I was able to print after resetting the updates. Phew.
I don't have the payroll service, so I cannot get payroll updates. Why would I need that for NEC which are for NON-Employees?
Hello, MicheleA.
You need to have an active payroll to be able to file your 1099NEC inside QuickBooks and also to be able to update your QuickBooks to process your 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC forms.
For more information about the 1099-NEC process, I recommend going through these articles:
If you have additional questions about 1099-NEC, please let me know. This way, I'll be able to assist you. Stay safe!
Did you get this fixed? If you did how did you do it? None of these procedures have worked for me.
Hello, @WDC. I'll be adding information.
I appreciate you looking for more details to allow QuickBooks to print the 1099 NEC. It's my priority to let you print the 3 to a page 1099 NEC before the deadline.
It will print the form successfully when QuickBooks is updated to the latest required release and have the latest tax table.
Specifically, here are the required versions to successfully print 1099 NEC
For Windows:
For Mac:
Would you like to check your QuickBooks Desktop release version? Please press F2 while QuickBooks Desktop is running.
Once done, follow these steps to download the Critical Fixes and ensure the Reset Update box is checked to get the updates.
After this process, make sure to install the latest update by clicking Yes. In addition, make sure to remap the accounts and omit all mapping under the MISC tab. Doing this will cause you to remap NEC and MISC accounts again and be able to print the 3 to a page 1099-NEC form.
In case wanted to check some updates and information about 1099, you can check the Get answers to your 1099 questions article.
I'll be checking this thread moving forward. If you have additional questions, feel free to dive in and drop a comment. We'll help you all the way. Have a nice day ahead!
Been on the phone with Quickbooks 3 times today. Major issues with 1099's, that's for sure. Shame on them! They've been around long enough to get this right. I STILL cannot print Forms B or C. Currently been on hold for over an hour waiting for someone to figure this out.
I am having this same problem and I am on a Windows 10 computer. I bought all the forms from office max about $70 worth included envelopes so I would easily do this and get them in the mail. If I have to do this by hand I should have ordered the free ones from the government. I really hopes Intuit can fix this, this is so unacceptable.
I need this issue fixed - please help.
Printing issue fixed! I had to activate the Payroll features within QuickBooks to be able to print the 1099-NECs. After activating Payroll I then ran the Payroll Updates within QuickBooks. Apparently the 1099-NEC is tied to the Payroll feature somehow. This is another issued that should be addressed by Intuit - I will not be using the Payroll feature, but at least I can print 1099's now!
1099-NEC no print solution for me:
I was having the same problems, and one the phone with Customer Support a very long time.
I did however change the Omit Box to NEC Box 1:
This fixed the problem and everything printed for me.
My machine is running Windows 10 and they still won't print. Tried to run the fix and it just grinds away and never stops.
Upgraded all my clients to 2022 and cannot print the 1099 NEC 3 up forms and the mapping is not working either- a whole group of accounts is mapped to the wrong box and grayed out and will not let me change them at all. Something is super messed up and it is NOT FIXED. I have been a Pro Advisor for a loooonnnnnngggg time and QuickBooks has a lot of my money. It is totally unacceptable for me to have to do manual forms for dozens of clients. When is this going to be fixed? We cannot wait until the last minute to do this work. WHEN IS THIS GOING TO BE FIXED?
Thank you for letting us know, nr1.
I understand urgency in generating and printing 1099 forms for your clients.
As I've checked our system the most recent update for QuickBooks Desktop 2022 is the Release 3 (R3). You'll need to make sure you have the latest release to generate and print the 1099 forms. Here's an article for more information: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.
If you already have the latest release but still encounter some issues, I recommend contacting our Support Team to investigate why the latest updates still not printing forms as expected.

I have tried everything in this thread, including ordering payroll. Nothing works. I can print but the forms are misaligned. When I attempt to align the form QuickBooks closes on me.
HELP!!!!!
I have Windows 10 and still am in QBDT Pro 2021 and can not print 1099's at all I really am getting fed up with Quickbooks...It seems EVERY year there is some stupid problem or another...I am looking to find another program Quickbooks is getting more and more expensive with more and more problems.
I have updated three times and I still cannot print the 3 part MISC-NEC. Still previews 2 part form. I need a fix ASAP!!
After a culmination of all the suggestions in this thread, We activated the payroll for this client, updated all the payroll updates etc..., restarted Quickbooks, Restarted computer, Changed the OMIT scree to NEC box 1 we finally got them printed. Now onto the other 5 clients with 1099's UGGGGGH!
What version are you running? I have done this all multiple times including yesterday and still cannot print them. I have called twice for support and go through all the same steps with them and still no luck and at the end of the call they always say, "Oh I am so sorry, but our technical team is still working on the update for 2022." Thanks once again Intuit for wasting my time, which is in short supply!
I'm running Windows 10 and then my quickbooks is the 2021 Contractor's edition. I upgrade every other year and had just upgraded to 2021 a month or two ago so not real interested in having to upgrade yet again and pay the bucks for it. Did my 1099 NEC's last year with no problem at all. This year I have done everything I can think of and finally given up and sent the info to our accountant and asked him to print them. Will cost me a heck of a lot less than activating a payroll feature (which makes no sense at all when you're talking NEC's) or upgrading to 2022 version of the contractor's edition. Plus I didn't feel like there were any guarantees that it would work even if I did that. Good luck!! Time is moving by quickly to have them out.
Let me try this reply again and if it posts twice I apologize but I'm not seeing it. I'm running Windows 10 with 2021 Quickbooks Pro Contractor's edition. I only upgrade every other year and had just upgraded to 2021 a month or so ago. I don't understand at all why turning on payroll would be required when talking about NEC's. I upgraded everything as far as fixes and was able to print the report and do all of that but when it came down to the actual printing it was still printing 2 to a page. I don't think we should be required to upgrade Quickbooks versions and spend an additional $500+ just to do this. The fixes should be included in whatever version you're running IMO. I finally just gave up and sent the info to our accountant as that will cost much less than paying to turn on payroll and paying again to upgrade to 2022 version of Quickbooks. There's not that many updates and features to even make that worthwhile. Good luck!!! We're fast running out of time to get the 1099's done.
Looks like the update is in and I finally found some help on my 1099 mapping being stuck on State withheld mapping.
I had to go into the 1099-misc mapping and select Omit these payments, then save and close, then go back into 1099-nec mapping and I could then select Box 1- non-employee compensation. Thank goodness for this community or I would have been on a way too long support call tomorrow.
Windows 10, QBDT 2021 PRO... Be sure to change the omits on the one screen to NEC box 1
I just did the update and still not working. Its says I don't have the correct font??
How to you activate payroll?
