Join nowLet's fix the bank feed issue together, mjdevitomd.
One reason why bank transactions won't download in QuickBooks Desktop is because of the bank system errors. We need to make sure that they doesn't have any maintenance. You'll want to check your bank's website to see if there are notifications or alert.
Also, we can create a dummy account and merge it to the main one. This process resolves errors in downloading your bank transactions. Please refer to this guide about merging accounts.
We have an option to manually import your transactions via web connect (.qbo) files. You can get it from your bank's website. Please check this article if you'll encounter Web Connect import errors.
I'll always be here if you need more assistance about bank feeds. Looking forward to assisting you again.
thanks for the reply alex. but even when i attempt to import via the QBO option, it states 'downloading trasnaction' but then a drop down appears (at top of Internet explorer) stating 'download file,' which I clean on to download - and from that point it just freezes. nothing happens at all.
This was not the case for years of using this option.
Thanks for the response Alex.
However, I have always used the QBO option for downloading my transactions from Chase bank (for many years now). Yet, this year 2020, it does not allow me to utilize that any longer.
When I click on the 'download' with the QBO option, it states 'downloading transactions' then as usual, it asks me to 'download the file' from a dropdown at the top of the internet explorer bar - and I click to do so. Yet, now it just 'freezes' from there, nothing gets downloaded.
it used to just download at that time and all was well.
suggestions? thanks
Good afternoon, @mjdevitomd.
The reason your web browser keeps freeze is that QuickBooks is discontinuing support for Internet Explorer. This is so QuickBooks can continue to support newer versions and use more advanced technology. However, you can import your transactions using the .qbo file by using a different browser, such as Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, etc. Now you can download the transactions and import them into your Desktop account.
Please let me know if this gets you back to business. I'll keep an eye out for your response.
Thanks for your response as well Anna.
I did update to the internet explorer 11; and I already have Chrome and microsoft Edge. However, within quickbooks - I do not seem to be able to find out 'how to open chrome (for example) within the quickbooks, so that when I go to bank feed it will work as you are stating.
Unless you are suggesting that I download transactions OUTSIDE of quickbooks via chrome... I can do so. But then how do I import them into quickbooks from the desktop?
Thank you again.
Marc
Hello again, mjdevitomd. Let me clarify things out about the supported browser in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
Right now, Internet Explorer (IE) is the recommended browser when downloading bank transactions. The option to run QBDT from another browser is currently not available.
The discontinuing support for Internet Explorer and old Safari versions that Anna S mentioned is for QuickBooks Online (QBO).
In the meantime, prepare a web connect (.QBO) file from your bank's website and manually import the transactions so they become available in your Bank Feeds.
To download web connect files, here's what you'll need to do:
Once done, go to the Bank Feeds Center to review your transactions. For additional information on this process, I recommend the following article: Import web connect (.qbo) files.
Just in case, I'll add these articles for future reference:
If you need anything else, leave a comment below. I'm here for you. Have a great day!
This worked flawlessly, thanks!
This is such a backwards way of doing this. This is 2020. Our bank accounts downloaded direct before this REQUIRED 2020 update!
QUICKBOOKS insisted we UPDATE to 2020 and yet it is a step back! WTheck
Let me help you connect your bank, @beishke.
You may need to update your product to get the latest release version. This process is separate from upgrading to the newer edition of QuickBooks Desktop.
Here's how:
Once done, you can connect your account to Bank Feeds again.
Let me add an article that will guide you on how to review your bank transactions: Add and match Bank Feed transactions.
You can keep us updated after trying these steps. We're always around to help.
I have recently updated to Quick Books Premier 2021. When I tried to use Web Connect to download my bank transactions, Quick Books says I don't have a matching account. I have had my bank accounts set up for 9 years. I have no idea why now - after this update - QB won't recognize my bank accounts in my QB files. If I open a new account as prompted by the bank feed process, it opens a new check register with no history of transactions and a $0 balance. That is NOT what I want.
