QB not allowing banking import to current credit card

Hello All,

I've been importing to a credit card from downloaded bank transactions in the past.  All of a sudden when I select the credit card for the import to download, QB wants me to create a new credit card and won't put the download into my current credit card.  When i enter a new bogus credit card the download takes place.  I deleted all the transactions to that card and tried my regular card again.  I asks me to create a new card.  I also can't now get rid of the bogus card from my list of accounts.  It says it has transactions against it, which it doesn't.  Have verified and rebuilt data but still can't get rid of it and can't import into my current credit card.  Solutions?  Please.  Much appreciated. I need to get this done.

QB not allowing banking import to current credit card

Hello @Susan607,

Sorry to hear that you've been having issues. Discussed with the team, and usually this happens when the credit card has changed somehow (replacement card with new number). Even if that is not the case, these steps may help you solve the problem.

For the account you can’t delete:

1.  Open the Chart of Accounts

2.  Select the account row

3.  Select the Edit button

4.  Select Online Settings

5.  Set the Download transactions to ‘Not enabled’

6.  Save

You should now - hopefully - be able to delete the account.

For the account that you can’t download too:

1.  Open the Chart of Accounts

2.  Select the account row

3.  Select the Edit button

4.  Select Online Settings

5.  Set the Download transactions to ‘Not enabled’

6.  Save

7.  Re-connect the card to online banking

You should now be able to download to that account.

Let's make sure to sort this out so you can add your transactions, Sabin.

There are times that data or program issues can cause certain buttons to not show up or work when working in QuickBooks. Let me share the steps that can resolve common banking and import issues in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac:

First, make sure to download and install maintenance release for QuickBooks. Doing this will fix minor bug issues in the program. Here's how:

  1. Go to the drop-down list in the QuickBooks▼ menu, then select Check for QuickBooks Updates.
  2. Click Install Update and choose Install and Relaunch.
  3. When the update is complete, QuickBooks for Mac automatically opens.

Second, create a test company file and check if the Continue button is clickable. This will help us isolate the issue if it's only happening to the company file you're working or the entire program. Here's how:

  1. Go to File and select New Company.
  2. Create a name for the test file, then Save.
  3. Complete the Create New Company wizard, then select Finish.
  4. Add the account that was experiencing issues to the Chart of Accounts.
  5. Set up Online Banking for that account.

If you're able to import the banking transactions successfully, it's possible that a data issue is causing the Continue button to gray out. In that case, follow these steps on how to fix damaged data in QuickBooks:

  1. Go to the File menu and select Utilities.
  2. Click Rebuild Data, then choose OK to close all windows.
  3. QuickBooks will ask to make a backup before rebuilding your company file, select OK. When the backup's finished, select Show in Finder to locate the backup or select OK if you’re done.
  4. Once the rebuild is completed, click OK.

After that, go back to the company file and check if the Continue button is already clickable. Allow me to share these additional articles for more banking-related references:

Keep me posted if you're able to import and categorize your banking transactions. The Community is always behind your back if you need anything else.

QB not allowing banking import to current credit card

Hello, I am having the same problems of bank feeds to wanting to allow me to import web connect file to a connected credit card with an existing account. It keeps giving the message "QB does not have an online account to handle these transactions" and then tries to force me to set up a new account. The regular "last 90 days" transactions download feed works fine, but I need to import transactions earlier than that. I am working on qb desktop 2022 in windows.

Thank you for visiting the QuickBooks Community again, BB7301. I'll be sharing details on how the WebConnect file works in QuickBooks Desktop. Then, I'll ensure you can import transactions into QBDT without errors.

Before uploading the WebConnect file from your bank, you have to deactivate Bank Feeds first for the specific account. This is to make sure that it allows you to import a web connect file to a connected credit card.

Here's how:

  1. Click the List tab at the top menu bar.
  2. Select Chart of Accounts.
  3. Right-click the account.
  4. Click Edit Account.
  5. Go to the Bank Feed Settings tab.
  6. Select Deactivate all online services.
  7. Select OK.
  8. Click Save & Close.

Then, keep in mind that you need to delete or match any pending transactions in your Bank Feeds Center if you get an error message upon performing the process. For additional insight into deactivating Bank Feeds, you may visit this article: Deactivate Bank Feeds for an account.

Once done, you can now start importing your transactions using Web Connect.

Lastly, you may refer to this article on how you can reconcile your accounts to avoid discrepancies: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Desktop.

Keep me posted on how everything goes or if you're referring to something else in the comment section. I'm always around for further assistance. Take care and have a good one, BB7301.

I am having the same issue, however, all the settings were already as enabled.

Welcome to the thread, @accting101.

I want to ensure you'll be able to import your bank transactions without issues.

There are reasons why you encounter problems when importing bank transactions, like incomplete bank files or incompatible formats. In addition, changes from your bank can also create issues.

If I may ask, did you encounter some error message when you downloaded transactions from your bank? This is for me to check if there's an ongoing issue about this. In the meantime, I recommend following the troubleshooting steps below:

  1. Create a backup of your company file.
  2. Make sure you're using a supported version of QuickBooks Desktop.
  3. If you use Advanced Mode in bank feeds, you may need to sign in to your Intuit Account or switch modes. Import of web connect files (.qbo) requires you to sign in to your Intuit Account within QuickBooks Desktop.

For more details about the process, you can check out this article: Fix Web Connect import errors.

For additional resources, this article provides information on how to review the log files and instructions to fix bank errors: Collect Bank Feeds log files.

Please let me know how things go on your end by adding a comment below. I'm more than happy to help. Keep safe!
