I am using QB Online and was updated to the new invoicing format. I need to convert back to the old format so that I can complete existing progress invoices. How?

Help mentioned you can revert to the old style invoicing to continue with progress invoicing, but when you click on the link they provide, it has nothing to do with reverting back to the old invoicing style.

I have solved my particular issue. One of the recent updates must have disabled the progress invoicing option. I found it switched to "off". Once I enabled it I was able to once again generate progress invoices.

Welcome to the Community, @acp06877.

I assure you I can help you on switching back to your old layout of your invoices.

In QuickBooks Online, there's a certain users are unable to switch back to the old layout. If you still have the option to switch back to your old layout. You can follow these steps:

  1. At the left navigation panel, select Sales.
  2. Click Invoices.
  3. Select a customer, then click Edit.
  4. Click Old layout.
  5. There's a prompt message will pop up on your screen, then Click Switch layout.

However, if you don't have the option to switch back to the ol layout. Know that we value your thoughts and suggestions about the new invoice. If you're one of these users, we can send feedback to our Developers team.

Here's how to do it:

  1. In your invoice, click Feedback.
  2. Type your concerns or comments on the space provided.
  3. Click Submit feedback.

Feel free to read this article for more details about the new Invoices: See what's new with estimates and invoices in QuickBooks Online.

When you want to make eye-catching sales forms, I'll drop an article for it: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

Let me know if you have other concerns regarding Invoices. I'm always around to help.

Can you clarify your directions with screen shots? I seem to be one of those people that may not be able to go back. But if I am I can't tell because I am not seeing exactly what you are describing.

My issue is that I have at least one customer that I have invoices for 2 out of 4 payments and I cannot use progress payments from the open estimate to complete the rest of the invoicing.

Since being converted to the new invoicing format, we can no longer send 1 client 1 invoice for the month with multiple projects on it.  These are not progress tracking projects, just project codes for the client to assign expenses.  It is very problematic for us.

I understand the importance of being able to send one invoice per client with multiple projects, atwellCPA.

In QuickBooks, the feature that you wanted is not available as of now. I recommend you send a feedback so that our developer's team will know and will work on it.

Here's how:

  1.  Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Under the Profile column, look for Feedback
  3. Enter your comments or ideas in the space provided.
  4. Hit Submit Feedback

As a workaround, you can manually create your invoice and assign it to your projects.

Here's how:

  1. Go to +New
  2. Under the Customers column, choose Invoice.
  3. In the Customer dropdown, select the name of your customer or project to whom you want to assign your invoice.
  4. Fill out the fields provided.
  5. Click Save and Close

Moreover, you may want to dig deeper into creating and managing projects in QuickBooks Online. You may also want to customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online

If you ever come across any more concerns or ideas regarding invoices, you're always welcome to reach out. I'm here to help you and address any questions you may have.

I also cannot see where to click "Old layout" and when I go to my old invoices, my excise tax has disappeared and when I create new invoices, there is no where for me to put the excise tax.

Hi there, Gofast944.

I understand the importance of switching back to the old layout for your invoices in QuickBooks Online (QBO). However, the option to switch back to the old layout may not be available as we've rolled out this new invoice experience.

For more detailed information, please visit these links:

As for your other concern, the excise tax should show on the old created invoices. To further isolate why it's not showing, we can narrow it down by performing basic troubleshooting to refresh your QBO account.

To begin, log in to your QBO account via incognito mode or a private window. This way, it confirms if the cache is the cause.

Here's how:

  • Press Ctrl Shift (Google Chrome).
  • Ctrl Shift (Firefox).
  • Control Option (Safari).

Once logged in, try to check if excise tax is now showing on the old invoices. If yes, go to your default browser and clear the cache. See Clear cache and cookies to fix issues when using QuickBooks Online for more information.

Otherwise, switch to a different browser like Firefox, Google Chrome, or Safari. The one you are currently on may be having a temporary issue with QuickBooks, and using a new browser for the moment will allow you to get back to work.

You may also visit this resource to know what computer and browser you need for the best QuickBooks experience: System requirements for QuickBooks Online, Accountant, and QuickBooks Self-Employed.

For future reference, you can follow this resource for the steps involved in recording payments: Record invoice payments in QuickBooks Online.

Don't hesitate to reply anytime if you still have questions or concerns about managing invoices. I am always here to help.

How and where did you find this "OFF" switch?  Our entire 25 years of QB clients has been compromised by the most recent invoice change, as we get error code after error code when trying to duplicate older invoices into new invoices and send to clients.  It will not allow it on many.  No solutions given in a dozen calls to reps.  Help!

Welcome to the Community, @barronarts. Let's find out why this is happening, so we can fix the issue.

But before we start, I need more information to help me get on the same page. Would you mind telling me more about it? Like, what specific error coded when trying to duplicate older invoices into new invoices and send to clients.? This way, I can provide you with an accurate resolution.

In the meantime, I know you've already contacted our support team. However, I would still suggest you get in touch with them again. They have the tools to check your account and can share updates on the case opened.

You can contact our Support team by following these steps:

  1. In your QuickBooks Online account, click Help (?).
  2. Choose the Search tab, then select Contact Us.
  3. Determine how you would like to connect with an expert: Start a chat or Get a callback.
