I have sales income but it does not show up on the dashboard as sales. Why

I'm confused on what quickbooks actually considers sales.  I read one answer that said the dashboard only considers bank deposits as sales. Is that correct?

Hello there gnilles,

I'd be glad to provide some information about the sales graph shown in the Dashboard.

The amounts on your Sales graph in the dashboard are based on the sales transactions in your account for the period specified. This will not include journal entries posted to your sales accounts and the calculated sales taxes.

Let's double-check the amount shown on your sales graph. You'll need to first make sure you filter its report dates correctly by clicking the This month drop-down arrow.

Once done, run the Sales by Customer Summary report to check the details of your Sales graph. Here's how you can open the report:

  1. Click Reports in the left navigation bar.
  2. Enter Sales by Customer Summary.
  3. Change the Report period at the top.
  4. Click Run Report.
Let me know how it goes. If you need any other help, we're happy to do it here in the Community.

I have the same problem  my dashboard shows $0 in revenue?  I do not invoice revenue we have a have a software platform and when it is used it automatically deposits into my account.  So the deposits are added to the revenue account.  this should show up as sales revenue?  what is wrong?

I have the same issue.  We are a Real Estate Funding company and we do almost all income as a journal entry at closing.  None of these sales, not one show up on the dashboard freaking my boss out every time he logs in.  Only INVOICED sales are included.  I want to either correct it, or get it the hell of the dashboard where it does nothing but confuse users.

I believe the graphs and figures on the dashboard are "Cash" based not "Accrual" based.

It would be nice to have some customization on this, as I like to look at certain financials on an Accrual basis rather than Cash.

After I commented on this I did some digging, and when I changed my Accounting method in the Company Settings to Accrual it updated the dashboard to Accrual reporting.

Problem solved for me!

Intuit strikes again - totally counterINTUITive! I sometimes wonder if any of the people there have ever run a business. "Sales" should show just that - sales - not just "sales entered while typing with your left hand and blindfolded," because that's what the QB developer decided. "Sales" should correspond directly to the chart of accounts and any sub-account of it, regardless of how it was entered. Likewise with . That said, I have zero confidence it will ever be changed. It seems that, architecturally, many bad design decisions were made while developing both QB Desktop and QB Online, and things like that are hard to change.

Thanks for writing with us today, gcdb,

I see your point here and I appreciate you for sharing your preference with the Sales statistics on the QuickBooks Dashboard. Being able to associate all sales related transactions on the sales graph is a great idea we can add in QuickBooks.

While this isn't an option right now, you can submit a request to our developers to let them know this is something you'd love to see. Here's how to submit your preference:

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Select Feedback.
  3. Enter your feedback and suggestions.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Select Feedback for the Category.
  6. Click Send message.

I'd be more than happy to bring this up with the team, and I'll do the same thing in my end to reinforce your request. You may also track your suggestion through this website: https://feedback.qbo.intuit.com/

That should do it, gcdb. Your request goes directly to our developers who consider feedback for future QuickBooks enhancements.

Please notify me if you need further assistance. I'm here to lend you a hand anytime. All the best!

I with you on that.  I record via journal entries also.   This product is worthless to me.   For me to start making up invoices to record sales is insane.   I could do an excel spreadsheet and do it quicker.

Hi @DJW1,

Allow me to share a little more information about your Sales in your Dashboard.

The same as mentioned by my colleague, @VivienJ, the amounts in your Sales graph for the period you've selected is for all your sales transactions. These are your customers' paid invoices and sales receipts.

In addition, here's an article you may want to read in any of your available time: An Introduction to the Home Dashboard.

Please let me know if you have any other questions about your sales. It'll always be my pleasure to help.

Why would Intuit call an Account "Sales", let us input a deposit as "Sales" and "Income", then ignore it when displaying on your dashboard widget summary? This is the definition of bad software, bad UI/UX, and finally, as demonstrated here, careless customer support.

Thanks for joining this conversation, @dliub.

I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts on this. Allow me to chime in and help make sure that your concern about the dashboard sales is taken care of.

As mentioned by my colleagues above, the dashboard sales summary is based on the sales transactions in your account for the period specified (invoices and sales receipts). This will not include journal entries and bank deposits. However, it's counted on your Profit & Loss report.

This isn't the impression that I'd like for you to be left with. Rest assured that I'm making it my top priority that your suggestion reaches our Development Team.

Thanks for your understanding and patience while we look into this. Please post let me know if I can be of additional assistance or should you have follow-up questions. I'll be here to help. Have a good one!

Agreed. We are a small non-profit who just imported our financial data for the past 4 years into QB. None of these transactions are showing in Sales reporting. Sales by Customer reporting would be very valuable information for us. Unfortunately, it is showing as if we have $0 sales...please have your development team get on this issue.

