The "non employee compensation" box was removed from the 1099 MISC, and is now being handled with it's own separate form, the 1099 NEC.
My question is; Will my Desktop version of Quickbooks Pro 2016 be able to generate the new forms?
Thank you!

QuickBooks 2021 is now available. Intuit isn't going to update it? Wow.
I have just updated my Quickbooks to the new 2021. Does it still have to be updated with the new 1099-NEC? Also, what if we still need to use 1099-MISC for payment of rent, will we have to separate them or will there be 2 areas for 1099's for each one?
The 1099-NEC is currently unavailable in QuickBooks Desktop, ggill.
Our compliance team is still working closely with the IRS for proper guidance regarding the 1099-NEC form. We'll keep you updated with its availability through email or in-app notifications. All needed tax forms will be available by the end of the year.

So, if I am reading all of this correctly: QuickBooks will support 1099-NEC forms by the end of December. Please confirm! Also, will it be able to be printed on blank perforated paper, or will will we be purchasing the paper forms? Thank you!!!

Will the QB Desktop MAC versions also be updated with the 1099 NEC forms?
Thanks for reaching out to the QuickBooks Community! QuickBooks software updates, including vendor and payroll forms, will be available for all QB products in the 3 most current years.
If you are using QB Mac 2018-2020, you will be able to create 1099’s with the most current IRS forms. After going through the QuickBooks Desktop 1099 Wizard, QuickBooks Desktop will connect to the Tax1099 service and import your contractors and vendor payments applicable to the 1099s. Here is a link with more information about preparing and filing 1099’s: 1099 filing for QuickBooks.

Thank you, I received an email regarding creating new accounts for 1099-NEC payments. I followed the steps, but still did not see where there was an option to do the 1099-NEC. Hope QB gets this fixed.
Hi there, Lisa galvin.
Thank you for stopping by the Community, I'm happy to help. If you're trying to set up and file your 1099 NEC form, you can follow this article. The steps to set up are as follows:
Step 1: Backup your QuickBooks Desktop file:
Before you begin to adjust your QuickBooks Desktop file, create a back up. If you will need to amend prior year forms, you will need to restore this backup to access the forms and data from before 2020. The data for prior years will not show accurately once you map the new boxes on the new forms.
Step 2: Create a 1099 Summary report:
Identify the amounts paid and to which accounts.
Based on your needs to file both the 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC you will need to adjust your Chart of Accounts to ensure accounts are set up specifically for each form.
Step 3: Create a new account:
Add a new account to your Chart of Accounts to track the separate payments.
Step 4: Move the payments to the new account:
You can choose to create a journal entry to move amounts to show in the newly created 1099-NEC accounts or you can edit existing payments to the new accounts.
Add a journal entry
Edit existing contractor payments
Step 5: Create a 1099 Summary report:
Run a 1099 Summary or 1099 Detail report to validate the changes to reflect the correct amounts in each account for both the 1099-NEC and the 1099-MISC.
Once these steps are completed, you are ready to begin filing your 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC forms.
If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to reach out below. Thank you for your time and have a lovely afternoon.
For my QB Desktop 2020, I am only able to "Map" my accounts to the old 1099-Misc box.
Suggestions?
The newly revived 1099-NEC is not yet available in QuickBooks Desktop, Evy1.
I can see that the IRS has just reactivated this form for employers and business owners to report non-employee compensations given to independent contractors.

Is there an update on this? When will the 1099-NEC be available for QuickBooks desktop 2020?
I am wondering the same. I don't want to have to go thru and make new accounts and change everything around. I would be much easier to change the one for payments to attorneys then all of my contractors
At this point when i ran a test run to print 1099 NEC on my QB Desktop Pro 2018 they are not printing in the correct box (#1)

Your blog states 2018 Pro can print the 1099 NEC

I also have an updated (just checked and ran updates even though automatic) Desktop Accountant 2018, and my 1099 previews (run thru the 1099 Wizard) are only for 1099-MISC. Your reply seemed to indicate 1099-NEC printing was now available, but I don't see it. Please advise.

i just installed the latest updates available in desktop premier accountant 2019 & 1099 nec is still not there. It is available in qb desktop prem acct 2020. Does anyone know when it will be available in 2019?
thank you!
Hello there, @dee730.
The latest payroll update (22101) is released on December 17, 2020. It's available for all supported QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) products. With this, the From 1099 NEC should be accessible through your QBDT Premier Accountant 2019 version.
When installing the latest available updates isn't allowing you to access the From 1099 NEC, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care team. They can securely pull up your account, identify the cause why you're unable to get the said payroll form, and guide you with a fix. Here's how:
In the meantime, I'm adding this article to know what's included in payroll update 22101: Latest payroll news and updates. It contains details about the tax table, forms, and e-file and pay improvements.
Additionally, here's an article to further guide you in preparing tax forms for the year 2020 in QBDT Payroll: Year-end checklist for QuickBooks Desktop Payroll. It provides important dates and tasks as you plan your work.

Hello,
It's 12.18.2020, my QB shows there are no new updates so I assume it auto-updated already, but I still see nothing about 1099-NEC in the 1099 wizard, and everything discusses mapping non-employee comp to box 1 on 1099-MISC. We do not use Payroll. When will I see this available?
