prompts to action on your transactions screen. If there's any, address them, sign out, then try connecting the account again in QuickBooks.

If you're still unable to connect your checking account, I'd recommend checking the browser. It's possible this could have something to do with temporary internet files. Browsing applications store these types of records, but sometimes they can cause issues with certain webpages. You can open a private window and try connecting your account again.

Here's how to access incognito mode in some of the most commonly used web browsers:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: Command Option P

If you're able to connect it while browsing privately, it's safe to say this problem's being caused by your browser. It can be fixed by clearing cached data and Intuit-specific cookies.

In the event it still won't connect while browsing in incognito mode, you'll initially want to try switching to another browsing application.

Here's a list of supported browsers:

  • Safari - version 12 or newer
  • Google Chrome - version 78 or newer
  • Mozilla Firefox - version 76 or newer
  • Microsoft Edge - version 75 or newer
  • Opera - version 68 or newer
  • Samsung - version 10 or newer

You can also check a browser's compatibility with QuickBooks by utilizing our browser health checkup tool. QuickBooks supports the current and two previous versions of browsers. If you find that you're using an unsupported version, make sure to update it to its latest release. Steps for doing so can be found on the particular company's website.

In the event you've found no problems that could be causing this with your browser, I'd recommend using a different device and/or internet connection. If it continues happening on other devices and/or internet connections, you'll want to get in touch with our Customer Care team. They'll be able to pull up the account in a secure environment, conduct further research, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.

They can be reached while you're signed in.

Here's how:

  1. Use the Help (?) icon.
  2. Click Contact Us.
  3. Enter a description of your situation in the What can we help you with? field, then hit Let's talk.
  4. Select Start messaging or Get a call.

Be sure to review their support hours so you'll know when agents are available.

For the time being, you can upload transactions manually as a workaround.

I've also included a couple detailed resources about system requirements for QuickBooks and working with bank feeds which may come in handy moving forward:

I'll be here to help if there's any additional questions. Have a great day!

I’m unable to connect my American Express Business Checking account. I was able to connect my AMEX Business Credit Card.

Hello there, and welcome to the Community, @BWV Peter.

Let's go through some recommended steps to make sure you can connect your American Express Business Checking accounts to QuickBooks Online (QBO) and manage transactions accordingly.

Before we start, I want to verify if you've encountered any error messages while connecting your American Express Business Checking accounts to QBO. This way, I can provide the exact solution for this matter.

For the time being, based on our records, there's no ongoing investigation/issue about the connection between American Express Business Checking accounts and QBO. With this, I encourage you to perform the following recommended solution:

  • Sign in to American Express Business Checking's website. This is to check your account page for messages or alerts that need your attention.
  • Connect your American Express Business Checking accounts using a private browser (incognito).
  • Clear your browser's cache and cookies. This will refresh the system and remove older data that causes viewing and performance issues.
  • Use other supported browsers to connect your American Express Business Checking account.

In case you have tried all the options above but are still unable to connect, I encourage you to reach out to our Customer Care team. They can create a case to trigger an investigation and guide you with a fix. To do this, here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QBO company.
  2. Go to the Help (?) menu.
  3. Select the Search tab.
  4. Click the Contact Us button.
  5. Enter a brief description of your concern in the What can we help you with? field.
  6. Select Continue.
  7. Choose a way to connect with us (Send a message/Chat or Get a callback/Callback).

Once you're connected, and transactions are downloaded, you have to review and categorize them to keep your financial data accurate.

Also, I encourage you to reconcile your accounts in QBO regularly (every month). This helps monitor your income and expense transactions and detect any possible errors accordingly. You may want to check out this article as your reference to guide you in doing and fixing reconciliation in QBO: Learn the reconcile workflow in QuickBooks.

Please know that I'm always ready to help if you have other banking concerns or questions about managing transactions in QBO. Take care, and have a great day, @BWV Peter.

  2. Click the Update option in the upper-right.

Repeat the above procedure three to five times to resync your connection.

I think the answer is that you cannot connect AMEX checking accounts to Quickbooks.  Don't ask me why AMEX decided to release a new product without full functionality but they did. There are other problems with AMEX checking that need to be worked out as well.

Let me share some insights about setting up an American Express Business Checking account in QuickBooks Online (QBO), Jesse39.

If you don't see the bank you want to connect with after entering the name or link, it's most likely because Intuit doesn't yet support it. Our engineers are in charge of making changes to our Online Banking processes, such as supporting banks that are not yet affiliated with us. I recommend sending a request through banking to expedite the process. This information will be forwarded on your behalf to the appropriate support team. Here's how it's done:

  1. Go to the Banking menu or Transactions menu.
  2. Select Add account.
  3. Choose Request support for your bank.
  4. Enter your bank's web address (URL) in the field provided, then select Request.

Here's an article you can refer to for more details: Connecting your American Express Business account to QuickBooks Online. As a workaround, you can download transactions from your bank's website manually by uploading them to the program. Let me guide you on how:

  1. In QuickBooks Online, go to the Banking menu or Transactions menu.
  2. Click on Upload transactions.
  3. Select Browse and then select the file you downloaded from your bank. Then select Next.
  4. In the QuickBooks account dropdown, select the account you want to upload the transactions into. Then press Next.

You can check out this article for the steps and details about getting transactions from your bank or credit cards: Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online. When you're able to see the accounts with the downloaded bank entries, you can start categorizing them for your books. Check this article to guide you through the process: Categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

I'm also adding this link in case you need help managing bank-related tasks: Find help with bank feeds and reconciling accounts.

Please get back if you have other QuickBooks banking concerns. I'm still here to help. Take care always, and more power to your institution!
