Setting up efile 940, 941, and 944 e-file enrollment

I have followed the steps to set up efile by going to payroll set up and clicking on e-file enrollment. I enter all the information for my company and clicked on send information. I get a pop up error that says quickbooks encountered a problem: object reference not set to an instance of an object. I have looked through multiple trouble shooting sections on quickbooks and followed those steps. I have closed quickbooks and reopened it. I have ensured my software is up to date. Still, no informaiton gets saved on my business information and I continue to get an error. Please help.

Setting up efile 940, 941, and 944 e-file enrollment

Latest payroll version is 04021428, tax table 22008.

If you are at current update then try verify/rebuild

I am having the same issue.  Were you able to rectify the problem and if so, how did you do it?

Let me help you from here, Djbyrd.

The resolutions provided by john-pero can help you fix it. I'll provide you the detailed steps.

First, you'll have to update to the latest payroll version. Here's how:

  1. Click Employees.
  2. Go to Get Payroll Updates.
  3. Ensure the Download Entire Update box is ticked, then click Download Latest Update.

Although, if you've updated already, you can run the verify/rebuild tool. A corrupted file can cause the error. Running the tool can help detect data damage.

Once it's fixed, you can set up your Federal Forms 940, 941, and 944 for e-file. Then, you can start e-filing or submitting the tax forms

If there's anything else that we can do for you, please feel free to leave a comment below.

I NEED TO SET UP E-FILING, HOW DO IT DO IT?

Setting up efile 940, 941, and 944 e-file enrollment

It's my pleasure to help you set up e-filing in QuickBooks, @GRAMBIE.

To start, ensure to sign up for the IRS E-file so you can e-file your Federal Forms 940, 941, and 944.

Once your enrollment is approved, IRS will provide you a 10-digit PIN that you need to enter every time you e-file a Federal Forms in QuickBooks Desktop.

Then, change the filing method of your federal forms to e-file. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Employees menu and then select Payroll Center.
  2. Open the QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Setup, and go to the File Forms tab.
  3. Under Other Activities, click Change Filing Method.
  4. In the QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Setup, choose Continue.
  5. Click on Federal Form 940 from the list of forms, and then select Edit.
  6. In the Filing Method options, select E-file and then Finish.
  7. Verify if the filing method of your Federal Form 940, 941, and 944 is already E-File and select Continue.

For the needed requirements of the IRS e-File Program enrollment and how to enroll, please refer to this reference for the details: Set up your Federal Forms 940, 941, and 944 for e-file in QuickBooks Desktop.

Once everything's settled, you can start e-filing forms in QuickBooks.

Feel at ease to tag my name if you have other concerns. I'll be more than happy to help. Have a wonderful week.

Hello, kashwaka.

I'm here to help you fix the objection error when setting up an e-file in QuickBooks Desktop.

Before we proceed, please ensure that your QuickBooks program is up-to-date to the latest release and has the recent tax table updates. Sometimes missing or incorrect setup for employee's data and information can cause this error in QuickBooks Desktop. Let's run Payroll Checkup to make sure that everything is set up properly. These diagnostic tools in QuickBooks software help identify some missing information and discrepancies.

Here's how:

  1. Create and save a backup first for your data file.
  2. Go to Employees, then select My Payroll Service.
  3. Click Run Payroll Checkup.
  4. Follow the on-screen instruction.
  5. Hit Continue to go through the various steps.

You can open the Payroll Data Review Report if there are discrepancies in your payroll data. For your reference, feel free to check out this article: Run payroll checkup. If the issue persists, I'd suggest reaching out to our QuickBooks Team. They'll be able to do a screen sharing to further investigate and fix it.

Setting up efile 940, 941, and 944 e-file enrollment

Does QuickBooks create my sales tax and withholding, 940, 941, SUI, how do I know if these are set up or does QuickBooks do this for me, if this happens, how do I see and obtain the reports.  How do I know if I set up these filings correctly.

Yes, QuickBooks creates your sales tax and payroll withholdings, deal1tc.

All you need to do is enter the employee's W-4 info and run payroll. QuickBooks will then calculate your payroll liabilities.

For sales tax, you'll want to set up sales tax items. When you create transactions, QuickBooks will calculate your sales tax liabilities.

I'm adding these articles to learn more about the calculations and setups.

If you need further assistance, I'll let you contact our QuickBooks Desktop Live Team. They can do screen sharing and walk you through the process.

Please update me on how things went by commenting below. I'm always right here to provide the information that you need. Take care always and have a wonderful weekend.
