Standard users not able to use time tracking feature

I turned on and set up time tracking by following this article: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/manage-timesheets/how-to-turn-on-and-set-up-time-t...

My users are set up as standard users (which should enable them to input their time (duration/hours)). But neither can they see the 'Time' tab nor enter time for a particular project. They have turned on time tracking on their account advanced settings as well. It shows currently only master admin can enter time. As per the standard user roles, they should be allowed to add/edit their timesheets which is not the case here. Should I change any further settings? Please help!

Welcome to the Community! Thanks for reaching out for help with getting your team set up to track their time.

 

Based on the information you’ve given, it looks like everything is set up correctly.

 

At this point, I recommend reaching out to our Support team so they can check out the back-end settings. Here’s how:

 

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. Select Help (?) at the top right.
  3. In QB Assistant, enter the topic you need help with. You can also enter questions
  4. Select Contact Us to connect with a live support agent.
  5. Choose a way to connect with us:
    • Start a chat with a support expert available (6 A.M - 6 P.M) Mon-Fri and (6 A.M - 3 P.M) UTC.
    • Ask the community to get help from businesses like yours.

I did speak to your chat team and shared my screen, but they say that timesheets are available for admins and not standard users. To have them enter their time, I need to buy QBO advanced. Please see the chat attached.

I bought QBO plus since it said standard users are allowed to enter time. I would not want to buy the advanced version right now. Please help me resolve this!

Thanks for the update, @MonicaJain.

 

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), you can add a Time Tracker Only user. This user type can only add their own timesheets. Here's how:

 

  1. Navigate to the Settings icon and select Manage Users.
  2. Click Add user and then choose Time tracking only.
  3. Select Next.
  4. Look for the employee or vendor you want to add, click Next, then input their contact info.
  5. When done, click Save.

If in case you'll need to change the Time Tracking Only user, you'll have to delete the user and add them back again with the new user type.

 

Also, to manage what your added users can and cannot do within your company file, you can restrict their access.

I need my users to enter their time, their mileage and also expenses.

That won't be possible if I set them up as "Time tracking user". And "Standard user" setting isn't allowing them to enter their timesheet, it says currently only admin can enter time, which isn't correct, I suppose.

How do I let them enter time, mileage and expenses all three?

I further checked this and I'm here to help you in adding a user.

 

Currently, a user can only access the mileage and time entries if they are admin. Although, Standard users can access and create expense transactions as long as you've given them vendor rights.

 

What you'll want to do is add them as company admins so they can access and enter both time, mileage, and expenses. Here are the articles to guide you in setting them up:

I'm following this because I'm having the same issue. We use QBO Advanced and standard users can't add time. It says "only admins can add or edit time sheets."

Per QBO defined user roles standard users can enter timesheets, see below:

 

Standard User

You can set different levels of access for this user. They can work with customers, sales, vendors, and expenses. These users can enter timesheets, add users, update company info, or manage subscriptions.

FritzF thanks but to clarify your colleague was incorrect. Please look at your company's own definition of a standard user role (see below)

According to this a standard use can enter timesheets, yet when I create a standard user they cannot enter timesheets. This is a software issue I believe.

I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care Support team. They can review why it won't allow them to manage time. They can also raise a ticket for further investigation if necessary.

 

Here's how:

  1. Click the (?) Help icon in the upper right-hand corner of the Dashboard.
  2. Select Talk to a Human.
  3. Enter a short description of your concern and press Enter.
  4. Click I still need a human.
  5. Select Contact Us to connect with our live support.
  6. Choose Get a callback.