I am having the same issue. $0 in sales showing up despite all of our revenue being listed correctly. Fix this issue right now. This is such a waste of money, I'm sure other companies wouldn't make such a huge design flaw...

This is the same issue I am running into, it needs to be displayed in the report because I am categorizing it as a "Sale" and by a "Customer". This is definitely a tripping point for a lot of people and my accountant just shook his head on quickbooks...a lot of features aren't working great (receipts, capturing data on charts, etc.). Quickbooks needs to figure this out soon and strive to be the best.....

Its only a matter of time for other programs to be more appealing, like Waveapp

I have sales income but it does not show up on the dashboard as sales. Why

please let us know the status of this request. Seems a lot of customers need this seemingly basic feature. I have spent a few weeks testing and trying to find a workaround but nothing works without breaking something else. Wasted a lot of time because I really wanted to use quickbooks online but my frustration has mounted to an almost gave up state. Intuit is basically neglecting online stores and customers that don't use the invoicing feature. A sale is a sale, and if we categorize a deposit as a sale, it's because we KNOW it was a sale and should show up in the sales dashboard. Please fast track this and let us know where it's at in development. This is a very much needed features as not all of us invoice customers!!! IN fact most online store owners and other companies DO NOT invoice customers. I cannot continue with quickbooks online and pay for a service that doesn't include this basic feature or I have to perform all these workarounds in order to see one thing. Please allow all sales to show in the sales dashboard and report. And tell us how we can be posted on the status of this feature request. It's super important!

I have sales income but it does not show up on the dashboard as sales. Why

Interesting thread - I've just spent a very unproductive couple of hours trying to work out why my sales were zero but profit and loss was correct. I get a substantial amount of my income through Airbnb and Tripadvisor as a holiday letting business so we don't raise invoices - after the guest has arrived the money is deposited in my account. Given that it looks like this was first raised sometime ago and is still an issue probably means that I need to use something else as I'm still in the early stages of using this product Thanks anyway

@Rose-A , I wanted to follow up on this. You posted the link to see updates on quickbooks but this is general and just says what's new any given month - if there is something new, but it doesn't show me if THIS specific request is being looked at, how serious quickbooks is about it, or where it's at in the implementation process. So looks like unless we see it finally show up in a blog post of "What's New This Month" - who knows when - it's quick to assume it's been forgotten and swept under the rug.  IS there any way we can see if this feature is indeed going to be updated?? It's obviously important to a lot of your customers and I actually had to pause my subscription and will be coming back only when this is implemented. That's why I wanted to check in.

Hi, yvy1.

I appreciate you getting back to me. I'd like to share some updates about the feature request status.

I hear you and realize the importance that this feature can have to your business. Currently, our developers haven't added this feature yet and we aren't able to tell when this will be available.

It is always our aim to develop relevant features that came from customer's feedback. As a team with a massive roadmap, we have to pick new features based on the value they’ll add to the most users possible.

I'll do my part and raise this concern to our Developers so you're able to reach a point of resolution as quickly as possible. What we can do for now is to keep an eye for our monthly product updates through this link: https://www.firmofthefuture.com/product-industry-news/product-updates/.

For some "How do I" steps in QuickBooks Online, you can always visit our Help Articles page for reference.

Please extend your patience while we launch the product updates to all QuickBooks Online users. If you have additional QuickBooks questions, please let me know.

The whole point of having a DASHBOARD is to get a quick glance WITHOUT having to run a report each time.  WHY would QB/Intuit not understand this simple concept?  If a deposit is coded Sales or a Journal entry is coded Sales....common sense says both of those would show up on the Dashboard under.......SALES.  And no, you'd be incorrect.  So I have no idea what the point of a SALES section is on a Dashboard.

I can see your point here, enginecompanylea.

The dashboard sales summary will depend on the sales transactions in your account. These are your customer’s paid invoices and sales receipts.

This will not include journal entries and bank deposits.

For more information about the Dashboard tab, you can check this article: An introduction to the home dashboard.

I’m still here if you have additional questions about your QuickBooks account.

Hello, Just to add to this conversation and to the development team.  The same issues are in the reports under "sales by..."  in my case 'by class'.

Square will NOT download to a class, so I have to use a JE to move items from Not Specified to the correct class.  When I run the Transaction Report or Account Quickreport the balances and detail include the JEs and are correct (as is P&L), but when I run a Sales by class the JEs don't show up and the report is completely useless, since I run it to see if everything was moved to the correct classes and if there is anything remaining in the Not Specified.

We should at least have an Option to Customized the report and add in the JEs to the custom report, otherwise all of the Sales by... reports are not useable at all.  I don't know if the programing on the sales dashboard could also add in this customization, but I am sure the reports could!
