I want to creat a bill based on timesheets. I have created a weekly timeseet and marked it billiable. How can I create a bill for that contractor importing the time?

Good afternoon, @tallen2.

Thank you for reaching out to the Community. I'd be glad to lend a hand withing billing your weekly timesheets.

Since you've already created a weekly timesheet, you can create an invoice if your business charges by the hour.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the New + icon in the left-hand corner.
  2. Enter the customer's name.
  3. Click on Add All. Tip: Repeat this as needed for others as well.

Here's a screenshot as an example:

For more information about billing time through timesheets, refer back to this article: Adding Employee Time to Invoice through T-Sheets

If you have any more questions or concerns, I'm only a few clicks away. Have a safe and productive rest of your week!

Thanks for the response.  I get that i can create invoices to my customer using that time (Accounts Receivable).  I also need to create Bills for my contractors for this time (Account Payable).  In the desktop version, when you create a Bill and pick a vendor that has weekly timesheets already etered, it allows you to import that time based on a date range, instead of having to manually look up those hours and enter them manually.  Can I do this in the online version?

I'll help you with creating bills for your vendors, tallen2.

Currently, the option to directly add the information from a weekly/single timesheet to a bill is unavailable in QuickBooks Online. We can only do it in QuickBooks Desktop as of now. Please know that your voice matters to us. At times, we roll out product enhancements based on our customers' requests. Rest assured, I'll take note of your suggestion and submit this to our product engineers for consideration.

For now, we can manually create the bill and pull up the Recent/Edited Time Activities Report for reference. We'll have to multiply the number of hours by the hourly rate you pay your vendor. If the timesheet entries are billable, the Amount column will show what you are charging to your vendor. You can follow the step that I've listed below.

Accessing the report:

  1. Select Reports from the sidebar menu.
  2. Enter Time Activities by Employee Detail in the search bar.
  3. Click Customize.
  4. Select a time period under Time Activity Date and adjust the dates or enter the date range in the fields.
  5. In the Filter section, from the Employee drop-down list, check the vendor name.
  6. Hit Run Report.

Creating a bill:

  1. Click the + New icon.
  2. Select Bill.
  3. From the Vendor drop-down menu, select the appropriate vendor.
  4. Enter the necessary information.
  5. When you're ready, hit Save and close.

As we assess this opportunity, I encourage visiting our blog to stay current with all the QuickBooks News.

If you need to create an invoice to your vendors, you can follow the steps above provided by my colleague Kendra H.

Please know that the Community is open 2/7 and always ready to help if you have any other concerns or questions about vendors. As always, assistance is just a post away.

Thanks for the info.  Unfortunately, this is a deal breaker for me.  Not having the ability to import time in to Bills creates a good bit more work for me as I have over 30 contractors that I have to create BIlls for each period.  It also increases the risks of fat fingering / mistyping the hours.

Do you have any idea when this feature will be added to the online version?

Thanks for getting back to the Community, @tallen2.

I appreciate your input from every angle. I know the importance of having this feature be available on your end. Right now, there isn't an exact time frame on when this will be implemented. Rest assured that I'll pass along your suggestion to our Product Developers. They're always looking for ideas to consider on how to improve QuickBooks Online (QBO).

In the meantime, I recommend visiting our Blog site to learn what new updates are being rolled out, as well as additional references while working with QuickBooks.

Hello, do you have any updates on this issue? I have the same problem. I want to create bill for my contractor so I can book the AP based on their individual time tracker. It is time consuming to do time tracking and do another individual bills.  I need to identify each bills for an event tracker which I currently do by putting 'tags' on customer's invoices and vendor's bill. Thanks in advance.

Hi, princessarayata.

I know how important it is to directly add the information from a weekly/single timesheet to a bill. However, we haven't added this feature yet.

While QuickBooks aims to find new ways to make sure that your product meets your needs, I'll be sure to take note of this idea for future enhancements.

For now, you can visit our QuickBooks blog and register for our Newsletter. This way, you’ll receive email updates about new product changes and hopefully, this feature would be one of them.

