I have details to share why the status are still Submitted to Intuit, ucceldon.
Every year, the IRS has a maintenance period during which certain types of returns are not accepted electronically. Accepting of electronic filing will be back online early this month.
This is the reason why the status still says Submitted to Intuit. We will definitely send you an email as soon as the return is accepted by the IRS.
You can also reach out to the IRS E-File Help desk for more information about the maintenance. Their contact details are provided in the lower part of this article: Handle Payroll E-file and E-pay Rejections.

As I posted in response to another thread, I found this information yesterday by completing a google search. My question now, why couldn’t customer support just tell us all this when we called in?? Or send an alert to users of payroll services? This could have alleviated a lot of confusion and stress for business owners. I checked this morning and yes, e-filing was down for maintenance and scheduled to reopen yesterday. It is processed as of this morning.
Mine still hasn't processed for my three different companies and my original filing date was 1/3/22
Hi, BonnieW.
I'd like to check this for you and get it taken care of myself. However, my access to the tools required to do this is limited and I won't be able to check your account without asking for sensitive information.
I'd recommend reaching out to our QuickBooks Support to have this investigated. All account and payroll forms-related concerns need to be directed to our phone support for security purposes.
Unlike in this public forum, they have the tools required to perform any escalations or bypass the system whenever necessary on your behalf.
To ensure we address your concern on time, check out our support hours. Here's how to get in touch or chat with us:
Additionally, you might want to visit the following resources. These will provide you with steps on how to check filing status as well as handling duplicate filing:

Please get back to me if there's anything you need. I'll be more than willing to lend you a hand.
did you get a resolution? Did the tax payment (941) go through? I am having the same problem. QBO shows it is processed but payment has not cleared my bank account or does not shoe up in EFTPS
Welcome to this thread, Angelagb.
I can see the urgency of getting your payroll tax forms and payments concerns resolved in no time. This will prevent having any issues with the IRS. Let me share some details on how QuickBooks Online (QBO) Payroll handles your tax payments.
When paying your federal taxes, the IRS will directly debit your bank account on the payment date. Let’s make sure to have the funds available by the end of the previous banking day.
Since the tax payment didn't show up in EFTPS (Electronic Federal Tax Payment System ), I recommend contacting our Payroll Support Team for further assistance. One of our specialists will collect personal data to access your account.
After verifying the information, they’ll review the transaction and explain in detail why it hasn’t cleared your bank account. Then guide you through the steps on how to get the payment posted in your EFTPS account.
For more details, you can browse this article: Check e-file and e-pay status in Online Payroll. It contains instructions on how to check your e-filing and payment status. You’ll also learn what each status term means.
This reference will guide you on how to resolve rejected e-filed tax forms and tax payments. For online users, click the QuickBooks Online Payroll link to view the complete information.
Stay in touch if you have other payroll tax forms or payments concerns. I’ll be right here ready to assist further. Have a good one and stay safe.
Well, this thread appears to be related to issues with efiling the 2021 940 & 940 in January of 2022, but I am having the same issues now with the 2022 940 & 941 filed on January 5 2023. Based on the conclusions above, I am guessing my issues are also related to the IRS being down for maintenance, so i will give it a few more days. If this is the case, I will echo an earlier responder and ask WHY DOESN'T INTUIT TELL ITS USERS THIS IS OCCURRING SO WE DON'T WASTE OUR TIME AND YOUR TIME? OR AT LEAST ADVISE YOUR SUPPORT TEAM SO THEY CAN ANSWER THE QUESTIONS PROMPTLY?
Knowing the status of the filed federal forms is important to you and your business, PeteH. That's why, I want to make sure you'll receive updates about it.
After checking here, there isn't an open case or an issue reported to our Payroll Team about the status. However, once it shows "Submitted to Intuit", we're preparing the forms and submit them by batch to the IRS. Forms and payments should be accepted before the due date.
I'm adding again this article: Check e-file and e-pay status in Online Payroll. It contains instructions on how to check your e-filing and payment status.
If you want to confirm the status, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Payroll Team. They'll pull up your account and provide an update for you.
I hope this wouldn't stop you from doing business with us. Let me know if you have more payroll concerns by commenting below. I'm always around to help you.
Same issue here. I submitted 941 and W-2 in QB desktop on 1/3/23. The W-2's were received and accepted by SSA, but I did not receive an email regarding the 941. Normally I get it same day. I called the help desk yesterday, the 9th. The support agent informed me that there was an issue and he cancelled my submitted 941 and while on the phone I completed the form again and submitted. It still has not been processed. . I would like to know when I can expect it to process.
I'm dealing with the same issue. I submitted my 941 on Jan 5th and my 940 today. Nothing is happening! I find it interesting that they can always take my money but I can't get the forms filed....
Thank you for visiting the QuickBooks Community, BastropPRC. I'll be sharing details on how submitting 941 in QuickBooks Desktop works. Then, pointed you to the right person to assist you further on this matter.
When you submit the 941 forms in QBDT, Intuit will be checking on this to make sure that the details being entered is correct. That said, we are unable to provide a specific time frame as to when the 941 will successfully process. However, you have the option to check the status of the submitted form from time to time in your QuickBooks payroll.
Here's how:
Then, I suggest contacting our QuickBooks Support again if the issue continues to occur. They have the tools to pull up your account in a secure environment and provide updated details. They can also help you with the troubleshooting steps that need to perform to fix the problem.
Lastly, you can refer to this article to view steps on how you can run a specific report that gives you the total payroll wages, taxes, deductions, and contributions: Create a payroll summary report in QuickBooks.
I'm just a post away if you need a hand with processing your payroll forms. Just leave a comment below and I'll get back to you, BastropPRC. Take care always.
MaryLandT & ChristieAnn:
Thank you for your responses. I have done everything you suggested and I KNOW the status of the filings - the status is "Sent to Intuit for Processing 01/05/2023 10:21 AM PST". What I do not know, and what no one customer support can tell me, is why, 5 days later, Intuit has not sent them on to the IRS! In prior periods, they have always been sent to the IRS within 5 or 10 minutes of Intuit receiving them, and accepted by the IRS a couple minutes after that.
IS THE IRS E-FILE SYSTEM DOWN FOR MAINTENANCE?
Thanks for reiterating your concern, Pete.
It's hard to tell the reason why your form wasn't sent as early as before without looking at your account. I would recommend checking this with our QB Desktop Payroll support. They have the tools to check what happened to your subscription, and in this way, they can put a note on your account regarding this matter.
If you have other questions in mind, feel free to go back to this thread.
JessT:
I believe I noted in my earlier posts that I HAVE contacted QB Desktop Payroll Support, and they looked at my account and could not tell me why the forms had not been sent to the IRS.
I will ask again, is it because the IRS is down for maintenance?
See this link. I’m not sure, but if this is the place the filings through qb goes to, it looks like the IRS is not accepting business filings until Jan 12.

