I'd like to know the QuickBooks Online (QBO) version you're using, @johnzaffarano.
Some reports are not available in other QBO version. Profit and Loss Detail report is available in QBO Essentials, Plus, and Advanced. The Simple Start plan doesn't have the Profit and Loss Detail report.
Here is an article about the reports available for each QBO version: Reports included in your QuickBooks Online subscription.
If you want to upgrade your subscription to have this report, check this article as your reference for the detailed process: Upgrade or downgrade your QuickBooks Online subscription.
After upgrading, you can then run the Profit and Loss Detail report. To customize your report, check this article: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online.

It's version 5.1.0. Please see attached.
When I click on "check for updates", I receive the message I am up to date and there are no other updates at this time.
Not all reports show in some QuickBooks Plan, @johnzaffarano.
I apologize for the confusion. When I said version, what I mean QuickBooks plan. I recommend checking your subscription as Profit and Loss Detail report is not available in Simple Start.
Here's how:
Also, I'd like to know if you are using QuickBooks Online Desktop app, as shown in your screenshot. If so, that can be the reason why some of the reports are not showing even if you are not using the Simple Start plan.
Since the QuickBooks Online Desktop app is discontinued, I suggest logging in to your QuickBooks Online account using supported browser. You can then run the report.

I am having the same problem. I am using Quickbooks Online Plus. How do I check to see if I have desktop edition? I've tried everything else.
I took over the use from someone else at our non profit and they are unavailable to show me anything they did in the past. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

While QuickBooks Desktop is an accounting program that is installed locally and has a yearly subscription price structure, QuickBooks Online is an accounting application that is hosted online under the software as a service" concept.
Naturally, when you take over from someone else at a non-profit and they are unavailable to show you anything they did in the past. Both are separate platforms.
You may utilize this article to learn some of the differences between the two versions: QuickBooks Online vs. Desktop.

It is extremely obnoxious that QBO does not allow all QBO plans access to the Profit & Loss Detail report. That is one of the most basic and essential reports that a business needs. QBO is just trying to milk more money out of us. It is obnoxious.
This is a discusting practice. This is a basic report that should be available on all versions. Quickbooks is going down hill.
But I have QBO Advanced, which means I should have this option and I do not. Please advise. I've been trying to find this for months.
Thank you for joining the conversation, Operrra.
You're right that the Profit and Loss Detail report should be available in QuickBooks Online Advanced, as it is the premium product in all online versions.
I can see that my colleague, Mirriam, has already provided the correct steps to run the said report and added a few related references as well. At this point, we'd better have your QBO company checked by our QBO Advanced Support. This way, we will know why Profit and Loss Detail is not available to you.
You can also check about creating custom reports in QuickBooks Online Advanced for your additional reference.
I'm only a comment away if you need more assistance with reports. Take care and have a good one.
I found out how to do this by accident in the basic plan. I ran a regular p&l for the year, then went to the total at the bottom under net income and clicked on it, and it took me straight to a p&l detail report. I agree it's annoying it's not easily available for users but I hope this helps you!

Thank you! I ended up upgrading to the next level of QB and was able to detail but good to know your tip. Much appreciated!
Hi Miriam,
I need to run the same report - DETAILED P&L - but it is no longer showing under Business Overview. Please let me know how I can generate this report. Thank you, Neil

Thanks for the tip on how to find the detail. I tried it and it worked and then I saved the customized report.
I suppose since Intuit knows about this now they will cripple it. Detail P&L is absolutely essential for tax preparation and defense of income and deductions. Crippling QB is greedy and exploitive.
I am looking at WAVE as an alternative. Ive use QB since the mid nineties but I hate it now.
it looks like they closed that loophole.
Ok. After making 3 QBO support calls (they can't figure it out), and 2 hours of my time. I found a work around. Not perfect but beats manually modifying 10,000 Excel rows.
Good for identifying any mis-categorized transaction from the Profit and Loss Report.
NOTE: only works if you click on the "Total Expenses" line.
Steps:
1) Run the normal Profit and Loss Report
2) Click on the amounts on the "Total Expenses" line item.
3) Click Group By at the top and click "Clear all"
4) Click Save As so it'll be a customized report.
5) Optional. Click "Columns" if you want to hide, show, reorder columns.
