This is with QuickBooks desktop? (Seems like online as desktop doesn't sessions that time out.)
RE: "Currently, we have an ongoing investigation (INV- 58366) about this error message when logging in to Payroll Tax Center"
What does that mean? I've used QuickBooks payroll for 20 years and never "logged into" the payroll tax center.
Hello there, @BigRedConsulting.
Let me help you understand what the ongoing investigation is all about.
The investigation (INV- 58366) is only applicable to the QuickBooks Desktop Assisted Payroll account. For you to view W-2 forms, you'll have to log in to your account and enter your Payroll Pin.
Here's how you can do it:
For more details, please review this article: Does QuickBooks file and deliver my W-2s?.

I am experiencing the same issue, cannot access my W-2 forms
This isn't the kind of experience that we want you to come across, STUWIL.
As of now, we are still looking for the root cause on why you're unable to access the W-2 forms. That said, I'd recommend reaching out to our Phone Support so you'll be added as one of the affected users.
You can follow the steps shared by LieraMarie_A to get in touch with one of our phone agents.
Feel free to browse these references for the detailed information about the said forms:
Once this issue is resolved, either my colleagues or I will update this conversation. You take care!
This did not work for me. Trying to change Print Option - the loggin into the Payroll Tax Center - or trying to change the print option in the Tax Center generated the same Session expired error.
I am having the same problem -- "your session has expired due to 30 minutes of inactivity". and I can't print W2 forms. Is there a resolution? I see others have posted same problem, weeks ago.
This issue is still not resolved. Is there any idea when the QB technicians might get this issue fixed? It's been going on for months.
We want this fixed as much as you do, ElenaMiller. I'll share some information.
As of now, our engineers are still investigating the cause of the issue. Rest assured, though, that they're doing their best to come up with a fix as soon as possible.
While we're waiting for a resolution, I suggest reaching out to our payroll support. We're taking notes of the affected users. You can follow LieraMarie_A's steps so you can get in touch with us.
Once it's fixed, you can prepare and print the W-2 forms without issues.
We're around if you have other payroll concerns. Feel free to visit the Community any time. Take care!

I apologize as I do not mean to be rude but at this time, looking back to how long the first report on this issue was posted and we are still all about "engineers working on it" that is kind of unacceptable considering the widespread of the issue and how critical this particular function is in the entire application itself.
Whatever engineer(s) working on this should get this fixed asap and you guys need to get it together and be fair on what exactly is going on here.
It is clearly ridiculous that a fix is still yet to be found after how many weeks? As MSP we have a whole bunch of customer-based with related issue and this is just not good enough

We are currently using Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2020 with assisted payroll and are unable to print or view W-2's.
We have changed the print function to self print and this is still not working. Select I'm printing W-2s for my records, select continue, the printing instructions screen appears and then select continue. The final screen is blank with the buttons continue and cancel, when chosen nothing happens.
Thanks for becoming part of the Community, GMBJ. I appreciate you performing some of our recommended workarounds.
Since you're still unable to view or print, I'd recommend getting in touch with our Customer Care team and referencing INV-58366. They'll be able to pull up your account in a secure environment, conduct further research, and add you to our list of affected users. This ensures you'll receive email notifications about any updates relating to the investigation.
They can be reached while you're using QuickBooks.
Here's how:
Be sure to review their support hours so you'll know when agents are available.
Please feel welcome to send a reply if there's any questions. Enjoy the rest of your day!
i am having the same issue with the payroll tax center, using QB pro 2021 with assisted payroll. i have gone through the entire list of comments and see that this started months ago, as it did for me. this worked for years and now all of a sudden, it doesn't work and your "engineers" haven't been able to fix it. it is obviously a programming issue within the Payroll tax center and the connection between it and the desktop. Intuit could have been more proactive and notified anyone using the Tax Center, that there is an issue with W-2's. when i connect to upload the payroll, everything works fine. instead of an "engineer", maybe you need a programmer who can read the code and figure out the problem. logically, i would start by finding the code sequences that generate the error message, and then analyze each one until i found the one causing the problem. there cant be that many sequences that would generate that specific error, when trying to do one such function (W-2's). instead of upgrading to the next QB version, i may just go to Peachtree. this is just unacceptable business on your part, to take this long to resolve an issue.
I have been having the same issue and frustration is growing since it is almost September and there is no resolution! Please provide a status update immediately.
Same issue here and it's almost September. As others have noted, it is unacceptable to be waiting for a resolution for this excessive time period! Please provide a status update that we can all see.

I am continuing to have this issue of not being able to print W-2s from previous years and receiving the time out error mentioned here. Please resolve ASAP. How do we update for this to be fixed?
Hello there, @BB1900. I appreciate you joining here.
For now, our engineers are still working on resolving this and we're not given any time frame when it will be sorted out. Still, I recommend contacting our specialist to add your company details as one of the affected users. You can follow the steps shared by my colleague and provide the investigation number to our specialist. INV-58366
Within your QuickBooks Company file, select QuickBooks Desktop Help from the Help menu. You can also press F1 on your keyboard to bring up the same Help panel. Give a brief description of your issue and click Continue.

Got the same message today 9/15 Saw the info that the techs are working on the issue....that was on June 20th
What is the status of this issue? It has been over 3 months and still not resolved. This is something that needs to be corrected in order to provide W2's to employees as requested. They do not accept the fact that there is a problem with the system and I don't feel they should have to. This is a part of a service we pay for and the forms should be able to be accessed.
By the way, the first time I called about the issue, the agent was able to talk me through an "work around" and we were able to access w2 for employee. Unfortunately, I did not write down the steps because I thought and it was communicated to me that it was a temporary issue and was being resolved. The last time I called when still having the issue, the agent was unable to find the "work around".
Thanks for joining this thread, @hcopeland.

As I've checked, the investigation is still in progress, and our product engineers are still working to fix this error as quickly as possible. I am getting the same message when I try to print previous year's W-2s. And whenever I try to get help from Intuit by clicking on the "Help" tab, my QBs screen freezes up. What is going on? How can I speak to a live person? I am also having trouble with my employee reports for the 2nd round of PPP loan forgiveness.
I'm here to help share information about printing your employee's W2, @AmyB24.
Currently, we have an ongoing issue where customers, like you, are unable to print a copy of W2 for an employee. Rest assured that we've already informed our engineering team and they're in all hands working to fix this as soon as possible.
Why the workaround is not yet available, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care Support. One of our specialists online can add your name on file to the list of affected users to receive all future updates. I'll show you how.
