Quickbooks Mac 2009 ~ old school software?

Wow,

Dennis here. I am a sole proprietor since 2000. I've used Quickbooks Mac 2009, purchased on a disk

back when that is how we used to get software ha ha. I've used the Quickbooks Mac 2009 program on

a Mac Pro Tower computer running macOS 10.6.8. Yes, very outdated OS but it ran my necessary softwares,

including QB Mac 2009. Last year I added a 2017 27" iMac, running macOS 10.15.5 Catalina, to the workflow and worked back and forth between the two computers. I just recently replaced the Mac Pro tower with a 2013 27" iMac, running macOS 10.12.6 Sierra, and... surprise, my QuickBooks 2009 will not run on either

macOS. So, I logged into my Intuit account and am pretty confused about how to move forward. I'd like to just download a simple version of QB ( Freelance? ) that will run on both macOS platforms. Where do I begin? If I purchase the 'Freelance' version will that, not only open my QB 2009 business file, but do everything that I am used to in QB 2009?

Thanks.

Dennis

Thanks for reaching out to the Community forum, @drcreative.

The QuickBooks 2009 is a discontinued version of QuickBooks. You may want to upgrade the latest version to continue running your business using our software. You can download a trial version of QuickBooks Desktop if you'd like to try before buying it.

Moreover, to ensure we're on the same page, will you please verify the simple version of QuickBooks Freelance you're referring?

In the meantime, you can check out these articles to know about the requirements before installing your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac:

If you have further questions, let me know by commenting below. I'll be around to help. Have a great day!

Quickbooks Mac 2009 ~ old school software?

Hi @MirriamM ,

Thanks for the input. Which version of Quickbooks for Mac should I use so that both the macOS Catalina and

macOS Sierra will run the software? Will the newer versions of QB~Mac open and/or convert my current company file: Dennis Roliff Photography(QB09) 3.qb2009

I've attached a screen cap of the 'Freelance' product description.

I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you.

Best,

Hello,

That "freelance" is QuickBooks Self-Employed.  It's an online ONLY software that runs in a browser.

You cannot convert your Mac 2009 data to QuickBooks Self-Employed.  QBSE (QuickBooks Self-Employed) is for very simple Schedule-C businesses.

If you are wanting to switch to an online product instead of desktop software, please check SimpleStart, Essentials, Plus or Advanced for the features you would need.

Otherwise use the links provided in the prior post to determine if you should stick with the latest version of QB Desktop for Mac 2020.

@drcreative

Your QB version is too old and you have to convert it to moving forward. Call and ask Intuit Data Service to convert your file. Otherwise, you have to purchase a 3rd party conversion service. You may open the converted file on the trial license of QB 2020 Mac. For 1 user, you can purchase the new license for $300 directly or around $200 thru a partner/reseller.

You can also self migrate to QB Online on the trial license of QB 2020 Mac.

Quickbooks Mac 2009 ~ old school software?

Hi @Fiat Lux - ASIA  ,

Ok, I think I have a handle on this now. There are various versions of QB Desktop Pro for Mac, including the 2019 version, which is downloadable on this site. My question is, if I purchased a QuickBooks Desktop Pro for Mac 2020 at B&H, would that license key be good for the 2019 version which will run on my macOS 10.12.6 Sierra? And would I be able to use that license key for upgrades?

Let me take it from here, Drcreative.

Each software has different licenses. Having said that, the QuickBooks 2020 Mac license will not work on other versions or upgrades.

Also, the software will work on at least macOS 10.14 (Mohave); supported by macOS 10.14 (Mojave). For more information, check this reference about system requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2020 and Enterprise Solutions 20.0.

If there's anything else that we can do for you, please feel free to let us know.

@drcreative

You have to purchase QB 2019 Mac and get the license key of it.

Check our profile and send your email address in a private message to us. We may share a trial license of QB 2019 Mac.

Quickbooks Mac 2009 ~ old school software?

Hi @Kristine Mae ,

Ok. I'm getting closer to a solution now. My question is, where can I purchase QB 2019 Pro for Mac? I want

to get it from a retailer as, from what I've heard, they sell the software ( license key ) at a more cost effective price than getting it directly from Intuit. The QB Pro Mac 2020 at B&H is 199.95 . Is this a perpetual license or will it be an annual fee? Once I am able to purchase the QB 2019 license key ( I can download the software from your website I see ) I only have to register the software with the purchased license key to activate it, is that correct? The only other piece to my puzzle now is to get my QB Pro 2009 Mac company file converted so that the QB Pro 2019 can open it and run it, is that correct? Who can I have do this conversion? Will there be a fee? Once converted, will the new file have the 20 years of financial data for my company?

I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you.

Best,

Dennis

@drcreative

If you have converted your data file to 2016 without any issue, just open your converted file on the trial license 2019 as the next step. I have replied your PM.

Hope it helps.

Can you send a link where I can buy a QB 2019 Mac and get the license key of it? I upgraded to Mac OS to Big Sur and QB desktop for Mac 2016 is no longer compatible.

The link provided defaults to QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2021. Can you provide more direction? I already installed QB 2019 desktop for Mac.

After the installation, you need to update your company file to work in the newer version, @sylvainP17

Here's how:

  1. Open your company file in the newer version.
  2. When QuickBooks prompts you to update or convert the company file, select Upgrade.
  3. If you receive a prompt message, select OK, then check your balances, reports, and accounts to ensure the correct company file is saved.

Then, restore your company files directly to your QuickBooks Desktop 2019 if you've created a backup copy.

Should you encounter any error during the restoration process, check out this article for some troubleshooting steps: Restore Failed, when you try to restore a backup

If you need additional assistance with QuickBooks, please reach out to our Customer Care Team. They have the tools and will help walk you through fixing any QuickBooks issues.

I'm always around here to answer and help you some more if you have additional questions. Take care!

@sylvainP17

Just to clarify your query. Do you need to upgrade your file from QBD 2016 to 2019 prior to opening it on QBD 2021, or else? You don't need to purchase the license of QBD 2019 for doing so. Utilize the trial version of it and you just need to purchase QBD 2021 later. Contact us in private and we may share the trial version of QBD 2019 for Mac.

Thanks for reaching out to the Community forum, @carmen_49.

QuickBooks for Mac 2009 is an old version. With that said, it will only run on a computer that supports its current operating system. Once you upgrade your device, you'll need to make sure that it also meets the minimum requirements to operate the program.

You may want to upgrade it the latest version to continue running your business using our software. You can convert your file to QuickBooks Desktop. Simply contact our Intuit Data Service to change your file.

After converting your files, you can utilize the trial version of QBDT for Windows: How to download a trial of QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise.

In case you want to purchase QuickBooks Mac Plus 2022, you can convert your file again to the Mac version. That way, you can use it on your computer that supports its system requirements.

Moreover, upon installing, you can check this article for guidance: Install and set up QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.
