Virginia Unemployment Form for 4th quarter 2023 is being rejected by QuickBooks. Error says being filed too late. Apparently Intuit has not updated their program that we are now filing 4th quarter 2023 and not 3rd quarter any more.
I am having the very same issue. I spent a total of 6 hours between Quickbooks Tech support ant the Virginia Em ployment Commission. I informed the tech that it is a PROGRAMMING ISSUE and they can't seem to fix it. I have to manually go online to VEC and file the report and pay the 4th qtr 2023 tax.
Who can I contact to fix this?
Welcome to the Community space, @VBS and @Zonnie0301.
I see how challenging it is on your end to file the Virginia Unemployment Form for the 4th quarter of 2023. Let me guide you on how to handle payroll e-file rejections.
There are possible reasons why your unemployment form was rejected. These are:
If it's a tax deposit or the filing schedule is incorrect, it means your IRS or state tax deposit schedule or filing schedule was changed by the agency, and the form was sent at the wrong time. You can follow these steps to fix it:
You can read through this article for more info: Handle payroll e-file and e-pay rejections.
Once done submitting, you can read this article to check the status of your filed form: Check the status of your payroll tax payments or filings sent through QuickBooks Payroll.
Feel free to come back here if you have additional questions about filing your unemployment tax form. I'll be willing to lend a hand. Have a good one.
I'm not a newbie to QBks! You need to bring this to the attention of the "Payroll Processing" program techs asap.
There is A PROBLEM with the QuickBooks Virginia Unemployment Tax payment "toggle switch" in the program. Someone has not updated the program that the 4th quarter VEC-FC-20 can be filed NOW. All other 4th quarter and end of year forms are processing correctly .... so far with all the others I've processed. I haven't processed any other state unemployment filings yet.
Going to be a real pain in the tush if Intuit doesn't fix this. I have over 40 clients to do VEC-FC-20 filings. We pay good money to Intuit to have their programs process properly for us.
This is NOT the agency rejecting the submission, this error is Quickbooks saying it can't file because the "return WILL be rejected.... agency doesn't accept this form before the start of the 3rd quarter..."
We aren't trying to file 3rd quarter, we are trying to file 4th quarter.
We are having the same issue. Please Intuit, fix this as quickly as possible! The longer you wait, the more strain we have on this end. And having to do all of these reports directly to the VEC website is not an option we want to entertain at all.
Having the same issue!! Quickbooks please get the programming fixed ASAP!!

Me as well. I spent 2:54 min on a call with Intuit on 01/02/24 trying to troubleshoot. Rep told me it was a programming issue so we will have to wait until they fix it.
AnneMariee, I updated my Quickbooks software and this issue is still not fixed. I am currently using Quickbooks Enterprise Solutions : Manufacturing & Wholesale 21.0. Please have your team get this fixed as I must get this form filed and taxes paid as well as do many others counting on this being resolved immediately.
AnneMariee, I have updated my Quickbooks software (didn't appear to update anything or download/install any updates as it did not ask me to restart Quickbooks, but I did anyways to be sure) and the issue still exists, has not been fixed, it is not working. I am currently using Quickbooks Enterprise Solutions: Manufacturing and Wholesale 21.0. This really needs to get fixed immediately. I, as well as many others, are counting on your team to get many quarterly and year-end tax related tasks accomplished, and have many deadlines.
Yes Deborgem, this is the error message I'm getting too, that I'm sure all of us are getting. I have not tried to submit with the error. Not sure if anyone has...does it reject it? In other words, can you proceed with the error and Quickbooks will accept it? I have not tried...afraid too create a larger problem.
When you try to submit with error option to efile greyed out and it says to go to virginia tax site.
Gotchya, I didn't go that far to try it.
I just did payroll update and that still did not change anything. Still shows update # 22401. Error message still pops up.
QuickBooks will not allow you to submit the form while it has this error message. However, the program will hold/save the form for submittal later on. Which unfortunately I'm having to do that and go on to my next clients' payroll forms processing. I'll have to come back to each clients' end of year processing later just to get the VEC-FC-20 4th quarter to submit.
Can't afford time waiting on this issue at this point in EOY processing. Thank Heavens the due date for VEC-FC-20 isn't the 15th!!
Probably will take Intuit's programmers 24 hours before they get program to process correctly. This is very, very frustrating.
Having the same issue spent to much time with tech support it's a program issue and they don't understand that.
I just received the following response through online Chat with Payroll Support...
Kathy, thank you for holding. Currently the issue is still being investigated. We are hoping to have the resolution in the next few days. The workaround for now if you need to file form is to file directly through your state agency. I apologize for the inconvenience.
Happening to me to. QB please fix this issue today!!!
Thank you for the update, Kathy. It would be nice if QB would send an email to all payroll customers in Virginia that are effected by this problem. So many of us are spending way too much time trying to figure this out.
