In December 2020, I bought a one-year license to Quickbooks Windows desktop. What happens this December when my subscription expires; will I simply be "locked out" until I renew my license or will I simply be unable to receive updates?
Solved! Go to Solution.
I'd be glad to provide you some idea of what will happen to your QuickBooks Desktop if you don't renew your subscription, @TheProuddad.
You can still access the file even if you'll not restore your subscription. But you'll be unable to continue receiving the security updates and online services, such as the following:
It only means that you can only use the software for manual tracking and keeping your company data. Here's an article you can read for more insights: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy and upgrade information.
In addition, you can check out this resource that provides detailed information about QuickBooks Desktop cancelation policies: QuickBooks Desktop cancelation policies.
Keep me posted by leaving a reply to this thread if you have more questions or concerns about managing your subscription. I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Stay safe and take care.

Login to your CAMPS and check your license information. Had you purchased QB Desktop 2021 Pro/Premier Plus edition, system will auto renew your license and charges your credit card. You may purchase a one time license of QB Desktop 2021 or 2022 without credit card later.
Thanks for your response. I was advised by a QB partner that I would be unable to purchase a one-pay license after the date of release of the 2022 version of Quickbooks Desktop. So after hearing answers that conflict with each other from two experts, I'm more in the dark than when I asked the question.
Thanks for your prompt reply, TheProuddad.
Let me shed some light on this situation.
Once your subscription period ends, you will no longer be able to use or access your QuickBooks Desktop account. Your company file will remain on the device, but you'll need to re-activate the service, so you can open or view the data.
If in case you will not be renewing the subscription, you can purchase a single QuickBooks Pro license instead. This license is locally-installed and supports a single user.
I also recommend reaching out to our Sales Support Team for further assistance regarding your billing concerns. They can provide details on what you need to do after your subscription expires.
I'll re-share these article provided above for future reference:

You can purchase the one time license of QBD Pro/Premier on Amazon. You can also purchase it thru a partner/reseller by a bank transfer if required. Contact us in private if you need help.
I appreciate your thorough answer, @RenjolynC. I actually do NOT want to get rid of Quickbooks Desktop. I'm trying to to purchase a single-pay subscription to last until May 2024 that will (if possible) coordinate with my current annual-pay subscription. It's my understanding that the price of a one-pay will jump when the 2022 version of QB is released next month, so I want to make a move before that time.
Is there someone I can speak with that will advise me how to do this?
Joining the thread to help with your question about getting a new QuickBooks license, TheProuddad.
A stand-alone license, which is good for 3 years, is different from what you currently have. Because of this, we're unable to coordinate or sync it with your subscripion-based QuickBooks Desktop account. Although, your company file can be easily transferred or move between licenses since they are on the same platform.

Any reference? They have increased the price of QBD 2021. I am not sure they will increase the price of QBD 2022. Where is your location? If you are located in the US, you may purchase a one time license of QBD 2021 on Amazon as I mentioned earlier. Otherwise, you can purchase it thru a partner/reseller and you can pay it with a bank transfer.
Uh, I was told by Quickbook's support that should I not renew my subscription, I will not be able to access QB's at all. That it will not open for me.
If you are using QBD 2021 Pro/Premier Plus, you can still purchase a one time license of QBD 2021 Pro/Premier and cancel your Plus subscription.
I am using QBD 2021 Pro. I could not locate this product on Amazon. What I was seeing is subscription products and they were mostly 2022. FYI, customer service reps for Quickbooks are strong arming clients into paying for subscriptions. They do not offer resolution for those of us not wanting or needing the subscription.
i am using QBD 2021 Pro however, can not locate copy of one time license of QBD 2021 Pro/Premier. All I have so far seen are for subscription platforms. FYI, Intuit customer service is strong arming clients into purchasing subscriptions and making statements that are not entirely true.
You can still purchase a one time license of QB Desktop 2020 or 2021. Contact us in private for assistance.
I bought a new program (Desktop ProPlus 2021) and started using it on Jan. 1, 2021, 11-months ago. Quickbooks has locked me out of my business account. I owe nothing, but cannot look at my bank register, print invoices, access account information, customer phone numbers, etc.. Nothing! Don't believe them that you can still access your info. And my "subscription" doesn't expire for 3 more weeks. I don't use any of their programming. Just a very simple program which I've used for many years without any support. Apparently that's the problem. I assume if I purchase Microsoft Office I can use their programs for the cost of purchasing it. But now Quickbooks not only charges me the program, but robs me of my personal files. That seems illegal to me.
Check your CAMPS and make sure when your license expiration date is. You can utilize the trial license for QBD 2021 for the time being prior to purchasing a new one time license for it later.
Those answers are incorrect. I don't use any subscription services. Besides I still have 3 weeks on my program. Quickbooks basically hijacked all of my company files and locked me out of everything. It's not a matter of using the program without payroll, or back-up,e tc. It's that they have set the program to self-destruct when they determine it's time, not when you have documented start dates of hte program (listed in properties). I bought a new program from a retail store, but now Quickbooks won't recognize the license or product number. They only want companies to purchase from them at a much higher cost. I've spent over 2 1/2 hours with customer service, and only have some of the problem resolved at this point. I've used Quickbooks for about 15 years now but may have to switch programs.
Our QuickBooks license is been expired, But I even cant open my Company file to use it for manual tracking some Financial Reports. Now, what should we do?
Thanks for joining this thread, @Rahmani. Let me help you get past the error message and open your company file.
If a prompt shows that your QuickBooks Desktop subscription has lapsed or expired, we can update your billing info in your Customer Account Management (CAMPs) portal.
Here's how:
If the issue persists, Install the latest update for your version of QuickBooks Desktop. This often fixes subscription errors and ensures you have the latest features and fixes. You can also review this article for more insights: Fix subscription has lapsed error.
Once done, open your company file and manually track some financial reports. It also includes links on how to customize any report that you generate.
Keep me posted if you have other questions about managing your company file in QuickBooks. I'll be happy to lend a helping hand. Stay safe and have a good New Year!
Are you able to login to your CAMPS? You have to make sure your payment method is valid to renew the license. If you were using QBD 2021, you can utilize the trial version of it to open your file immediately and have more time to decide whether purchasing a new one time license of QBD 2021 or renew your existing subscription.
NOT TRUE!
Mine ran out and now I can't open my company file. I called QB. Only was to open my records is buy a new copy and reinstall. They are holding me hostage! Sucks
You can utilize the trial version for QBD 2021 to open your file.
Its worse than that, the new versions don't support 32 bit Windows which is where my accounting lives so I'll have to upgrade my computer. That's gratitude for you, 25 years of buying their software and they hold me hostage now!
Cancel your QBD Plus renewal and ask for the refund. Buy a new one time license for QBD 2021 to run on your machine.
