I am in serious trouble with Quickbooks. I was talked into getting the Pro Plus when I called support with a question about my 2020 version. I purchased it and they could not get my old Quickbooks downloaded on it correctly. I spend over 5 hours with online support on this mess talking to people in other countries with roosters crowing in the background.
I would get an error message and it would shut down. They took a file download last week and said it would be fixed in 24-48 hours. It has been well over that. I need to pay payroll taxes and write checks! I have no Quickbooks software at all now because they messed up my 2020 version somehow. HELP!
I got your back, @tbotzon.
Let's work together and get to the bottom of this.
To ensure I can provide you the best fix for this, can you share with me the error message you received on your end? Any additional information can help us narrow things down,
In the meantime, let's download the QuickBooks Tools Hub and run the Quick Fix my Program to isolate and fix the issue. I'll show you how.

Once you've opened your QBDT 2020 and 2022 versions, I recommend creating a backup file of your QBDT 2020 and restoring it to the latest one.
In case you're referring to upgrading your QBDT 2020 to 2022, you'll want to upgrade your company file so you can access it to the new one.
When everything is all set, you can utilize this article for reference in creating checks and filing your payroll taxes:
I'm all ears if you have other follow-up questions about opening your QBDT or filling your payroll taxes. Please feel free to tag me in your reply and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Take care!
The person I just spoke to at QB blamed my backup file. They said to get it fixed fast I need to pay $800 and get "good" tech support for a year. I am so upset. Especially when he told me I actually had support for 2020 but I was lied to and told I did not have support.
Which Support number did you call?
1-800-597-6409- and as a side note 2 Tech support people wanted to sell me Premium because they could not figure it out. Now, this guy is trying to sell me something. We downloaded 2020 again and everything seems to be on there but our last payroll. Could there be a way to manually enter it in so I can stick with the 2020 Quickbooks version and be refunded for 2022 QB?

I am not sure it was a legit number for Support. Make sure not to call any random numbers you can find by googling.

Did you run your last payroll on QBD 2020 or 2022?
I thought that number came from someone on this board that somehow messaged me. My head is spinning with all this. I did not get it by googling. Now I am really scared the guy was on my computer.
We ran the last payroll on 1/5/22 the last tech support person ran backup online and we did a backup but our backup does not have the last payroll which is strange.
When your QBD 2022 opens your file for the first time, it creates a backup file for QBD 2020 automatically. Find the backup file on your machine and restore it on your QBD 2020 to make sure.
We found a backup listed right after payroll but there was no way to open it. It only allowed us to click on the last one done.
Thanks for coming back to the Community, tbotzon.

Our local backup does not have the last payroll but Quickbooks backup may. We've attempted the online backup restore option but after loading to 100% it does not save anything into the selected file.
The QB tech support guy has me download the QuickBooks tool hub and go through the steps you wrote to no avail. The error message pops up after restoring the company file from the backup whether it is from the local backup or from a different online backup.
Thanks for coming back and providing us a screenshot of the error message to better isolate the issue, tbotzon.
These are some of the common causes of Unrecoverable Errors and the codes that may come with it. Before performing any troubleshooting steps, let's make sure we update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release and create a backup of your company file. Then, press Send every time you receive the unrecoverable error. The information gathered from this can help Intuit create patch updates to improve the program.
Once done, we can suppress the Desktop while starting QuickBooks. Here's how:

Thank you all for trying to help. I got my old 2020 working on my own to get by. Now we just were contacted by QB IT person who got our file and they said the old user name and password were causing the problem. So...it is up and running! There are a few vendors that are causing some kind of internal problem too that they are working on. Who would have thought?