It is not a bank error. It is a QB error. My bank account are there just like they have always been, but QB won't recognize them.
Why is this happening?
Thank you for providing that detailed information, dgbenge.
Let me help you download your bank transactions successfully.
Based on the error message you've provided, we need to make sure your account is active. Here's how to do that.
If your account is active, check the mapping of your import file by following the steps in this link.
You can check out this article to help you fix errors when using the web connect: Fix common Web Connector errors in QuickBooks Desktop
I've also added this article for your future reference: Import and export data in QuickBooks Desktop
Please don't hesitate to let me know if I can be of additional assistance downloading your bank transactions in QuickBooks. Wishing you and your business continued success.
My QB bank accounts ARE active. The accounts still exist and I can pull up the transaction register for them. They just don't show as "available" to accept the bank upload. The QB system just doesn't recognize them for some reason and wants me to open new accounts. I don't want to do that.. This only happened after updating from the 2018 version to the 2021 version a couple of days ago. This has to be related to that update.
Thanks for getting back to us, @dgbenge. Allow me to chime in and share troubleshooting steps, so you can upload bank transactions.
To get started, run the QuickBooks built-in diagnostic and repair tools called to rebuild and verify data utilities. These tools comb through, repair, and notify you of data damage. Here's how:
Go back to your original company file.
Should the Verify find an issue, you will be prompted to Rebuild Now or View Errors. Choose Close, then perform the steps below:
If you haven’t encountered any error message, I recommend updating QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release. This to ensure, your software is up-to-date so you always have the latest features and fixes.
If the issue persists, you may need to deactivate Bank Feeds first for that specific account before uploading the WebConnect file from your bank. Please note that you need to delete or match any pending transactions in your Bank Feeds Center if you get an error message upon performing the process. For additional insight visit this article: Deactivate Bank Feeds for an account.
Also, I'm adding these articles about downloading and fixing banking errors in QuickBooks Desktop that may help:
That should do it. Please let me know how everything goes or if you need anything else. I’m more than happy to help. Have a good one!
That works but now it's several extra steps when before you just had to click on the downloaded file. This is a bug. I work with 6 different clients/banks and any who have upgraded have the same problem. The ones still on 2019 or higher have no problem.
Thanks for getting in touch with the Community about this, shellyjmcd12. I appreciate that you're using the current workaround to import Web Connect files.
I've reviewed our ongoing/solved investigations and can confirm there's currently no records about subscribers reporting that they can't download transactions when using their bank feeds.
Since yourself and your clients are encountering such an issue, I'd recommend getting in touch with our Customer Care team if the troubleshooting steps provided by my colleagues above don't solve it. They'll be able to pull up your account in a secure environment, conduct further research, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.
They can be reached while using QuickBooks:
Be sure to review their support hours so you'll know when agents are available.
Please don't hesitate in sending a reply if there's any questions. Have a wonderful Thursday!
Same issue with me for QBO - no new transactions for days now but I see lots in my online banking. I really dislike Intuits lack of alerts to known problems and M-F only chat support. Wish there was another alternative.
Hi there, MidnightSun.
Thanks for posting your experience here in the Community. Let me help you update your bank account to bring in the transactions to QuickBooks Online.
There are several instances of why you’re unable to receive the latest bank transactions.
Here's how:
This process will restore the bank connection and will trigger updates to your bank transactions.

Utilize the trial version of SlickConnect to isolate the issue. If the same error persists, there is an ongoing problem at your bank.
I would like to jump in here with a similar but different issue.
My version (Desktop Mac 2021) does not have a "bank feed" tab under banking...
When I do attempt to connect my bank, it just sends me in circles.
First it asks me to log into my bank, download a bank statement to my computer and then download that same statement into my QB. Well it basically sends me from one screen telling me to download the statement to the next screen saying that I need to go download the statement. It never lets me attempt to download the statement or offer any easy options like log into your bank and we will grab all necessary info. No help for this on Youtube or anywhere else that I can find. QB wait times over an hour to get help...
