I go through the installation process, appears to install update but I still have 22008. I can not process my payroll because it says I haven't update in 42 days. I've rebooted computer, tried the process several times, same outcome.

I have a similiar issue. My update does say 22009 is installed, but I keep get prompted to update! and to go online before 4/15/20 as I have not updated in 28 days???? Yet I run the update everyday when I get into payroll. What do I do so I do go inactive for "not going online in 28 days" and updating even though I have updated and my update window says I am current?
Let's update your payroll, EMCbooks.
Instead of performing the steps shared by SarahannC, you can manually download the file with updates from your computer and run it. This is called a web-patch update and is used when we're unable to download updates within QuickBooks.
Please feel free to share some updates after following the steps I mentioned.
Hi Jess T and thank you for responding.
However, that patch did not fix my payroll issue.
When I open my employee center to run payroll, I click start scheduled (or unscheduled sometimes) payroll. Every time I start a payroll I immediately get a window popup that says to get updates. So I do. Then I get:
"adding paychecks to items to send area".
Please note we do use direct deposit, it is inactive. I do not have any paychecks to send. And I have not had the opportunity to even enter any checks to print....I cannot get beyond this point.
Once that is completed running, the window says that the update is complete and to check back back online by April 15th. Mt payroll account area says that I have not been online to update in 28 days! And I just was, everyday.
This is quite disturbing. I have already rebuilt data, checked the Edit>Find>Send Status and all the paychecks for the last two years are there, with amounts and check numbers.
Tomorrow is the 15th and I know how this works - my payroll subscription will turn inactive because it is not updating (even though the payroll account area says I have the current update 22009).
This makes me hate QBs and if I was not invested with multiple clients using QBs I would quit.
Hope you can help.

What is the point of Step 1?
You did not state to do anything after navigating to that folder.
Hi there, @daveuserid.
You'll need to delete the folder if you’re getting an error when updating the QuickBooks Desktop. If not, you'll have to proceed with the other steps.
You may visit these articles here to troubleshoot if you're getting the same error.
Also, can you provide a specific concern about the payroll update? This way, we can ensure we got you covered.

I started to the process to install payroll update and I only get so far. I am past the screen where quickbooks ask a question and I don't remember what I needed, I think it is a access code. I got the one via Phone and entered it. What Next??????
Hello there, Houston3.
I’m here to ensure your payroll is up to date. To help me get on the same page, I just need more details about your concern.
What specific screen in QuickBooks do you have to input the access code? When you enter the information, did you encounter any errors? I also appreciate it if you can share a screenshot of the issue. This is to ensure we can provide the best solution.
I’m looking forward to working with you again. Have a good one.
I am having a similar problem with new updates. It keeps directing me to update, which I do, it tells me update is complete, but won't let me work on a tax form because it redirects me to make updates! Very frustrating. No agents are available on weekends.
Thanks for joining this conversation, @jxdjenny. I'm here to provide additional troubleshooting steps to resolve your payroll updates issue.
You can use the QuickBooks Tool Hub and run the Quick Fix my File option to fix the issue. Before performing the steps, I suggest creating a backup copy of your file so you always have the original details you can restore in case of data loss or damage. Once done, refer to these steps below:
You can also visit this article for the detailed steps about resolving company file issues: Fix company file and network issues with QuickBooks File Doctor.
When done, check if you still encounter the payroll update message.
If the same thing happens, I recommend doing a clean install to resolve the issue that keeps you from performing your QBDT tasks.
However, if the issue persists, I suggest contacting our Customer Care team to further investigate the cause of receiving the payroll update message even after updating your payroll tax table.
In QBDT, it's easy to view your employee data and monitor your business finances. You can open any payroll reports that suit your needs. To give you a list of those reports and an overview of what data they show, please head to the Excel-based payroll reports page.
Should you have any other payroll update concerns, feel free to post again here in the Community. I got your back. Take care always.
Thanks, but none of that worked. Other than payroll, quickbooks is working ok. But I really need to get payroll working ASAP!
I do appreciate your time for getting back here, jxdjenny.
Seeing that the troubleshooting steps shared above didn't worked, the best thing to do here is to contact our Payroll Support Team. They have more tools that can help investigate why it keeps asking you to update.