Hi there, PeteH.
Allow me to join the conversation and share some information about the e-file services.
I understand how time-consuming it is when something isn’t working the way you need it. I've checked here on my end and found that the status of e-filing to the IRS is not operational. Our engineers are working diligently to fix this as soon as possible. Once fixed, Intuit will submit the forms you've submitted from QuickBooks.
For more information regarding MeF, please see the Modernized e-File (MeF) Program Information on IRS.gov.
I have resources here that help guide you in filing federal and state payroll taxes successfully in QuickBooks. Visit them each for further information: Check the e-file or e-pay status
Let me know if there’s anything else you need help with in filing your taxes, I’ll be around to help and assist you. Keep safe.
LeizylM:
Great! That is all I was trying to find out. They are not due until 1/31, and I'm sure you will have it fixed by then.
Wasn't sure if that included payroll returns or just income tax returns, but that is probably the issue.
Thanks!
I completely agree with you. I have 3 pages of communication regarding this topic with customer service and I going back and forth. Instead of addressing my concern, they / he was more interested in trying to up-sell my QB's. And, then he never told me what was going on, other than they were aware of the issue. Talking about getting me stressed out.
Thanks,
Nancy
Agreed. I have been very stressed about it. All the payroll specialist need to be informed ASAP when there is an issue so that they can have an answer for their clients. Better yet, they need to put an alert in the system to inform the clients. That would avoid upset clients. I also use desktop and prefer it over the online version. I don’t like that we have to update every year. It’s expensive. We are a small non-profit and those costs add up.
FYI-our 1099’s were accepted by the IRS yesterday. So, they must be accepting forms. Hopefully QB will get the system up and running soon.
Kathy
I am having the same issue. I am glad that I am not the only one that is having the issue. Maybe QB should have sent out an email that the IRS would not be accepting any forms until 1-12-23. I filed my 941 & 940 on the 6th and have been trying to figure out what in the world I did wrong. I am hoping that when things are opened up tomorrow all these forms aren't rejected. Got to love tax season
Any updates here? It appears the IRS E File system opened for production yesterday (1/12/23). It is now 1/13/23 and as of this morning, my 940 and 941 are still sitting in "Submitted to Intuit" status. Anyone have their go through to the coveted "Accepted by Agency" status yet?
Yes! Our 941 was "Agency Accepted" last night (1/12/23) at 9:54 pm. They are probably working in batches. Hopefully all will go through soon.