Here's how to register to our Newsletter:

  1. On your QuickBooks Online account, click the User icon at the upper right corner and select Manage your Intuit Account.
  2. Tap Data & Privacy in the left panel.
  3. Select QuickBooks.
  4. Turn on QuickBooks Newsletter.

Once enabled, all updates will be delivered straight to your inbox. Know that you can always visit our Help Articles page for QuickBooks Online in case you need some reference for your future tasks.

If I can be of help while working in QuickBooks, please let me know. I'll be here to help. Have a good one!

The last of this basic feature is ridiculous. It is a deal breaker for me as well.  QBO is so far behind QBD that it is not even in the same league.

Why is this not a standard feature?  I see updates all of the time that don't have a fraction of utility compared to automatically creating contractor bills.  Seems like a no-brainer given the importance of contractors in small business.  When I started using QBO I could not imagine that this would not be a feature.

Hello there, @WBaugh.

I can see the importance of the product suggestion you've pointed out. I'd recommend sending feedback to our product developers so they can assess this for future enhancements of QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Here's how you can send feedback:

1. Go to the Gear Icon.

2. Click Feedback.

3. Enter your comments or product suggestions.

4. Select Next to submit feedback.

You can check our Firm of the Future page to see more of the latest product updates of QuickBooks.

I'd also encourage checking our Help articles page to learn some tips and tricks in managing your QBO account. From there, you can read great articles that can guide you through the steps by steps process.

Please know that you're always welcome to post in QuickBooks Community if you have any other concerns.

Thank you for joining this thread, EstesBabe.

I recognize the importance of being able to import the created timesheets to your bills. This feature saves time and lets you perform other tasks because you no longer have to manually input the information.

I’m unable to provide a definite time frame when this will be available. Rest assured, we’re looking into this one for consideration in future updates.

I still suggest you manually input the timesheet data into the bill. This is to keep track of your vendors' or contractors working hours. For more details, you can read this article: Track and manage timesheets in QuickBooks Online. It includes instructions on how to view or edit time in the program.

Also, the following resource provides information about adjusting your time tracking preferences: Turn on and set up time tracking. You’ll see the steps to add a time tracking user, ways to add time details, and so on.

Keep me posted below if you have additional concerns about tracking timesheet data. I’ll be around to get this taken care of for you. Have a great weekend ahead.

If I input the time manually, will it double count the time? It is flowing from QBTime automatically in to the Projects dashboard already. If it input it again for the bill where do I put it? I DO NOT want to double count.

I’m here to clarify your concern about adding time to a bill, @EstesBabe.

I’m please to let you know that manually creating a bill won’t duplicate the time. You’ll just have to enter the hours as quantity on the bill including the rate in the Item details dropdown.

Here’s how:

  1. Go to the +New and select Bill under the Vendors section.
  2. Enter the Vendor namedate, and other needed details.
  3. Enter the time or hours in the quantity (QTY) and Rate.
  4. Tick the Billable field.
  5. Hit Save or Save and Close.

For your visual reference, I’ve added some snapshots below:

More than 2 years after people complaining about this critical feature and nothing. What a pathetic offering. I can't believe I just assumed this product wasn't a complete dumpster fire. I'm going back to desktop.

Has this feature been added to QB Online yet.  My desktop version is about to be unsupported next month.  I raised this shortcoming of the online version like 3 years ago.  I'm hoping this has been added?  please let me know.

Thanks for getting back with the Community, tallen2.

I can certainly understand how an ability to create bills automatically based on data from timesheets could be useful and have submitted a suggestion about it as of today.

You can also submit your own feature requests while signed in.

Here's how:

  1. Use the Gear icon, then go to Feedback.
  2. Enter your suggestion(s) in the Have feedback? window.
  3. If necessary, attach a file with your Camera icon.
  4. Select Next.

Your feedback's definitely valuable to Intuit. It will be reviewed by our Product Development team and considered in future updates. You can stay up-to-date with the latest news about your product by reviewing Intuit's Product Updates webpage.

For the time being, you can manually create bills using data from your timesheets.

If there's any additional questions, I'm just a post away. Have a great day!
